His Ex wife is a billionaire Chapter 747
His Ex wife is a billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) Novel Full Episode
Chapter 747
âYou disagree?â
Fredericâs lips twisted into a sneer that was far from paternal as he glared down at Thaddeus, âYou think you can fill my shoes while Iâm still breathing? Do you think youâd be CEO of the Abernathy Group if I hadnât paved the way? Cocky, arenât you? Like a rooster crowing at daybreak, thinking itâs responsible for the sunrise?â
Thaddeus felt more worry than anger, particularly for Marilla. If her engagement to the Bartley family was set in stone, he couldnât imagine the lengths Jareth might go to once he found out. It could end in a blaze of mutual destruction, or perhaps Jareth would be so crushed heâd never recover.
Marilla wasnât like Evadne, with her rockâsolid resolve and a fighting spirit. She had always been the compliant onÄ, too gentle for her own good, always bending to othersâ whims. And now, she was the one suggesting they break up.
âYour brother is ill, not dead. Donât get too comfortable in that CEO chair, nor think that your grandpaâs favor makes you invulnerable. Youâre acting like you donât have a father to answer to, constantly challenging my decisions!â Fredericâs voice carried a thinly veiled threat, âI just visited Chad in the State. His health is improving.â
Thaddeusâ brows furrowed, his eyes narrowing.
âChad told me heâs planning to come home as soon as heâs stronger, to be with his family.â
Frederic stood at a high position, his words laced with malice, âYour grandpa and I have always favored the firstborn. Chadâs just been away too long, which is why youâve had a chance to shine in front of your grandpa. But when he returns, feeling guilty, Grandpa will surely make it up to him. Then weâll see if thereâs still a place for you at the Abernathy Group.â
Late into the night, Gordon arrived at Thaddeusâ study with the latest on the Fairhaven Group.
The room was hazy with smoke. Thaddeus, his fingertips calloused from work, held a cigarette as he browsed through documents, his gaze indecipherable, concealing his emotions.
Noticing the overflowing ashtray, Gordon sighed with concern, âMr. Abernathy, I get youâre upset, but brooding and smoking like a chimney could, you know, affect your semen.â
Thaddeus shot him a frosty look, âYou a relationship guru now, or what?â
Gordon coughed awkwardly, âNope, just speaking out of turn, sir.â
Gordon sighed again, âMrs. Abernathy hates the smell of smoke, and you know it. If you go home smelling like that, sheâs gonna be pissed.â
âIâm staying at Windermere Estate for a few days, to be with Marilla. Evadne knows.â
A vision of his woman, hands on hips and pouting, flashed before Thaddeusâ eyes, sending his heart racing. He ached to hold her close, to pin her down, to lose themselves in each other.
âMr. Abernathy, you must be really out of sorts today. You wouldnât be sneaking cigarettes behind Mrs. Abernathyâs back otherwise.â Gordon asked with concern, âWhatâs going on?â
âGive this info to Mr. Fairhaven. Itâs solid,â Thaddeusâ voice was unperturbed.
âAlright,â seeing his boss didnât plan to tell, Gordon knew better than to pry further.
âAlso, delegate your work for now. I need you to focus on digging into the Bartley family.â
The Bartley family? Which ones?â
The manâs gaze darkened, âTimothy Bartley.â
Gordon was taken aback, âMr. Bartley?â

âFrom Timothy down to his wife and his son Alston. Whatever dirt you can find.â
As they spoke, a gentle knock sounded at the door.
âThaddeus, you in there? Itâs Marilla.â
Thaddeus hurried to the door to let her in. There she stood, nervously twining her fingers in the dim hallway light.
âMarilla, why are you still up? Itâs late,â Thaddeus asked, his voice softening.
She bit her lip, âThaddeus, can we talk?â
âOf course, come on in.â
Thaddeus ushered his sister inside, and Gordon excused himself to give them privacy.
â
âMarilla, donât take to heart what Dad said. I wonât let you marry into the Bartley family, and Evadne would never agree.â
âThaddeus.â
Before he could finish, Marilla cut in, her voice gloomy, more. Please stay out of this from now on.â
Ou and Evadne have done enough. I canât ask for
A pang shot through Thaddeusâ chest, âWhat are you saying, Marilla?â
Tears threatened to spill from her eyes as she fought to hold them back, âI will do as Dad wishes. Iâll marry into the Bartley family.â
