Chapter 157
âSpit it out here,â Thaddeusâ gaze was locked onto Evadne.
Jareth frowned, not sure how to start the conversation.
âThad, Thad!â
Suddenly, a shout echoed, sending chills down Jarethâs spine.
Marilla was startled awake by the sound, her eyes snapping open, and she clutched onto Evadneâs clothes.
âWhatâs going on? Has something happened to Mr. Hamiltion?â
âChill out, Marilla. With me around, how can anything happen to Mr. Hamiltion?â
Evadne cast a cold glance at Acacia, and then helped Marilla up as she a**ured her, âMarilla, letâs go rest. As soon as Mr. Hamiltion wakes up, youâll see him.â
Watching her calmly walk away. Thaddeus felt as if his heart had been shot, the pain making it hard to breathe.
âThad!â
Acaciaâs eyes were swollen from crying. She tried to throw herself at Thaddeus but was stopped in her tracks by Jareth.
âMs. Acacia, you should go to the hospital to see Mr. Stirling, then look for a lawyer to help your Mrs. Stirling. Thatâs what you should do right now.â
Acacia seemed to ignore Jarethâs words and continued to cry and shout, âIâve been framed! Iâm the victim! Thad, you must believe me. How could I possibly betray you?â
Thaddeus turned his back on her, clenching his teeth. His gaze was icy cold.
Hearing Acacia talk about love, he only felt disgusted.
Jareth looked at her coldly and warned her, âYou should consider yourself lucky. Thad is a kind man. If it was up to me, Iâd make you and your lover vanish, making the Stirling family pack up and leave this city, never to appear before me again.â
Acacia was trembling with fear from his words.
After a while, Thaddeus slowly turned around, his gaze coldly fixed on Acacia.
âGet out.â
âNo, I wonât leave!â
Acaciaâs voice still had a hint of coquettishness. She stubbornly refused to leave that place as if she had thought that Thaddeus couldnât do anything to hurt her.
However, Thaddeus had already messaged Gordon, who had arrived with two b*dyguards.
âGet her out of here, donât disturb the other patients,â Thaddeusâ voice was cold and penetrating.
âYes, Mr. Thaddeus.â They nodded and were on their way to follow his order.
Gordon, looking furious, walked up to Acacia and, with another b*dyguard, escorted her away.
âThereâs nothing going on between me and George! Heâ¦he forced me to be his girlfriend. After I rejected him, he even abused me! He got me pregnant!â
Acacia, in a desperate attempt to win back Thaddeusâ heart, could only defend herself with ridiculous lies and continued to say, âHeâs been using my weaknessesâ¦threatening me multiple times. If I had disagreed to his proposal, he had threatened to completely ruin my life! Thaddeus, Iâm also a victim! Why wonât you believe me?!â
âAcacia.â
Thaddeusâ eyes were filled with a cold indifference that made her feel desperate, without a shred of hope, âOur breakup has nothing to do with George, or your child.â
These words left Acacia utterly confused.
She stared at Thaddeus, dumbfounded, looking lost.
âI wouldnât blame you if you left me to go abroad, fell in love with someone else, or even had a child.â
Thaddeusâ eyes started to turn red, his fingers clenched into a fist as he angrily said, âBut you shouldnât have lied to me, saying you had severe depression. You used your illness to disregard my feelings, trying to coerce me into marrying you!â
âNoâ¦noâ¦thatâs not itâ¦â Acaciaâs face turned pale, her words incoherent.
She realized that she had made a terrible, irreparable mistake!
She used depression as an excuse to deceive him, only thinking about how she could use it to hold onto Thaddeusâ heart. But she forgot that both Thaddeus and his mother had suffered deeply from depression!
He had been so tolerant of her, even giving up Evadne, who loved him deeply, because he was afraid that she would follow his motherâs path.
However, she didnât expect that once that huge lie was exposed, it would be the same as playing with Thaddeusâ feelings and insulting his mother!
How could he ever forgive her after all that?
Absolutely impossible!
âYou used my and my motherâs illness as a tool to play with others.â
Thaddeus was filled with regret and anger, making him mock himself, âAcacia, you made me feel like a fool.â
âThaddeusâ¦noâ¦thatâs not itâ¦â
Jareth shook his head in disgust and snapped as he was furious with her, âAcacia, you grew up with Thad, no one knows better than you how much he suffered back then. If you had a shred of conscience, you wouldnât have used this method to torment and deceive Thad time and time again. How can you use your past as a tool for moral kidnapping, threatening him? Iâm starting to doubt if you ever truly loved Thad. Is this how you love someone? If so, Iâd rather stay single forever than be with aâmalicious person like you. This is just disgusting.â
âJareth, enough.â
Thaddeus didnât want to recall anything about Acacia, nor did he want to entangle with her any further, so he ordered to get her away from his sight, saying, âGordon, I donât want to see Acacia anymore. Make her disappear from my sight.â
âYes, Mr. Thaddeus!â
Gordon looked at Acacia as if she had been nothing but trash, forcefully pushing her out the door.
âThaddeus! How could you treat me like this?!â
Acacia finally shed the last bit of her pitiful disguise, screaming in a fit of rage, âAll those things you said are just excuses for you to leave me! Youâre just tired of me! You just fell in love with Evadne and donât need me anymore! Whatâs so good about Evadne? Has she ever saved you? She had ulterior motives from the start when she got close to you! Isnât she also deceiving you?â
âShut up! Youâre not fit to compare yourself to her!â
Thaddeus was all red-eyed, hollering at Acacia like he had never done before. âIf you badmouth Evadne one more time, Iâll make sure the Stirlings have nowhere left to stand! Get out. Right now!â
The way Thaddeus was fuming, his harsh words hit Acacia like a ton of bricks. She was shaking all over, scared out of her wits. If it werenât for Gordon holding her up, she wouldâve collapsed right there and then.
She had no idea that Evadne meant the world to Thaddeus!
She had just wanted to change the topic by bringing up Evadne and to distract him. But look how that turned out! She ended up being the laughingstock, once again the clown
of the hour.
Acacia was taken away, and the hallway returned to its calm state.
âThad. I got to congratulate you no matter what,â Jareth said with much comfort. Seeing him step out of the shadows brought a sense of relief. He gave Thaddeus a hearty slap on the shoulder, âNo matter how much theyâve fooled you, no matter how long youâve been duped, itâs never too late to turn back.â
âNever too late, huh?â
Thaddeus managed a pained laugh, his shoulders trembling weakly.
But to him, everything felt like it was too late.
