Chapter 175
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Sophie ceased her struggles and looked up to meet Colby's barely-there smirk.
"Come with me." Colby grasped Sophieâs hand, leading her towards a secluded hallway.
The makeup artist had already set everything up. Colby pressed Sophie into a chair, and as she watched Colbyâs exaggerated makeup in the mirror, she teased, âWith that makeup, you wouldnât need a mask for me to fail to recognize you.â
Colby slowly responded, âEven if you wore a mask and had even more dramatic makeup, Iâd still know it was you.â
Sophie blushed at his words.
The makeup artist quickly added a few touches to Sophieâs makeup, then pulled out the costume she had prepared earlierâa clown outfit as Sophie had described.
"Has James arrived yet?" Sophie inquired.
Colby's mood soured at the mention of James. He replied indifferently, âI donât know.â
âYou donât know?â Turning around in surprise, Sophie remarked, âIf he doesnât show up today, then this whole act would have been for nothing.â
âWhether he comes or not doesn't matter. As long as he knows that tonightâs masquerade ball is fully booked, thatâs enough.â
Sophie sensed a strong hint of jealousy in Colbyâs tone. âThatâs true...â
âBut you just want to provoke him, right?â
Sophie couldnât deny it, though she wasnât that childish.
âIf he comes and sees that Blake and I look nothing alike, he wonât suspect me anymore.â
She had gone to great lengths to craft Blake's identity. This time, she would wear flat shoes and don the clown costume to appear before James, dispelling any doubts he might have about her.
"Sophie? Sophie? Are you ready yet?" Jennaâs voice whispered from outside the door.
Sophie, now dressed as a clown, opened the door to see Jenna in a fabulous dress. Sophie nodded, âIâm ready.â
âJames is here. You better go out now.â

Dressed as a clown, Sophie stood out under the spotlight, throwing around small toys, creating a dazzling, laughter-filled atmosphere that peaked with the crowdâs cheers.
âHello everyone, Iâm your clown, and also the person in charge of the company, Blake.â Sophie stood at the center of the stage, her voice altered by a voice changer, sounding deep and powerful.
As she spoke, the crowd realized that the person who had been amusing them was actually the company's behind-the-scenes CEO.
James, dressed in a gothic dark ensemble, quickly noticed the scene. He wanted to take a photo, but his phone had been confiscated upon entering the night club, indicating that Blake had enforced strict confidentiality for this ball, including its contents.
Colt, observing from the side, commented, âMr. Burke, thatâs Blake. Looks just like a regular short guy, nothing special.â
James frowned, asking, âDoes he look familiar to you?â
âHe looks like a new face. I donât think weâve seen him before. Never heard of such a person around Devonport.â
Hearing this, James left Colt and walked towards the center of the stage.
Colt, unable to stop him in time, exclaimed in astonishment, âMr. Burke!â
