[Chapter 26 - The Mute Alpha]

The words written were hard to read as everything shifted around me. My focus became blurry as unshed tears welled up in my eyes. My legs gave out beneath me as I fell to my knees, the gravel digging into my pants. He was threatened and, without a doubt, in danger. For all I knew, I wouldn't see him again.
My stomach tightened as I hugged my own body. I felt paralyzed, my body unable to move. I wanted to cry, to scream out, but the sobs were lodged in my throat. All I could do was stare at the letter in fear. Fear of losing my mate.
Kian placed a hand on my shoulder and squatted beside me. "I'm sure he's fine," he attempted to assure me, but it was to no avail. We both knew that that was wishful thinking.
"W-We need to find him," I whispered. "Or else he might...d-die."
I looked up at Theo's mate with teary eyes, who nodded his head in agreement. "We have to tell Theo, now," he said, standing up and pulling me with him. I stumbled into his muscular body, and he helped steady me by looping his arm around my waist.
When we entered the house, he brought me over to one of the couches in the living room and gently pushed me down. I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text to Theo, telling him to get his ass over here. I leaned my head back and stared up at the ceiling. There was an address written on the bottom of the note. Somewhere up North.
Within a few minutes, Theo barged into the house. He entered the room, breathing heavily, which meant he ran all the way here. The Beta rushed over to me and sat on my other side, effectively sandwiching me between him and Kian. It made me feel somewhat protected.
"What did you find?" he breathed out, glancing between me and Kian. I handed him the crumpled up paper and he read it quickly and quietly until-
"Canada!" he shouted angrily, fingers clenching the ends of the paper, which caused Kian and I to jump at his sudden outburst. "Why the fuck did he go to Canada without telling us?!"
I leaned closer to him, pointing at a certain spot in the note. "Don't you see the part where this guy said 'come alone'?" I asked. Theo sighed and ran his hand through his messy hair.
"What are we going to do?" Kian questioned as he moved closer to us. Theo and I stared at him and spotted the concern and determination set in his eyes.
I grabbed both of their hands and gave them a squeeze. "There's only one thing we can do," I whispered.
"Go after him," Theo finished.

I leaned my head against the glass as I stared out the window. Palm trees passed by in a blur as the car sped down the road. The sun barely peaked above the horizon, causing a reddish-pink to paint the sky. Music at a low volume filled the silence as the three of us anxiously sat in our seats. Theo's hands gripped the steering wheel in a manner that wasn't human. I was surprised the wheel did not snap in half. He had the hood of his navy hoodie pulled over his head, shielding himself from us as well as the world around him. Sunglasses sat on his nose as rays of sunlight just barely hit the area on the windshield in front of his eyes.
Kian's head lolled against the window as he slept somewhat peacefully in the back. His hands rested on his knees, gripping the material of his pants. I noticed Theo glancing up at the rear-view mirror every so often.
We were on our way to the international airport located outside of this pack. Humans and supernaturals used the airport. Alphas had their own personal planes, and according to Theo, I would be able to use one due to my status.
It took about an hour of pop music and soft snores from Kian before we reached the airport located by a harbor and a beach. Theo parked the car, and I leaned over the middle console to jab a finger at Kian's leg, who shot up at the contact. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and released a yawn.
"We're here," I told him when he stared at me in confusion. He nodded and slid out of the car just like Theo and I. The three of us walked over to the main glass doors and entered the modern building. Large windows decorated the walls, and the linoleum floor had a glossy finish. Many people, both human and werewolf, waited in lines, bought tickets, and checked in their luggage. Theo motioned us to follow him over to a desk with no line. A young woman stood behind it, glasses perched on her nose and blonde hair pulled tightly into a high ponytail, typing something on the computer sitting on a sleek table.
She looked up when she noticed our presence. She smiled at us, or more specifically, Theo. "Beta Theo, what a pleasure to see you again," she greeted in a sultry tone. By the hint of recognition on Theo's face, I knew he met this woman before, and I was pretty sure it was in a sexual way. "It's been a while, hasn't it?"
Theo crossed his arms and glared at her. "We need a plane," he said, ignoring her comment. At first, I saw dejection in her expression, but she shrugged it off and cleared her throat.
"Sorry about that, Beta, but these planes can't be used without confirmation from the Alpha himself," she said, sounding the least bit sorry. "For precautions."
"That's bullshit," I blurted out. Her eyes wandered over to me and gave me a once over. She pursed her lips at me.
"And who, may I ask, are you?" she asked bitterly. "Definitely not the Beta's mate."
I narrowed my eyes at her. "No," I shot back. "I'm Alpha Jaxton's mate, his Luna." Her eyes widened at my statement. "We would really appreciate it if you booked us a private jet to Canada as soon as possible. If you refuse our request, I won't hesitate to inform your boss that you are not fulfilling the requests of your customers, which will not look good on your part. After all, you denied the request of a beta, the second highest ranking member of a pack, as well as a luna. Now I don't mean to act like a bitch, but well, I am one. Not to mention you started it."
She glared at me, arms crossed over her chest. Then she snuck a peak at Theo, then Kian. "Fine," she snapped, aggressively typing some things into her computer. She gave us the gate and flight number, her tone filled with venom. I wondered what climbed up her ass and died. However, I kept that question to myself.
Unlike normal passengers, we had to bring our luggage with us instead of checking them in, and we had to go through a separate security check. The section of our gate was isolated and barely populated. A man stood at the desk by the gate entrance, looking at a tablet in his hand.
He looked up at the sound of our footsteps. "Ah, you must be Luna Autumn and Beta Theo," he said, reading our names off the electronic. "Your plane awaits you."
Theo nodded and boarded the plane, Kian following right behind him. I stayed back a moment to stare at the man. Something about him seemed off. His scent and facial expression. He flashed me a toothy grin, one that made an unsettling chill crawl up my spine. I quickly caught up to the guys, shaking my wary thoughts out of my head. Maybe I was just paranoid.
The interior of the private jet made my eyes widen in surprise. Plush white seats and sleek wooden tables lined the sides of the plane and a couple TVs hung on the walls. A rug ran along the center of the isle and a strange, yet sweet scent lingered in the air. Theo bobbed his head in satisfaction as he took in our surroundings.
"I hope our accommodations meet your expectations," a male flight attendant said with a smile as him and the pilot stood by the door.
"It's perfect," I answered as I settled down in one of the chairs, sinking into the extremely comfortable material. The uneasiness I felt moments ago completely vanished. Theo took the seat across the aisle, by the window, while Kian sat more towards the back. I guess he didn't want to sit with us.
After a few minutes, the plane jolted forward as it started moving down the runway. Eventually the wheels of the airplane lifted off the ground as the big metal bird soared through the sky. I stared out the oval window next to me, watching the palm trees grow smaller as the ocean became more visible, an endless sea of cerulean blue. I gawked at the view, enjoying the new experience.
"Never flown before?" Theo asked, taking notice of my awed expression.
"Yeah, I didn't really travel," I responded. "I never noticed how big the ocean was."
"Beautiful, isn't it?" he said, looking out his own window. "When we find Jax and go back home, we should go to the beach." I slowly nodded my head, his optimism and certainty not really comforting me. He seemed so sure that Jax was fine and that we would find him easily. However, I didn't think so. We were going into this blindly. We had no knowledge of who this K person was. How strong he was. What he was?
The flight attendant passed by, offering beverages and snacks, but I declined his offer, not in the mood to eat. Nervousness and anxiousness crept up my veins, leaving me uncomfortable. I pulled my earbuds out of my bag and connected them to my phone. Then I stared down at the object in my hand, my eyes widening suddenly.
How did I not think of it?
I shot up in my seat, catching the attention of Theo. "Flight attendant, sir?" I called out, waiting for the man to respond.
"Yes, Luna?" he spoke up, peeking his head from behind the white curtain in the back.
"Is there WiFi on here?" I asked, hopeful.
He frowned. "I'm afraid not." Then he whipped the curtain back to its original place and I sunk into my chair with a frown, my hope deflating.
Theo looked at me, "What were you planning?"
"I wanted to text Jax. I don't know why I didn't do it to begin with, but it never crossed my mind."
"I already tried," Theo said in defeat. "I texted, called, and FaceTimed him last night and this morning before we left, but he never answered."
I sighed, thumping my fingers against my thighs. "Shit," I muttered to myself with a sigh.
Theo discreetly shifted his body and snuck a peak at Kian. I followed his line of vision and saw Kian's head leaning against the window, a frown on his lips and a depressed look in his eyes as he gazed out the window. I felt guilty just at the sight.
"You should go sit with him," I suggested, causing Theo to whip his head at me, eyes wide.
"I-I don't think that's such a good idea," he hissed back. I laughed at his childish behavior.
"Look at him," I pointed out. "He needs some company."
"Then you go talk to him, if you're so worried," Theo snapped, shoving his headphones over his ears to block me out.
Sighing, I placed my own earbuds in my ears and selected a playlist on my phone, allowing the music to drown out my worrying thoughts. It would take around 8 hours to get to British Columbia. I closed the window to block out the sunlight and allowed my eyes to flutter shut. The night before I did not sleep at all. I spent the whole evening pacing and packing and planning. By the time dawn swung around and Theo knocked on the door, my eyes remained open.
Then, when we were about to leave, Kian approached the both of us with a packed bag and determination set on his face, not giving us a choice about him tagging along. It shocked Theo more than me.
Eventually, my mind and body succumbed to the darkness enveloping me.

Wow! Another update! I'm proud of myself, to be honest. But when you are quarantined and have nothing else to do, what's better than writing a story and watching Teen Wolf? Anyways, I hope you guys like the chapter, and I will start on the next chapter soon. Maybe tomorrow :D We'll see how my day goes.
Don't forget to leave a vote! <3
