Chapter 56
30 Days till I Divorce My Husband (Estrella and Jason)
Chapter 56 âEstrella,â Kristin called out with a wave of her hand as she spotted her approaching.
Estrella came closer and whispered, âDid someone have their way with Bryce?â
Kristin shook her head, âNo. Itâs not that serious.â
The Nelsons were known for calling a family council only when there was a serious issue at hand. These meetings used to be a rarity, but ever since Estrella tied the knot with Jason, they seemed to become a tad more frequent.
Keith took his seat at the head of the table and eyed Estrella as she walked in. âEstrella,â he began, âthe Lamont family said you incited Janie and Paula to hit someone last night.â
Estrella shrugged. âGrandpa, Iâm not that powerful. Just laid out some truth for them. Whatever happened next, thatâs on the Lamonts to decide.â
Her words made Keithâs face darken a bit for show, though inside he was clear as day that the girl was up to no good. He retorted, âEven so, you shouldnât have stirred the potr right now. Any other time wouldâve done.â
âJanie was trying to school me on life, and how to bear sons. So, I figured Iâd just seek some tips from Hunter on how heâs so darn capable,â Estrella shot back.
The elders began to chime in.
âEstrellaâs always been sensible. Last night, it must have been Janie and Paula who provoked her first.â
âExactly. I saw it with my own eyes,â Jasonâs aunt exclaimed. She had initially wanted to rush to Estrellaâs defense, but seeing Estrella in full control, she held back. She didnât want to cramp Estrellaâs style by stepping in and playing peacemaker. Instead, she enjoyed the drama from the sidelines. And what a delightful show it was.
âDad, Estrella knows where the line is. She wouldnât start anything,â Kristin also sided with Estrella.
One by one, everyone rallied behind Estrella, leaving Keith with no room to scold. He knew all too well that the Lamonts had grand ambitions and were gunning for the Dorvolds.
Unable to berate Estrella, he turned his attention to Jason. âEstrellaâs got a passable excuse. What about you, Jason?â
Jason, hands in his pockets, coolly replied, âNo excuse.â
Estrella, intrigued, quietly asked her aunt-in-law, âWhat did Jason do to Bryce?â
Her aunt-in-law whispered back, âThat rascal soaked Bryce in a bath all night and wouldnât let him relieve himself with any ladies.
Nearly broke the man.â
1/3 12.50 Estrella mused, âMight as well have just had someone take Bryce by force.â
âNo, thatâs not the way,â her aunt-in-law replied âGrandpa says all of the Nelson familyâs mischief seems to have landed on that one.â
Keithâs expression darkened as he declared, âYou two, each as mischievous as the other. I say you better just stick together for life and spare the rest of the world your trouble.â It was clear to him that either of them paired with another would be unmatched;
no one could handle their level of mischief.
Looking at Jasonâs demeanor, Keith spoke up with dissatisfaction, âJason, even if Bryce Was hur you shouldnât punish him like that. What if it causes a real problem?â
With a serene air, Jason said, âI know what Iâm doing.â
Estrella gave Jason a sidelong glance and then shot Bryce a sympathetic look. Bryce, taking the cue, dramatically lunged for a hug, sobbing, âEstrella, Jason is a monster. Last night, he almost killed me.â
As Estrella moved to console Bryce, Jason shot her a frigid stare, âBryce, try touching her.â Bryceâs arms, mid-air, froze, and then he bawled even louder, âEstrella, Jason wonât let me hug you.â
Feeling sorry for Bryce, Estrella went over and hugged him. âThere, Iâll hug you. That better? If you need more, Iâll scout out some good company for you.â
Her comment left everyone flushed with embarrassment. This brazen girl.
Bryce, even more despondent, confessed, âI canât even think about it anymore. Iâm scared Iâll never be able to perform again after last nightâs blunder.â
The room fell silent.
Estrella teased, âWorst comes to worst, Iâll accompany you for a gender reassignment surgery. Lifeâs easier as a woman, less effort involved.â
The elders didnât know where to look.
Seeing Estrella still hugging Bryce, Jason kicked her playfully, âCanât let go.
Estrella let go and retaliated with a couple of kicks of her own, âStay away.
you?â
from me.â
Jasonâs domineering attitude rubbed his aunt the wrong way, and she couldnât help but remark sarcastically, âJason, I thought you couldnât stand Estrella. Werenât you the one insisting on a divorce? Whatâs this about now?
âWhen did I ever say I didnât want her or insist on a divorce?â Jason countered.
His aunt reminded him, âWe all heard it. Estrella herself can testify.
But Jason was adamant. âI never said that.â

Seems to me the only way youâll straighten up is by becoming parents.â
His aunt looked skeptical. âJason, are you sure youâre up to it? Maybe you should get some tips from Hunter.â
âThatâs right. Heâs got three sons, with the youngest being twins.â
âNo need, thank you.â Jasonâs expression darkened.
Jason, no shame if thereâs a problem. Weâre all family here.â
Bryce chimed in, âBro, if you canât manage, I can put our past behind us and lend a hand.â
That comment took a weird turn. As soon as Bryce finished, both Estrella and Jason kicked him in unison. Bryce looked confused, âWhat did I say wrong now?â
His mother spoke up, âYou deserved those kicks.â
Still, Bryce couldnât figure it out. Everyone was saying the same thing, and why was he the one getting hit?
The group was buzzing with chatter, and Kristin eventually turned to Jason, her gaze locking onto his with an intensity that commanded the room. âJason, by the end of the year, Estrella better be expecting, or youâre marching straight to the doctor, no ifs or buts.â, âYeah, Jason, itâs high time you and Estrella had a kid. Itâs starting to look odd,â another voice chimed in.
âJason, why donât you let Bryce come with you for a check-up at the clinic?â suggested someone else, trying to lighten the atmosphere.
Jason, unfazed by the mounting pressure, casually pulled his hand from his pocket and placed it heavily on Estrellaâs nape, kneading it with a familiarity that spoke volumes. some serious âEstrella, you sure know how to get everyone on your side. Youâve got s skills.â
Estrella, with a scoff that resonated with self-assurance, shrugged off his hand. âWhat can I say? Iâm just a good person.â
Kristin, not satisfied with Jasonâs nonchalance bore down on him with a look that could ahy or not?â cut steel. âJason, we need an answer. Are you two going to have a Jason lifted his head, feeling the weight of all their stares, the silent anticipation hanging in the air. Everyone was waiting for his response.
