Gao Ran’s superiors were giving him immense pressure to solve the case as he was the director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau.

“We might have a chance. Maybe I can ask someone…” Qin Chu seemed to have someone in mind.

“Who?”

“Leave this to me first. If I have any updates, I’ll let you know. Hey, Gao. A piece of advice for your subordinates: be smart! You guys can continue investigating but make sure not to piss Ian off since we don’t know what kind of crazy shit he will do.”

“I understand what you’re saying. Don’t worry about it.”

“Okay. That’s all from me.” Then, Qin Chu hung up and came out of the washroom only to discover Huo Mian was no longer in her seat. He was petrified and started calling out, “Mian.”

He didn’t hear any response so he became even more worried.

“Mian, Mian…” he shouted.

“Mr. Qin, what’s wrong?” the owner of the restaurant came over to ask.

“Where’s my wife? I don’t see my wife!”

“Oh, your wife told me just now that she’s going to buy a bubble tea from next door. She told me to tell you to wait for her here if you came out looking for her…”

“Next door?” Without saying anything else, Qin Chu immediately started running.

Luckily, he found Huo Mian standing behind a few high school students at the bubble tea shop next to Ah-Xin’s Ramen.

When Qin Chu saw her, he let out a long sigh of relief.

Mian, why did you come running over here?” Qin Chu went up and held her hands.

“Oh, I was just a bit thirsty after eating ramen. It’s too cold for pop so I thought I’d go buy a bubble tea just like the old days. When I thought about that taste of pure tea, I felt reminiscent so I came over… I told the owner of Ah-Xin’s Ramen to tell you I was here though.”

“Yeah. He told me…” Qin Chu nodded.

“Then why are you still so nervous? Honey, what’s the matter? You’ve been acting strange lately…” Huo Mian giggled with a hand covering her mouth.

“Nothing. I’m just worried about you. I’m scared that something bad would happen to you.”

“What could happen to me? I’m the deputy director of South Side and also a prominent doctor…” Huo Mian said proudly.

Then she leaned onto Qin Chu’s shoulder and started praising herself.

Qin Chu couldn’t bring himself to scold her. He didn’t know what else he could do so he stroked her hair gently.

The couple chatted while lining up behind the students. They enjoyed such mundane moments of happiness.

“Honey, do you remember the times back when we were still students? I used to love the bubble tea from here, right? The taste was great and so was the price but it was so hard to buy. On Valentine’s Day, you bought all the bubble tea at the store so I could have it to myself. Even if someone else wanted to buy bubble tea, you wouldn’t let them. It was such a waste because I couldn’t drink all that bubble tea by myself…” Huo Mian felt warm when she recalled the days when they were in high school.

Qin Chu nodded and said, “Yeah. Back then I thought I’d get you anything you wanted at all costs…”

“You’re too domineering. You bought the whole bubble tea shop for a day and disallowed anyone else from buying bubble tea… Everyone at 2nd High School was jealous and envious of me… Lingling teased me and said I’d be the Queen of bubble tea. She said that I was such a lucky person to have so much bubble tea…”

“Yeah. If you want, I could buy the whole thing so you can drink it all by yourself…” Qin Chu said to Huo Mian wdth adoring eyes.

“No… Haha… I think that’s too childish now. We should keep a low profile…” Huo Mian felt so cheesy that she hid in Qin Chu’s arms.

Finally, it was their turn. Huo Mian ordered an original bubble tea. The price of it, however, doubled and was now 12 Yuan. It was quite a rip-off. However, the taste was still the same.

Huo Mian poked the straw into the drink and put it by Qin Chu’s mouth. She looked at Qin Chu with puppy eyes and said, “Honey, you drink first.”

Not far away from them was Ian in his black Sedan. He said in fluent English, “No wonder Huo loves her so much. She sure is adorable…”
