Chapter 134
âBalley, it smells amazing! I love you to death,â Ronald exclaimed as soon as he stepped into the house and caught a whiff of Baileyâs soup.
Balley saw Ronald lunging toward her and kicked him away. âGet lost. Donât even think about it.â
Hearing Baileyâs rejection, Ronald turned to Naomi with a pitiful look.
âNaomi, can you believe this? Sheâs so heartless. Iâve been working hard these past few days and even drove for hours to come back. But she wonât even pity me.â
Upon hearing Ronaldâs complaint, Naomi took off her coat slowly. Then, she rolled up her sleeves and cracked her knuckles.
âMaybe I can offer you some âcomfortâ.â
Ronald turned pale. âNo, itâs okay.â
After chatting with Bailey and Ronald, Naomi went to her room to take a shower, When she came out, she saw Ronald was done with his shower and lying on the couch in pajamas while Bailey was giving him a
massage.
The three of them looked just like they did when they were in school.
After a while, as they sat down to eat, Ronald told Bailey about Brendan returning to Ashburgh overnight. Bailey was red with anger by the end of Ronaldâs retelling.
She slammed her hand on the table. âNaomi, I know itâs normal to have conflict in a relationship. But Brendan is not worth it! I think you should call it off.â
Ronald chimed in, âExactly! Thereâs plenty of fish in the sea. Why cling to Brendan? He doesnât even appreciate you. Heâs not worthy of you.â
At the same time, Brendan was in the hospital. He stood with his hands in his pockets. While he watched Caleb, who had just returned to the ward, he suddenly sneezed.
Seeing this, Chloe turned to Brendan and muttered softly, âBrendan, sorry for troubling you these past few days. Iâve taken up enough of your time. I donât know what I would do if it werenât for you and Jason.â
Chloeâs eyes began to water.
Her family had many issues, and the two years had not been kind to her. She often worried about things, which took a toll on her. But she was glad Brendan was there to lend a helping hand.
Brendan tossed the tissue into the trash can and calmly shrugged. âCaleb is young, so heâll recover quickly. As long as he eats healthy, it wonât affect his growth.â
âGot it!â Chloe nodded, then turned to Caleb, who lay in the hospital bed. âCaleb, hurry up and thank
Brendan.â
*Thank you, Brendan. Caleb obediently followed Chloeâs Instructions. âIâll listen to my sister and take good care of my injured foot. I wonât cause her any trouble.â
âDonât neglect your studies either. Jason will arrange a tutor for you tomorrow.â Brendan nodded.
âThank you, Brendan and Jason.â Caleb smiled.
Caleb was accidentally hit by the principalâs car during his extracurricular class at school that day. fracturing his left leg. After a few days, he had surgery that afternoon and had just come out.
After Caleb thanked Brendan, Chloe turned to Brendan again. âBrendan, itâs getting late. You should go
back and get some rest!â
She added, âThe weather is getting colder. I saw you sneezing earlier. Remember to put on thicker
clothes.â
Brendan hummed faintly and bid farewell to Caleb before leaving.
Chloe accompanied Brendan downstairs and didnât go back to the hospital until his car disappeared from her sight. Only then did she go back to Caleb reluctantly.
How she wished she could be with Brendan. But then again, Brendan treated her well. He would always. help her when her family was facing issues.
Thinking of this, Chloe gently stroked her face and smiled contentedly. There might still be hope for her
and Brendan!
Half an hour later, Brendan returned to Yellowind Bay. Seeing that the house was still as empty as ever, he asked Jennifer. âHas Naomi not come back yet?â
