Chapter 34
The Remorseful Brothers
Chapter 34 Meanwhile, at the Larson residence, Thomas sat on the couch with his five sons around him.
There was a pile of fancy gifts on the coffee table.
Winslet sat in the middle of them, wearing a new branded dress like a little princess.
She enjoyed being the center of everyoneâs attention and admiration.
âAre all these gifts to celebrate my going to school or my discharge from the hospital?â
Lucas replied, âOf course, itâs for both occasions, Winnie. Didnât you notice each of us gave you two gifts? Youâre our baby sister, so we canât be stingy with you.â
Winslet smiled sweetly. âYouâre the best, Lucasâ
âYouâre showing favoritism, Winnie: Joelâs lips curved slightly. Take a guess. If you get it wrong, weâll be really unhappyâ
The eldest brother, Harley, looked dotingly at Winslet. âIf you get it wrong, weâll take back the gifts Thomas laughed. âYouâre all grown adults. Why are you all picking on Winne Winslet clung to Thomas and wrinkled her nose defiantly. âHumph, no way am I guessing that. I want all of them! Otherwise, Iâll tell Dad!â
Everyone roared with laughter.
The atmosphere within the family was joyful Just then, Layla came back As soon as she entered the house, the smiles of those in the room instantly faded.
âWell, I finally managed to bring this young lady back. She doesnât treat us as a family at all. You have no idea how harsh her words were just now.â Layla proceeded to sit on the couch and sip some coffee. âLuckily, Benjamin was with me. Otherwise donât think Iâll be able to bring her back.â
Benjamin dragged Madeline forcefully and felt sorry for treating her that way. âIf Madeline came back with us willingly. things wouldnât have gone out of hand.â
Madeline shook off his hand and spat, âLet me go.â
Winslet then chimed in hypocritically, âMaddie, you canât blame them. You were too reckless. Mom and Dad had been worried sick and had not had a proper meal since. You should have come home earlier. Youâre not even answering our calls and messages. We were concerned about you.â
Winslet shifted to the side as she spoke to give a space on the couch. âDonât just stand there, Maddie, Come and sit with me.
Our brothers gave me a lot of gifts. You can pick whatever you ×.
Lucas frowned. âIf she dares to take what I gave you, Iâll break her hands.
âHa.â Joel smiled. âIâd rather you throw my gifts away than give them to her.â
The other three brothers remained silent.
Thomas waved his hand dismissively and said, âThatâs enough. Our family rarely gets together. Today is to celebrate Winnie.
Letâs not be hostile to one another.â

Thomas added, âMaddie, I know youâre reluctant to do it. But you owe Winnie this time. I wonât comment on what happened in the past, but you really hurt Winnie this time. You should be grateful she didnât press charges against youâ Thomas sighed. Just take it as compensation for Winnie.â
Madeline felt sick and nauseous when she heard this.
She balled her hands into a fist by her side as she shook with anger.
This is so unfair. It was clearly a plot devised by Winslet, I canât believe she could easily manipulate my parents and brothersâ
trust. Perhaps they are already biased toward Winslet. My existence is just a joke to them. Thereâs no doubt that if both of us were in danger, they would choose to save Winslet without giving me a second thought,â Madeline thought miserably.
One of the helpers standing by the side whispered, âMs. Madeline Larson, you are too stubborn. Back in my days, a daughter like you would have been kicked out of the house. Youâre lucky Mr. Thomas Larson and Mrs. Larson are generous enough to overlook your misbehavior.â
âItâs none of your business, Madeline uttered.
She glanced around and found that Anne, the only one who was friendly to her at home, was not there. âWhere is Anne?â
A trace of arrogance flashed in Winsletâs eyes. âOh, Anne! Sheâs so mentally confused that she stole my necklace worth 36.000 dollars, so sheâs in prison now. I know you and Anne are quite close, Maddie. Youâre still young; itâs normal see through her.â
you canât Madeline glared ferociously at Winslet.
She knew exactly what kind of person Anne was.
Anne had been faithfully working for the Larson family for the past 15 years.
Thus, Madeline did not find it hard to believe that Winslet would frame Anne.
Anneâs kindness to Madeline had, in turn, become the formerâs downfall.
âWinslet, you really are something.â
âMaddie, why did you say that? You canât be thinking that I framed Anne, do you? Why would I do such a thing? Your prejudice against me is too deep, Maddie. Iâm not sure how to get along with you anymore. Maybe itâs best if I leave... Winslet responded as if she was being wronged.
Layla could not stand it anymore and bellowed, âEnough! Anne brought it upon herself for being dishonest. She has a poor character. How can you blame Winnie for this? Are you out of your mind?â
Benjamin observed Madeline with disappointment in his eyes. Your jealousy is so horrible. Is it really that difficult for you. to accept that some people are better than you? Why do you always think so poorly of others? You werenât like this in the past. How could you change so terribly?â
Benjamin continued to look at Madeline.
Even though Madeline was dressed plainly, she still looked very beautiful, like a pearl covered with dust but could still shine through. It made people almost unable to move their eyes away âStay home for a year and think about what you did. Then you will still have a second chance.â
Stay home for a year? You mean to lock me up for a year, right? Madeline looked at Benjamin calmly, She despised the blood that was flowing through her body.
19:00 Thu, Sep 12 Chapter 34 Madeline merely curved her lip. âI wonât do what you want. After faking for so long, youâve finally gotten your way, havenât you, Winslet?â
Madeline went straight upstairs after saying that.
Winslet put up an innocent facade once more. âMom, Dad, I told you Iâm giving up the spot. Now Maddie must hate me so much.
And itâs too late to change. I have already registered... What should we do now?â
âItâs okay. You deserve it. Donât worry about it. Madeline owes you one,â Layla comforted. âShe almost killed you. Itâs just a spot in the school. Itâs not a big deal.â
The other family members also agreed with Laylaâs words.
Winslet pretended to be comforted by them and acted as if she felt more relieved.
In reality, she had already decided in her heart to get into the school no matter what.
Madeline sat alone in the room with her arms wrapped around her knees. She was staring at the depressing highârise building outside her window.
She finally made up her mind.
She was going to cut ties with the Larson family.
âI canât change the fact that Iâm related to them by blood. But I can change it legally,â she thought.
Since yo you have backed me into a corner, I donât have to show mercy either. You forced me to this extent.â
Madeline took out her phone, and her eyes were full of tears. She calmly dialed the number she had memorized by heart.
