Chapter 19
His Nanny
Heather
I looked at Alex, my eyes widened.
He just said he wants me back. After he dumped my sister and their child and told her he didn't want the baby. Okay, he is really stupid if he thinks he can just say he wants me back and I'll come crawling back like some lovesick puppy. The thought alone made me gag.
I have Gabriele now, and my feelings toward him just get stronger and stronger with each day that passes. It scared me but I knew that I could trust him. Alex was just a bad mistake.
"What?! No!"He looked at me like he wasn't expecting that.
"Heather, please. I love you. I was stupid to fall for Nichola's tricks." I frowned, I heard the shuffling behind me from where Gabriele, who was now awake, stood up from the blanket and listened to the conversation from afar.
"You chose her, you broke my heart and now...now you expect me to just get back together with you after you did to her what you did to me. I hate you." Saying those words made me feel free, free from all the anger I had accumulated inside of me towards him. I think I understand now why at the wedding I was sad, perhaps it was not of missing him but rather missing the feelings I had towards him.
He looked at me dumbstruck, I felt the looming warmness beside me. Gabriele stood beside me wrapping his arms protectively around my waist. He smiled triumphantly at Alex.
"I think you should go, she's my girlfriend now." Alex gave me another strange look and turned to me but Gabriele stopped him. "You heard her go, don't come back here or so help me I'll make you pay for breaking her heart." He didn't speak and just walked away. Gabriele placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Lately it seems everybody is after you, first Tyler now Alex-they should know your mine, all mine." His dark brows furrowed and his eyes blazed in lust.
"Yours?"
"Mine, soon enough all mine." I rested my head on his chest, his heartbeat soothing my mind from all of the things that have happened in the last day. He held me tightly, and that's when I knew that things will never be the same. I'll never be just his nanny again, I'll never be just his friend. I didn't want to be just his friend anyways. I want so much more.
I looked up, he leaned down and kissed me sweetly. The kiss was brief but the amount of sexual tension building inside of us was overwhelming. Not yet. But I'm sure it was going to happen really soon since I could feel him stiffen as the kiss ended.
"I'm going to change and then I'll make breakfast." He nodded, he started cleaning up the takeaway food bags from last night. I left to shower, I changed into some dark wash jeans, and a plain long sleeved shirt. My hair was still partly wet after I dried it so I left it down. When I walked into the kitchen he was starting breakfast already.
"I would've made breakfast." His eyes shifted from the counter where he was busy chopping onions to me.
His eyes lingered for a moment.
"You were busy so I just started." He shifted his eyes back to the counter, I leaned over the counter to see what he was making. I helped him chop up some ingredients and mix the batter.
He was waiting for an omelet to cook when he turned to me.
"You have a little something..." he touched my shoulder. His fingers trailed to my neck and soon enough his lips followed. The same things we practiced yesterday ran through my mind.
"Mmh" he mumbled as he placed my hair away from my face and continued to kiss me. I pushed him back a little. He had a frustrated frown on his face, which was cute. I took my thumb and straightened the fold between his eyebrows.
"Remember, you were cooking breakfast."
"Oh, yes breakfast."
He continued to cook, I looked for my phone and found it near the bag. The bag with the black and red lacy underwear I bought.
"Uhm Gabriele?"I leaned out of the doorway.
"Yeah?"
"Do you like black and red?" He nodded.
"Yes, I do, my favorite cars are black and red." Oh wow, now my sexy underwear is being compared to a car.
"Why do you ask?"I shook my head innocently.
"No reason." He placed the omelets on the plates and then he walked to me.
"Tell me please." He gave me puppy dog eyes, also the same that Luca uses when he wants his way.
"Nope."
"That glint you have in your green eyes tell me that it's something about me."
"You sure have an ego." He rolled his eyes at me.
"I know you, Heather, more then you think I know you." I sighed, I'm not going to tell him since it should be a big surprise to him. He didn't ask any more questions about my black and red surprise. In silence we ate, he didn't have to fetch Luca until lunch time and his friends would've been home by then.
We had about a good 3 hours until he had to go and I had a class to go to.
"What are you doing today?" I asked over a bite of the omelet.
"I have to pick up Luca and then I have to get something from my office, I also have to show my face at my cousin's birthday party." He said contemplating his omelet with narrowed eyes,I didn't know exactly why he was doing that.
I continued to eat, he poked his omelet with the fork and again eyed it.
"Why are you doing that?" I asked while taking another bite.
"I don't think I want to eat it, I'm hungry but my appetite was lost."
"Lost?"
"Yes, I'd much rather be doing something else than eating." I choked on a bit of omelet, I coughed and unfortunately, the piece that was lodged in my throat came flying out and hit Gabriele in the face. Today was not my day.
I stared at the piece of omelet stuck to his cheek, he flicked it away and started laughing in an uncontrollable fit of laughter. I couldn't help but join in, we continued to laugh until Gabriele was wiping away a tear from his eyes.
"Oh my dear, you should've seen your face, I have a son and believe me this has happened more times than it's supposed to and food has landed on me more times than I can count." I turned a shade of red and turned my eyes back to my now ominous breakfast.
"What are you doing today?"I shrugged.
"I have class and since it's my official day off I'm going to try and figure out what the hell happened these past 24 hours."
"How about you join Luca and me at the party, I'd love to introduce you to some of my family."I shrugged, I wasn't feeling up to it, but if I'm going to left here on my own I'm sure I'm going to sit and watch endless amounts of series and eat myself into a coma after all of the drama that was dumped on me. First Nichola, then Alex. Thinking about it now makes me sure as hell that they're actually a perfect match. I hate both of them equally.
"Sounds nice." Gabriele left shortly after and I went to class, where I got another mountain of work. I didn't feel like it today since I need time to breathe and forget about the little things that continued to bug me relentlessly. All the things I've been feeling lately made my already sour mood turn into sorrow for myself.
I changed into something simple, jeans, a sweater, and flat shoes. I felt dull and drab. I grabbed the first book I could find and lost myself in a world of words until Gabriele knocked on my door. I opened up, Luca stood there expectantly.
"Where's your dad?" His smiled widened.
"He said I should come to get you, and..." He handed me a picture and candy.
"I drew this for you; grandma said I should share my sweets so I'm sharing it with you." His happy mood made me feel better.
"Come in, I'm going to put this next to the other one-it's very good buddy." I ruffled his hair, he plopped down on my couch waiting for me. In all manner, he was a miniature Gabriele, except for his eyes. I wouldn't mind having him as my son. This thought stopped me dead in my tracks.
Last night I was mentally freaking out because I was afraid if Gabriele and I get more serious that I wouldn't be a good person to look after him like a mother, as a nanny it was okay but if he's my own...not that I think we'll get that serious as in marriage.
I placed the picture next to the one of the girl with the balloon, each morning seeing this made me feel loved.
I took his hand as I locked the door with my handbag in the other hand. I knew Luca was a runner and if I gave him a chance he'd be bolting to the car without looking where he's going. I walked to Gabriele's car. He was waiting for us. He opened the door for me after strapping in Luca.
"Sorry I sent him up alone I had an urgent call but I watched him. He was so excited to give you the picture there was no waiting for me." Gabriele frowned and shook his head.
"I loved the picture." He studied my morbid face.
"What's wrong?" He started the engine.
"I..it's nothing."
"Daddy, is Danny going to be there?"
"I guess so, most of the family is going to be there."
Gabriele stopped at a traffic light, when it turned green he continued to drive, a car from the other side didn't stop. It rammed into us with full force without any hesitation. The car started twisting, flashes of white blurred my vision. I heard yelling and screaming but it was like I couldn't react, it just felt like floating in the abyss. I couldn't see anything but I could smell the gut-wrenching smell of blood, the screams became softer and the floating felt like I was falling.
I felt myself go limp and a few seconds later everything shifted from white to black.
