Chapter 30
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Today was Sophie's entrance exam, and within the CEO's office of Burke International, James glanced at the time on his computer and asked, âDid Sophie head out for her exam this morning?â
âShe left early in the morning. She should be in the examination hall by now.â
James nodded. âDid you talk to the dean?â
âI did, but...â
âBut what?â
âThe dean mentioned that the lady is sitting for the graduate entrance exams, so he felt it wouldnât be appropriate to interfere. Besides, he doubts sheâll pass.â
âGraduate exams?â
James had thought even entering as a freshman would be a stretch for Sophie. Had Sophie lost her mind attempting the graduate exams?
âLeave her to it,â James said coldly. She could embarrass herself if she must.
Meanwhile, Sophie had arrived at the exam venue. As she was the youngest one there by far, she naturally caught the examinersâ eyes more than once.
Many in the hall were nearing their thirties, seasoned professionals in finance, some of whom Sophie had seen on television, underscoring the academyâs stellar reputation in finance education.
At the same time, Nichole lingered deliberately in the corridor of the exam halls in the academic building.
Logically, the freshman admissions should be in this building, but she had checked several halls and hadnât spotted Sophie. Could it be that Sophie had backed out knowing the challenge?
Nichole breathed a sigh of relief. This would save her quite a bit of trouble.
âWhat are you doing here?â Krystal entered the building and saw Nichole wandering near the ground floor exam halls.
âI was just heading to Liberty Hall for class. Letâs go together.â
âLiberty Hall is also an examination center today; didnât you see the group message? Our class has been moved to Building Three.â
âIs that so?â
Nichole checked her phone and sure enough, Liberty Hall was reserved for the graduate exams today.
Each year, the intake for graduates was minimal. Now in her junior year, Nichole was the only one among her classmates preparing for the graduate exams, and her turn wouldnât come until next year.
Krystal suggested, âWhy donât we take a look? I heard this yearâs papers are tough. It might be good insight for you.â
âThat sounds good."
Since there wasnât much else on todayâs schedule, having Tina sign in for her would suffice.
âLetâs hurry then.â Krystal pulled Nichole towards Liberty Hall.
Nichole knew well what Krystal was really after. The pretense was to check out this yearâs graduate exam papers, but the real goal was to scope out potential wealthy bachelors.
After all, most of the students at this school came from affluent families, and many of those sitting for the finance graduate exam were successful professionals.
True enough, halfway there, Krystal excitedly said, âI heard Haroldâs also here. Probably a lot of people will come to watch. We might miss it if weâre late.â
Hearing this, Nichole couldnât help but be curious.
Haroldâs family, the Aldridges owned the largest banking corporation in Devonport. They were usually low-profile, but rumors had it that the Aldridge familyâs wealth could rebuild an entire Devonport.
Krystal looked around eagerly and suddenly exclaimed, âI think itâs over here!â
Following where Krystal pointed, Nichole saw a crowd gathered outside an exam hall, everyone peering inside.
âMake way! Make way!â
Krystal pulled Nichole through, and at the window just outside the exam hall, Nichole caught sight of Sophie sitting at the frontmost table.
