Chapter twenty three

His Mate: Prince Asher

The red sports car blocked Naomi's part a few meters from school and she frowned. She already knows who it belonged to. Just then, the black tinted glass of the driver's side lowered and she saw the handsome boy behind the steering wheel. "Get in," he said without looking at her.

"No thank you, I can manage," she replied, moving away from the car.

"Get in the car, Naomi, or I will make you," this time, Asher glanced at her and she gasped and that was because rather than midnight blue, his eyes were transparent brown.

Frowning, she sighed and walked around the car to get into the passenger's seat. She doesn't know why but she believed one hundred percent that he could make her get into the car and she would prefer to get in on her own than being carried. Now inside the cozy car, his masculine scent filled her senses and now being in an enclosed space with just him and his scent, she was able to pinpoint how he smelled like. His smell was a little rusty and also tantalizing like tangerine, however, there was another smell, a smell of woods and fire. She frowned, how could he have so many scents and most importantly, how could she pinpoint it all? She glanced at him as he drove. All the scents together made him appealing and she couldn't help but leaning a little closer to get a little bit more.

Asher glanced when he sensed the proximity of the girl next to him but only to be shocked to see her leaning towards him with her eyes closed as she inhaled and exhaled. "What are you doing?" he asked and her eyes snapped open and she rest back in her chair, her eyes on the windscreen. Asher frowned, wondering what she could possibly be doing. It can't be that she was sniffing him, right? Could it be that his Nightwalker scent was captivating her? If so then why can't he compel her?

Thinking to that, he cleared his throat and blinked, his eyes slightly red now as he asked, "tell me, Naomi, how did you see that accident?" he made sure his voice was soft and velvet, enough to sip into her mind and he glanced at her now, holding her gaze. He saw shock in her eyes and he almost rejoiced, finally, it worked.

Naomi opened her mouth to speak, her eyes not leaving his, "I don't understand."

Asher blinked and glanced back at the road, "don't understand what?" he asked, his voice so cold compared to the voice he just used on her now.

Naomi flinched at his tone and withdrew on her seat, glancing out the window. Seeing that, Asher sighed and closed his eyes to calm himself, in as much as he is angry that his power wasn't working on her, he wouldn't be getting anything from her if he was angry. "I'm sorry, what don't you understand?"

"It's nothing," Naomi said, still glancing outside the window. Asher sighed and continued driving, his thought was running around but he forced himself to stay focus. Getting to the last turn that would lead to her house, Naomi spoke up, "you can drop me here."

"Why, this is not your house," he responded.

"You don't know my house."

"Try me."

Naomi glanced at him, his words made her think fast and then she was frowning. "Have you been stalking me?"

"What?" Asher glanced at her.

"How would you know my house if you have not been stalking me, you creep."

"Hey, calm down," Asher said, clearing to the side of the road. He stared at her, "I got your location from the school register."

"That is stalking me."

"No, that is a friend wanting to know where his friend lives so that he can give her a ride."

"A friend?" Naomi raised an eyebrow. "You told me to mind my business earlier today, remember?"

"No, I only said you should talk about the party."

"That is telling me to mind my business indirectly."

Asher sighed and wiped his palm on his face, resting his head on the headrest of his seat. "You are different, Naomi, I am just trying to figure you out." He glanced at her, his eyes now midnight blue.

"I'm not the only one different," Naomi said, staring at him.

A slight frown appeared on his brows, "what do you mean?"

"You are different."

"Oh, care to elaborate?" he raised an eyebrow, a soft smile playing on his lips. He knew he was different but he wants to know how different does she know he is, and if she is anyway close to the truth. He found it slightly amusing and he was really interested to know what her theory is about him.

"Just today alone, I have noticed your eyes changes colors," she revealed.

The smile on Asher's face dropped immediately. "What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean. Today in the cafeteria, I noticed your eyes flash red and when you were telling me to get into the car, I noticed they were transparent brown. And then, in the car while you are asking me about the accident, they were red once more and now, they are blue. Why? Why is your eyes interchanging colors?"

Asher stared at her speechless for some seconds before he turned to the road. "I don't know what you are talking about." He changed the gear to drive and pulled back on the street.

"You know what I am talking about."

"No I don't," he insisted, stepping on the accelerator now.

If Naomi noticed how fast he was going, she didn't show it. "Yes you do. Why weren't you in school for the past five days? How were you able to get everyone in the cafeteria to start talking about your party just because you said so. And Justin? He didn't stay till the end of the party but now he is telling me that he did."

"Perhaps he did," Asher said with clenched teeth.

"No he did not and I should know because he ran out after me and I heard him calling for me in the woods."

"In the woods, what where you doing in the woods?" Asher glanced at her.

"Don't change the subject," she demanded and Asher parked the car. A quick glance at the windscreen, she realized that they were in front of her house but she didn't bother about that. "What did you do, Asher?"

"I asked you a question first. Answer mine and I will answer yours." Asher turned to her as he killed the engine. "How did you know about that accident?"

Naomi stared at him silently for some seconds but at the end, she opened the car door and got down. "Damn it, Naomi," Asher said, slamming his hand on the wheel before getting off after her. "Answer, Naomi." He said behind her as he followed her to the porch. "How did you know? And that Jeremy you talked about, what happened to him? And how did you know something would happen but didn't do anything? Why are you called you Psychic?"

At his last question, Naomi stopped in front of the door. After some seconds, she turned to him, "because that is what everyone calls me."

"Why?" Asher went to her, his voice going down to be softer. "Why Naomi, why are you called that?"

Naomi glanced up at him, "why does your eyes change colors," she asked softly and he could see the tears brimming in her beautiful hazel eyes as she tried to avoid his question.

"I will tell you if you tell me," he whispered, his fingers caressing her face and she surprised him by leaning into his touch with her eyes closed. He felt his heart missed a beat and sensed his earlier anger quickly dissipating and the power inside him calming down.

Naomi sighed, "because I always have dreams or visions, I don't know what to call it but it always happens. No matter how gruesome it was or light it could be, it will always happen." She opened her eyes to look at him, his eyes were midnight blue but it was glowing softly. Noami chuckled softly at that, "now your eyes is glowing blue light. I have seen it red and brown but I have never seen it glow."

Asher smiled softly. "It does that sometimes."

"Why?" she asked.

Asher licked his lips, his eyes not leaving hers but he said nothing.

"Why Asher, you said you will tell me if I tell you."

Asher nodded, "I did. But I can't just tell you." With his words, Naomi moved out of his touch and he quickly said, "I can only show you." And Naomi froze. "Hey," he reached and touched her shoulder but her eyes were a little ashen now. "Naomi?" he called softly, his second hand on her other shoulder as he shook her softly, "hey, you okay?"

The shadow figure was watching her, Naomi could see it watching them from the woods and then it was attacking and its attack was brutal. The silver fur wolf didn't show up like in her other visions but Asher was fighting it, his eyes glowing blue as he fought back aggressively. And that was it. The vision ended. She didn't know if Asher won or if the shadow figure won but all she knew was that Asher was shaking her and calling her name. She looked up at him and she saw it, the wolf with red eyes, it was staring at her but soon, the wolf disappeared and Asher was the one holding her and that was the time it felt like she really woke up. She had jumped from one vision to another under the same minute.
