Boomerang Love Online Novel
Chapter 111
Naomi turned to Brendan and laughed. âItâs rare for you to be in the mood. Iâll indulge you then.â
But when Brendan came out of the shower, she was sitting in front of the computer and studying case
files again
Although she was still wearing the sexy pajamas, she didnât look too eager for their bedtime activity.
Brendan paused in the middle of drying his hair, and his expression shifted abruptly.
âAre you going against your words again?â
She had been teasing him since they had been at the bar, and she was still leaving him hanging.
Hearing this, Naomi turned to Brendan with the printed materials still in her hands.
âTomorrow. Iâll definitely fulfill my promise to you tomorrow.â
Without waiting for Brendanâs answer, she continued, âThis case is a bit complicated. I wonât be able to sleep if I donât make progress today.â
Although Naomi usually appeared carefree, she was actually a workaholic.
Brendan tossed the towel and ran a hand through his hair,
âNaomi, I have lost all trust in you. Donât ever lie to me again.
Sensing Brendanâs unhappiness, Naomi put down her work and stood up.
She walked over to him and threw her arms around his neck. âAre you angry?â
Brendan moved her hands away without saying a word.
Naomi hugged him again. âDonât be! Why donât you wait for me to sort out my thoughts? Then, we can have a round or two. I wonât have the mood to do it otherwise.â
Brendan removed her hands again. âThe mood is lost. Go play by yourself.â
Since Naomi wasnât in the mood, Brendan wasnât either. After all, it was always her who made the first
move.
Seeing that Brendan had avoided her embrace again, Naomi frowned and stomped her feet. âBrendan Ludwig.â
Brendan adjusted her pajamas, which had slipped off her shoulder, and calmly stated, âYouâre supposed to be working. Go on with your business.â
Seeing that Brendan wasnât angry, Naomi took advantage of the situation. âYouâre free anyway. Come help me organize the case files.â
Brendan gave her a blank look. It was bad enough that she kept him up all night. But now she was asking him to help her work.
Chapter 111
Although he was reluctant, he still went over to help her.
As Naomi went through the case files, she said, âItâs a homicide case. The suspect is a boy who just turned 20 years old last month.
âWhen he was 7 years old, his mother was abused by his family. Since he spoke up for his mother, his
father and two uncles beat her to death in front of him.
âIt was a rural area, and it was a family crime. So, the matter was swept under the rug.
âHis father got married just 6 months after his motherâs passing. You can probably imagine how his life turned out. He never had a decent meal and was always beaten.
âWhen he was 11 years old, he ran away from home. I donât know what he went through in the last 9 years.
But I do know that heâs not much of a talker.
âBefore officially taking on this case, I visited him twice and it took a lot of effort for me to get him to
speak.
âHe returned to his hometown two months ago and killed his father and two uncles when no one was
expecting it.
âBut he didnât harm anyone else. He didnât even seek revenge on his grandparents, who had goaded his father into beating his mother.â
Naomi grew melancholic as she spoke about the case.
After a moment of silence, she continued, âIf his father and two uncles had shown him a little mercy back. then, he wouldnât have lived with hatred all his life.
After a pause, she said, âBack then, death by poisoning, hanging, and drowning were all exclusive methods of death for women in rural areas.
âDespite societyâs development and the constant advocation for gender equality and fairness, inequality against women was still a norm.â
It was why Naomi always took on divorce cases, civil cases, and even family disputes.
Even if the other lawyers frowned at such cases, she would do her best to lend her client a listening ear and try her best to resolve the issue.
After all, who knew what they were hiding underneath their indifferent facades?
