Chapter 12

Finding Mr Right ✔️

I hurriedly get up from my bed, have my bath and head downstairs after putting on my clothes.

"Honey, is everything alright?" Mum asks with an amused look.

"Yeah. Why do you ask?" I grin at her.

"You seem extremely happy today."

"Oh, yeah." I sit on a stool and swivel around to face her. "Mia and James went on a date yesterday and it's been months since they've done that and I have this feeling there's a reason why."

"Ohh, i see." She replies with interest. "So what do you think the outcome would be?"

I shrug not able to predict. "But I promise when she tells me, I'll inform you." I kiss her cheek before heading out for work.

*****

"Hey there." I greet when I find Mia in the SR.

"Hey." She smiles hugging me.

"So tell me." I plop on the sofa.

"Tell you what?" She asks, acting dumb.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about. You and James' BIG date duhh."

"Oh, that. I remember, but you'll have to wait till were done with work." She beams excitedly before calming down.

I try reading her facial expression, noting a hint of sadness?

If James did anything bad to her? I'll hunt him down for the rest of his life.

"Sure" i give her a genuine smile while thoughts about why she was sad kept popping in my head.

"Enough about that. How have you been?" She wiggles her eye brows, while poking me.

"Ehn, the normal boring life." I wave her off.

"I'm guessing this is when I suggest..."

"Don't even go there." I give her a stern look.

"Fine, fine. Doesn't mean you should murder me." She laughs making me laugh too. She is the best person to have around all the time right after my family, of course.

~~~~~
"Is that all?" I ask the beautiful couple before me after clicking the pen I'm holding.
"Yes. Thank you." The woman replies. I'm about to walk away before she speaks. "Dear, can we get your name?" They look like they're late forties. I give them a genuine smile, before replying.
"It's Dianna, ma'm."
"Beautiful name. I wish Nicholas would find someone like her. Don't you, Don?" She smile gracefully at her husband.
"I do agree." Se also smiles.
"Thank you but I have to go make sure your orders get to the head chef." With that, I leave them.
Nicholas. The name somewhat rang a bell, but I shrug it off. Many people bear the name Nicholas so there's nothing to it.
It's 3:30pm and we're done with our shift, so Mia can tell me what happened during their date.
I'm anxious and I also have a feeling something's wrong somewhere.
I get to the SR and soon enough Mia walks in too.
"I'm ready to tell you now." Mia sits beside me, while I smile urging her to go on.
She shows me her left hand, making me gasp.
"James proposed, we're getting married in 3 months..." she grins before frowning and looking down. "... And we're relocating to texas." I allow the other information to sink in, before giving a sad smile. "Say something Mel, please." She reaches out and holds my hand.
"I'm happy for you Mia." She hugs me making me hug her tighter. My nightmare's a reality. She's going to leave me, we won't live in the same neighbourhood and wont be able to visit each other often.
A tear escapes my eye, begining the sobbing session.
******
We keep hugging eachother, while i feel hot tears dripping on my back. I'm going to miss her way too much for my own good.
After sometime, we finally part and wipe our tears.
"Hey, look on the bright side. You'll have a family to look after and you'll be a mum and wife." I smile, trying to lighten the mood.
"That optimistic behaviour is what I'll miss the most." She smiles back, before pulling out a box from her bag. She puts the pendant around my neck. "Anytime you miss me, hold on to it."
I hug her not being able to speak. It's funny though, we're meant to celebrate but after about 11 years of staying together, being separated is one of the tragic things of life.
She stands, carrying her bag
"I'll be going but I'll talk to you later, ok?" I nod giving her a side smile watching her leave.
In three months, it would be the way she would leave and never turn back. I run my hand through my hair as the tears threaten to spill again.
"Dia... Oh." I hear Thomas call before stopping abruptly. He sits on the sofa and hugs me, stroking my hair while saying everything will be okay. I really hope it's true.
*****
"If you need anything, call me okay?" Thomas offers.
"Yeah. Thanks " I smile gratefully.
Thomas calmed me down and walked me home while trying to make me laugh.
I keep praying what he said in the staff room s true- about how things are going be okay.
I watch him leave, before sighing and getting into the house.
Lay on the bed, I go through the pictures we had taken and although it would hurt to see her leave, she deserves it since she has found her future.
"Honey." I hear mums voice through the half opened door.
"Yeah?" I sit up.
"Are you okay?" She asks sitting down.
"Not really, Mia's getting married." She gasps clapping her hands.
"Oh my goodness. That's great..."
"And she's moving to Texas." At that, she drops her hands with an apologetic look.
"Honey, I'm so sorry." I'm tired of getting too emotional. Besides this is a good thing.
"It's ok. It's great news besides I'm pretty tired of getting puffy eyes." She laughs before hugging me.
"You're a brave girl and you're turning out exactly how I want you to be: brave, smart, beautiful, loyal and optimistic. That just tells me that guys of your generation are pretty ignorant. Except that Thomas guy, he looks interested."
"Mum, he has a girlfriend!" I bury my face in my palms.
"Oh, sorry about that." I shake my head smiling.
"It's ok, but we're just friends please."
"Whatever you say." She stands. "I should leave so I can catch up with your dad before he leaves on Saturday." I laugh, nodding as she left.
This really, is the best family I could ever ask for.
