Chapter 741
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
âI didnât do anything,â Fiona stammered, acting all innocent. âPerhaps Millie said something against me
to him, and thatâs what set him off.â
Leonâs eyes narrowed, his voice laced with skepticism. âDo you really believe that?â
Even as Fiona proclaimed her innocence, Leon couldnât shake a feeling of irony. It was implausible that
mere words from Millie could provoke Marcus into such fury.
Fiona averted her gaze, her head lowered, unable to meet Leonâs eyes.
âI think so. Whatâs wrong? Are you doubting me? Iâm Aisha. Iâm even squeamish about killing an ant. I
would never harm Millie.â
Yes, she might be Aisha, but she had changed. She had become so inscrutable, so unlike the person
he once knew.
âIâm sure youâre rattled. Just try to get some sleep,â Leon said, his voice tinged with a mixture of
concern and frustration.
Fiona was hurt by his reaction, but her mind was consumed with concern for Giovanniâs situation. She
obediently lay down in bed and closed her eyes.
Leon switched off the light and left the room, his mind awash with uncertainty.
Outside the door, his assistant was waiting for him.
âHave you found out anything?â Leon inquired, his voice taut with anticipation.
âYes, Iâve discovered that Fiona met with a man named Giovanni,â the assistant answered, handing
over a file.
Leon quickly scanned the information. Giovanniâs personal details were all there, but the documents
offered no clear insight into the nature of his relationship with Fiona.
Leonâs mind was awhirl with questions about the connection between Fiona and Giovanni. Why had
they chosen to meet in such a secluded alley?
âMvestigate the nature of Fionaâs relationship with this man. I want a detailed report,â Leon
commanded.
âBoss, brace yourself if the findings are unsettling,â the assistant cautioned, looking up at Leon. He
knew that the discovery of Fionaâs wrongdoings would be a harsh blow to his boss.
What Marcus had done to Fiona was an indirect testament to her questionable character.
âBoss, women can be unpredictable. You two have been apart for years. Itâs possible she has
transformed from a good person to a bad one,â the assistant answered.
This frivolous and greedy woman couldnât hold a candle to Lois, yet Leon treated her with an affection
that seemed a thousand, if not ten thousand times more profound than what he offered to Lois. The
assistantâs heart ached with sympathy for Lois.
âProceed with the investigation into Fionaâs connection with this man,â Leon instructed.
He sat on a nearby chair, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on him.
Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Fiona cautiously got out of bed and moved to the bathroom with her mobile
phone in hand. She dialed Giovanni, but there was no response.
