Chapter 695
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
No sooner had she returned and pulled out her sketch than a knock sounded at the door. Millieâs heart
leaped as she jumped to her feet, her mind rushing to the thought that it might be Marcus, which filled
her with excitement.
When she opened the door, however, she found Leon there, one hand casually resting in his pocket.
Leon could see the shock in her eyes.
âDo you hate seeing me that much?â he inquired, his voice tinged with curiosity.
He had just left Fionaâs room, telling her he had something to attend to. Yet, as he walked toward the
stairs, he found himself looking back at Millieâs door. The faint light visible through the narrow gap in the
frame drew him, and he found himself knocking.
The memory of Millieâs angry expression that momning lingered in his mind.
Millie displayed indifference, her memory of Leon pinching her chin earlier in the day still fresh.
âWhatâs the matter?â
Leonâs expression darkened. He had received news of Marcusâ injury and found the room empty. It
seemed Marcus had gone elsewhere to recover.
âLetâs step inside and talk. Remember, I once operated on your grandmother.â
He found it odd that Millie hadnât tended to the injured Marcus. Werenât their feelings quite strong?
Mentioning her grandmother lessened Millieâs animosity towards Leon, prompting her to step aside and
allow him to enter.
âYouâre alone at home. Why didnât you accompany your husband?â
Leon scanned the neat and orderly room before looking back at Millie.
Millie pursed her lips.
âHeâs away on a business trip. Why should I go with him?â
She even suspected whether Leon was aware that Marcus wasnât on a business trip and had come to
mock her deliberately.
âHeâs away on a business trip?â
Leon was taken aback. Despite Marcusâ injury, he managed to embark on a business trip.
Millie sensed Leonâs astonishment. Did Leon really know that Marcus wasnât on a business trip but
rather with Rhea?
âWould you like to watch some TV? I can turn it on.â
Millie sought to redirect the conversation that made her uncomfortable.
