Clasping her hands together, Xivar prayed to Nyx. “Please, let my next baby be a sweet little girl.”

“A sweet little girl?” Nyx gave her a complicated look and shook her head. “Well, I don’t think I can help with that.”

Nyx had given birth to a little girl. But she didn’t think Sera was ‘sweet. Not even close.

Xivar didn’t catch the subtext. Still hugging Sera tight, she made an offer. “Then let me borrow Sera for a day. I’ll trade you my little bear and baby seal for her.”

Nyx had known Nivar for years and completely trusted her with Sera. She asked Sera if she wanted to go, and when Sera nodded, she agreed.
