Chapter 244
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
Millie took her grandmother's hand and gently slipped on the bracelet. As the bracelet adorned Grandmaâs wrist, Millieâs heart
swelled with emotion.
She sat with her grandmother a while longer. Once Grandma fell asleep, Millie quietly left.
After stepping out a few paces, Millie noticed the silhouette of Marcus. She rubbed her eyes, thinking she had mistaken him, but
confirmed it was indeed Marcus upon a closer look.
Millie caught up with him and inquired, âYou're still here?â
Marcus glanced at the Directorâs office adjacent to him.
âYes, Iran into an acquaintance and had a chat with him.â
Marcusâ gaze fell upon Millieâs uniform, which hugged her figure perfectly.
Why did she go to waitressing?
Acrease formed between Marcusâ eyebrows as he reached for a bank card and presented it to Millie.
âTake this,â he offered.
Hesitantly, Millie took the petite card loaded with enormous value.
With a puzzled expression, Millie examined the card. This situation seemed oddly familiar.
âEach month, I'll transfer a million dollars into this account. You can spend it on whatever you fancy and leave your job,â Marcus
said with stern sincerity.
â| canât accept this card; | donât need it,â Millie responded resolutely upon hearing that.
âAre you certain? If you donât require money, then why are you waitressing? | canât stand the thought of my wife catering to
others,â Marcus said. A dark cloud formed over his face.
Millie clenched her teeth, detecting the distaste resonating in Marcusâ voice. His pride was evidently wounded because she was
working as a waitress.
âEven if you slaved away there for a month, you wouldnât make ten thousand dollars. Stop being obstinate.â
Marcusâ gaze deepened. Millie's financial burdens were immense, with the monthly medical bills for her grandmother constituting
a substantial chunk. Despite her diligent efforts, making ends meet was an uphill battle.
âRegardless of your opinion of me, | cannot accept your money. If | need money, | can earn it on my own. Please donât scorn my
profession. Thereâs nothing disgraceful about being a waitress. Iâm not engaging in any illegal activity.â Millie was reminded of a
previous incident when Marcus attempted to offer her a bank card while she was patching her dress.
Moreover, the waitstaff at the Skyline Restaurant were required to have a bachelorâs degree and proficiency in foreign
languages.
Just the previous night, Celeste had ridiculed her impoverished background, hurling brutal words. After enduring that, Millie was
resolute in her decision not to accept Marcusâ money.
If Celeste discovered this, she would be the object of further mockery.
