“Exams were coming up and Mom had arranged with the principal and my homeroom teacher to keep me focused and not let me get distracted. I was just buying snacks for my sister, but Mom thought I was dating. What a misunderstanding,” Aaron grumbled.

“Someone put my photo up for the ‘best boy’ award at school. I won first place and after that, I was always surrounded by obsessed female fans. My locker was overflowing with gifts and love letters. It was so annoying! Which is why I decided to let Mom handle it, so I could get some peace and quiet.” “Hold up! Are you saying you used me as a shield against all your admirers? Even your own sister?” Evadne raised her eyebrows, lightly tapping his forehead with her finger.

Aaron stuck out his tongue playfully. “All things considered, I don’t want to get married. Given my job, anyone who marries me is practically signing up for widowhood. It’s too cruel.”

“Same here, Evadne agreed.

“You should get married though. That guy who came over to our house last time seemed interested in you. He was staring at you all night. You should consider him.”

Aaron leaned in closer and whispered, “But he looked kind of pale, didn’t he? Is he sick or something? Our family’s loaded, so you need to find someone with good genes who can carry on the Ashbourne line. We can’t have someone with health issues. It’ll affect your happiness in your later years.” Aaron said seriously.

“He’s not an outsider, but he’s still a man.”

Aaron frowned slightly, giving Jason a cold glance. “You should get a female secretary. I don’t like seeing a male one.”

“You’re being paranoid because of your job. You think everyone’s a bad guy,” Evadne said, waving him off dismissively.

“Being cautious never hurt anyone.”

Aaron helped Evadne into the car, closed the door, and Jason took a bow. He was about to take his leave.

“Hold on,” Aaron called him back.

“What can I do for you?” Jason asked calmly.

“As Evadne’s secretary, you’re always around her. You’re to support her, but also remember your place.”

Aaron’s eyes gave off an intimidating coldness. “You can’t entertain feelings for those who will never belong to you, let alone cross any boundaries. I’m different from my elder brothers. I’m naturally cautious and have seen too much evil, so I’m not overly optimistic about people.”

Jason took a deep breath, clenching his fists.

“In short, you shouldn’t harbour improper thoughts about Evadne and definitely shouldn’t take inappropriate actions because of those thoughts. Otherwise, I won’t let you off easily.”

“I know the law too. It can control actions but not thoughts.” Jason tried to suppress his grievances. With his eyes slightly red, he expressed his deepest feelings, “I won’t do anything to her. I truly love her, so I respect her. But you can’t stop me from loving her. Loving someone isn’t a crime.”

Aaron frowned slightly.

Even though he didn’t like Jason, he was being straightforward.

“You better remember what you said today.”

“Hey, what are you guys talking about? Are we leaving yet? I’m so sleepy!” Evadne asked, squinting through the car window.

“We’ll leave right away, miss.” Jason turned back, giving her a warm smile.

“Evadne, give me a call when you get home.” Aaron looked worried, he made a phone call gesture.

Evadne gave him an “ok” sign, waved at him and then left with Jason.

Aaron watched his sister leaving with a smile, but he didn’t leave. The smile in his eyes suddenly disappeared. His eyes coldly scanned the opposite side of the road, and then he turned and left.

On the opposite side of the road, Gordon’s black Porsche was hidden in the dark. He had just sent his location to Thaddeus, Evadne left in a few seconds, and the other guy disappeared.

“Where the hell did he go?”

As Gordon was wondering, the car door was suddenly opened, and he felt suffocated. A large hand grabbed his collar harshly, like catching a chick, and pulled him out of the car effortlessly.

“Hey, hey, hey! What the hell are you doing?”

Gordon yelled in fear when he saw Aaron appear like a ghost, “You can’t do this, we are in a lawful society! I’m calling the police!”

“No need for that.”

Aaron’s eyes were cold. He pulled out his police badge from his pocket and showed it to him, “I’m a cop. I’m here to catch stalkers like you.”

Gordon sucked in a breath, his mind in turmoil.

Evadne yawned several times in the car. She was about to fall asleep.

Then, her phone rang.

“Aaron, what’s up? I’m not home yet, you’re too anxious.”

“Evadne, do you know a guy named Gordon?” Aaron’s h oa rse voice came through.

Evadne woke up instantly, sitting up straight, “What happened? Why are you suddenly mentioning this guy?”

“Evadne, where did you meet this guy with bad conduct? His phone is full of candid photos of you! I caught him!”
