keep you company more often.”

“You look so frail. Your skin is ashen, like you’ve been devoid of sunlight for too long. Where’s Rhea? I

need to give her a piece of my mind. Her actions are so disturbing, they’re starting to frighten me.”

“Rhea’s too ashamed to face you now that her plans have been uncovered,” Shera remarked, believing

Rhea had no right to step out of the damp, dark place she was hiding.

“Has Marcus been told of your return?” Celeste inquired, her eyes still filled with the hopeful notion that

Shera and Marcus were meant for each other.

“I did see him Last night. I won’t lie, over the past five years, the thought of ending it all crossed my

mind more times than I care to admit. But the possibility of seeing Marcus again kept me going.

It was my lifeline. But… when I finally returned, I learned he’s married.”

Shera’s voice broke as she spoke, her eyes cast downward.

Celeste felt a mixture of sadness and guilt. Had she not been so eager to find Marcus a wife, maybe

Shera would’ve returned to a different life.
