Chapter 47
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
"Because I am her husband."
Jamesâ gazes were dark and laced with a dangerously intense air.
At the mention of the word "husband," Harold stiffened completely.
James dropped his umbrella, took Sophie from Haroldâs arms, while Colt raised an umbrella, following closely behind James.
Only Harold remained frozen in place. Sophie was Jamesâ wife?
At the hospital, Sophie slowly woke up, the weather outside still dreary and rainy.
She vaguely remembered being cornered by Harold at the entrance of Liberty Hall, but what had happened after that?
Struggling, Sophie sat up and turned to see James asleep, resting his head on his hand.
"Ms. Sophie, youâre awake?" Colt entered, carrying a briefcase.
James opened his eyes and saw Sophie awake on the hospital bed.
Noticing the fatigue on Jamesâ face, Sophie asked, "Did you bring me to the hospital?"
James did not respond.
Colt handed him the laptop from his briefcase and said, "Ms. Sophie, Mr. Burke went to your school this morning to find you. You had fainted, and Mr.
Burke skipped his meetings to stay with you at the hospital."
"This doesnât concern you anymore. You can leave." Jamesâ tone was flat.
Sophie could tell James was upset. She retorted, "Why did you come to the school?"
"You are my wife, but I couldnât contact you. Where should I go to find you if not at the school?"
Sophie then remembered that she had hung up on James the day before. She said, "I wasnât feeling well last night, so..."
"So you hung up on me?"
Sophie didnât argue. That was indeed her fault.

Sophie frowned, "James, we agreed not to interfere with each other."
"Can you take care of yourself living alone?"
"I can."
"Is this taking good care of yourself?"
Sophie was at a loss for words, "I just tend to catch colds when the seasons change, and this time it was just worse."
"Thereâs no room for negotiation."
"James!"
"Sophie!" James said coldly, "Youâve learned to talk back now?"
"James, attending Eastwood College was my decision. Ours is a marriage of convenience, strictly speaking, a contractual marriage. I will act as a proper Mrs. Burke in public, but you can't interfere with me, or harm my interests."
"A contractual marriage?"
James narrowed his eyes dangerously. So this is how she viewed their marriage.
"Isnât it?"
From the beginning, she and James were nothing more than a couple in name only.
James took a deep breath, "Fine, you can live outside, but only during your busy academic periods. Normally, Iâll have Lee pick you up and bring you home. Itâs unsuitable for my wife to live outside. If you donât want grandmother to find out, I suggest you do as I say."
Sophie wanted to say more, but James cut her off with a cold command, "This is my final offer."
