Chapter 66
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
Chapter: 66
Maintaining her composure, Celeste added, âShe canât attend the party no matter what, Marcus. You know very well that not only
members of the Thomas family but also influential members of the business and political communities will be there. If she shows
up, it'll look like weâve accepted her into the family.â
Marcus leaned back on the sofa and lowered his head. He then said carefully, âThe public is already aware that we got married.
Why does it matter whether she attends the party or not?â
The thought of their marriage being made public cast a gloom over Celesteâs features. She nearly passed out from fury when
she learned of the details.
Whoever leaked that information definitely wanted to ruin her sonâs reputation.
âThatâs not the same. Your marriage was leaked by someone who had ill intentions toward you. I'll never accept that woman as
my daughter-in-law, but everyone will think otherwise if she shows up at the party,â Celeste stated.
Marcus's jaw grew tense, but he remained silent.
âThereâs no common thread connecting your life with hers. You two will never be together for the rest of your lives. Sheâs just an
obstacle that you must overcome.
Anyway, thatâs all | want to say. The decision is still yours to make.â
With that, Celeste got to her feet and stared at her son for a moment, wondering what was on his mind. She then straightened
her shawl and retreated to her room.
Marcus looked up at the second floor, where the bedroom he shared with Millie was located. There was light coming through its
open door.
He drummed his fingers on his knees as Celesteâs words echoed in his mind.
In the bedroom, Millie was wearing a smile on her face as she picked out a necklace to go with her dress for the party. She felt a
surge of joy at the prospect of seeing Leon the next day, and she also felt renewed optimism about her grandmotherâs health.
Suddenly, she heard Marcusâs authoritative voice from behind her.
âDonât waste your time getting ready; you won't be going to the party tomorrow.â
The necklace fell from Millieâs grasp. She felt like someone had dumped a bucket of cold water on her head.
She spun around, her face going from white to red with wrath. What Marcus had said had completely derailed her plans. She
could not accept this. She had to attend the party. It was her one and only chance to meet Leon in person.
âWhy? Iâm her granddaughter-in-law. | should be there to celebrate her birthday,â
Millie reasoned.
Marcus unbuttoned his cuff and shot her a cold look.
âHer granddaughter-in-law? Do | need to remind you how you got that identity? You wouldnât be here now if you didnât trick me
into marrying you.â
Millieâs breath hitched. It was true that Marcus had been deceived by her and her family, but she had never wanted to marry him.
She would have never agreed to it if her grandmother had not needed a surgery.
âIn any case, itâs a joyous occasion, so | need to be there. It'll be rude to your grandmother if | donât attend her birthday party,â
Millie continued to reason.
