Chapter 106
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Sophie finally received a call from Bea.
Bea had Colt drive over to pick Sophie up, and she , going with the flow, got into the car.
As soon as she was inside, Colt couldn't help but say, âMa'am, just soften your words a bit. Mr. Burke wonât divorce you."
Sophie closed her eyes and asked, âWhen did Bea go to our house?â
âIn the afternoon.â
Just as Sophie had guessed. Bea must have gone in the afternoon, stirred things up, and then called Sophie to come back when things had calmed down.
Bea was always authoritative, brooking no dissent. By this time, she must have already sent Nichole away.
The car stopped outside the Burke familyâs mansion, and the grand doors were wide open. Sophie walked in, where Marian stood respectfully aside, and Bea was sitting on the couch.
Only then did Sophie notice James kneeling on the floor, with no sign of Nichole left in the room.
Bea coldly asked, âIs everything packed?â
âYes, maâam,â Marian replied, pushing a suitcase forward. âThese all belong to Ms. Nichole.â
Bea inquired, âColt, how much of this was bought with Jamesâ money?â
Colt tremulously stepped forward and said, âMr. Burke has always covered Ms. Nicholes living expenses, so...â
Bea scoffed, âSo you mean to say my grandson bought all these for her?â
Colt didnât answer.
Bea then ordered Marian, âThrow them all out! Tell the dean that, from today onwards, our family will have nothing to do with Nichole. She's an adult now and doesnât need our help.â
âGrandma!â James frowned, âNichole is just a girl from a poor family. The tuition at Eastwood College is so high. How could she possibly earn enough to pay it?â

If she canât even manage that, all the years you spent nurturing her would be wasted!â Bea coldly continued, âMoreover, hasnât the Burke family invested enough in her over the years? If she canât prove her worth, the Burke family wonât support someone who just freeloads.â
Then, Bea looked at Sophie, her expression softening slightly. âSophie, come here, sit next to me.â
Sophie, with downcast eyes, sat beside Bea.
Bea patted Sophieâs hand and said, âI know you felt hurt this time, but divorce is a serious matter. For the sake of our familiesâ relations, we shouldnât speak of divorce lightly. Today, Iâll have James apologize to you, and I promise, nothing like this will happen again.â
Sophie glanced at James, who showed no sign of intending to apologize.
She slowly said, âGrandma, matters of the heart cannot be forced. Since James loves Nichole, a divorce might be the best choice for both of us.â
âNonsense, how could anyone from the Burke family ever marry a poor student?â
After saying this, Bea glared at James. âArenât you going to apologize to Sophie right now?â
James' brows tightly furrowed, and he remained silent.
Sophie sighed, âGrandma, donât be hard on James. If he doesnât want to apologize, let it be.â
At this, Bea grew even angrier, snatching a cane from the table and lashing it across Jamesâ back.
