Chapter 1356
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
"Iâm convinced Bea had a part to play, but without Mr. James nodding it through, how on earth could Bea have hurt Ruby so precisely and kept her confined at home so easily?â Sophie said slowly, âMr. James, you know better than anyone why all this happened. You're the head of the Burke family. If you had stood up for your wife, she might still be here today.â
With a sharp crack, Joseph lost his cool and slapped Sophie across the face. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Sophie shot Joseph a cold glare, and for a moment, Joseph was taken aback, seeing Rubyâs disdain and chill in her eyes.
âYouâre spouting nonsense, just nonsense! What do you know? Youâre just making it all up!â Joseph shouted, stepping back.
âIf itâs nonsense, Mr. James, why donât you just check online?â Sophie replied coolly. âIn Devonport, everyone knows the tale of the former head of Burke International and his wife, Ruby. A top actress who left the spotlight for her familyâhow did she spend those years in the mansion? No makeup, doing laundry and cooking, just a numb housewife, like a puppet, not even allowed to dance.â
Sophie eyed Joseph with a bit of mockery, âAre you going to pin all this on Bea too? A man who lets his mother treat his wife like that and does nothingâwell, heâs hardly a man. In the end, youâre the one who drove your wife to her death! Even if she had the chance to live again, sheâd regret marrying you!â
âYou!â Joseph yelled, raising his hand again, but just then, the door slammed open.
James stepped in, grabbing Josephâs hand, his voice cold, âHer wounds havenât healed yet.â
Seeing his son standing up for Sophie, Josephâs anger quickly subsided. Years ago, he had protected Rose the same way. But no matter what he did, she never smiled at him again.
Joseph lowered his hand, his demeanor turning icy. âJames, Iâve given her a day to rest, but that doesnât mean she can push my limits.â James didnât say a word, just stood in front of Sophie.
âTalk some sense into her. If she reveals the treasureâs location, Iâll let her go.â With that, Joseph left the room.
Once Joseph was gone, James turned to check on Sophieâs injuries. As he reached for her cheek, Sophie instinctively pulled away, turning her head lightly, leaving his hand hanging awkwardly in the air.
âDonât waste your time. You wonât get the treasureâs location out of me,â she said flatly.
âI know,â James replied, his voice low.

ï¤Chapter 782 Sophie didnât know where the treasure was. How could she possibly know its location? This was all a setup by Gordon. And Kiran was just one of the wild cards in the mix.
James stood up, âMake sure no one figures out you donât know where the treasure is, or youâll be of no use.â
