Secret Desire: new beginnings
Secret Desire
We took off again, heading toward the canyon where seconds later we intercepted him. He was in his form. When he saw us, he winced and ran faster. He couldn't out run us, he never could. Kale grabbed him roughly by the thick fur of his neck. He whimpered.
"You should not be here!" Kale snapped. Nathan growled deep from his throat. Kale jostled him. "You are not in any position to give me attitude, Nathan!" Kale hissed, his eyes starting to turn black.
"Have you even comprehended the danger you put yourself in?" I growled at him now, standing over him.
He looked up at me, his golden eyes wide with a sort of guilt. He let out the tinest whine. Even as a vampire I was still a softy. I sighed, getting down to his level. I just had to bend slightly. He was a pretty big wolf, like Jason.
"Nathan..." I said quietly.
"Jamie..." Kale complained, instantly recognizing my understanding side.
I glanced up at him. Our eyes locked. Something in my eyes obviously made him sigh now. He let go of Nathan's fur and stood up, crossing his arms.
"How'd you get away from the others?" I asked, looking at Nathan again. "Did you trick them? Charm them?"
His fluffy tail wagged once in one smooth, snake-like motion. Kale made a sound above us. I glanced up as he rolled his eyes.
"Anya and Jason are going to be pissed." I said to both of them, standing up now. "Let's go." I ruffled the fur on Nathan's head.
"We should send him home." Kale muttered as Nathan moved on my other side, not wanting to be next to Kale.
I kept my hand in Nathan's fur as we headed back to the canyon. His smell, along witht the other shapshifters and Shane, used to bother me in a way. But since I love them all, I've gotten used to the musky, thick smell.
"We should let Jason and Anya decide that. He's not going back alone if that's what they decide though."
He looked at me the way he always did when he was trying to figure me out. He was studying me.
"You're not taking him back." It wasn't a question, it was a stern statement. I shurgged. "Jamie." He growled at me. I looked up at him surprised. It wasn't everyday he growled at me out of frustration.
"Kalsaban." I glared up at him.
Nathan made a snorting noise beside me as if he was trying to hold back a laugh, even in his form. Kale shot a glare at Nathan now. Nathan always cracked up when I said his full name.
"Twice in less then an hour, I think that's a new record." He murmured then looked at me again. "You're. Not. Taking. Him." He repeated a little slower this time but also kind of between his teeth.
I glanced down at Nathan then back at him. I didn't say anything. We just stared at eachother, still walking at an even pace toward the canyon. Our staring contest lasted all the way to the mouth of the canyon.
"Nathan Jay! What the hell are you doing here?!" Jason's voice hissed out.
All three of us looked at him. Anya's eyes were wide as if she couldn't believe he was actually in front of her right now. I nudged Nathan toward them. He was reluctant to move.
"He's not supposed to be here." Anya stated under her breath.
"I know. He knows." I shook my head. "I'm not sure how he did it, but he's here now. Don't be too hard on him."
Jason snapped his fingers, making Nathan sulk over to him. His ears were back and tail was drooping.
"You are in huge trouble!" Jason growled at him, grabbing his neck the way Kale had earlier, only slightly more gentle. Nathan winced but didn't whine. Jason pulled on him so he'd follow. Anya stared after them then turned to us.
"They could have ambushed him..." Her voice was almost hysterical. I moved toward her, putting my arms around her. She was still much taller then me so my arms went around her mid-section.
"He's here now. He's safe." I comforted her.
"He's lucky." Kale said behind me. I pulled away from Anya, nodding.
"Very lucky." I agreed. "You should go. Make sure Jason doesn't do permanent damage."
She sighed. "You're right." She spun around but then turned back toward us. "I'm greatful you two were the ones to find him and not..." Her voice trailed off.
"We wouldn't let anything happen to him." Kale shrugged, like it was no big deal.
She nodded then finally went back to her husband and son. I was staring after her now.
"That boy causes more trouble then necessary." Kale shook his head beside me.
I just nodded, absent mindedly leaning against him. He put his arm around me, kissing my hair.
"Huh, it worked." He said off subject.
I glanced up at him. "What worked?"
"I'm calmer now thanks to you and our run."
"Told you." I smirked at him. He smirked right back at me, kissing me once again softly on the lips. It never gets old.
By the time it was time for the gathering, Kale and I were more relaxed then anyone else. The packs were all tense because of Roy's clan and Roy's clan were all tense because they had to force themselves to resist the mut blood.
The inside of the tent was huge. Mainly because it was completely empty besides the random red-velvet benches along the walls. No one sat down. We just gathered in a large circle. Jacob waved at us from across the tent, Melissa was at his side. I waved back. Kale just nodded toward him.
Jacob turned his attention back to Melissa when she asked him a question about if he would ever consider converting to mut blood. My body tensed when I heard her question. It didn't help much that Shane was standing on the other side of Jake. Shane looked uneasy. Jacob turned to Shane, placing his hand on his broad shoulder.
"Converting to mut blood means feeding off of some of my good friends and my best friend here, so no, I would never even consider it." He smiled at Shane. Shane relaxed, smiling back. My body relaxed at his answer. Jacob may be smitten but at least he still remembers who he is.
Movement at the enterance of the tent caught my attention now. Nathan came in. He was in his human form, wearing a pair of Jason's sweatpants. He looked like he had just gotten done being yelled at. Anya and Jason stood on either side of him, somewhat protectively.
Anabelle and William came in, crossed the tent and stood beside Kale. William turned to Kale, nudging him with his elbow. Jacob and Shane glanced at eachother. Shane gestured over to us. Jake looked at Melissa, glanced at us, my eyes catching his. He looked back at Melissa and apologized to her. She nodded understanding then watched them both glide over to us. They were followed by Jason, Anya and Nathan. It made me feel all fluttery seeing my family gather at our sides.
By the time Roy came waltzing in, he had nowhere to stand except for between one of Maverick and Jason's pack members. It was kind of sad how none of his clan members saved him a spot, or even opened a spot for him. Roy looked irritated as he stepped between the two shapeshifters. Both of them tensed slightly. Roy cleared his throat.
"Well, Mr. and Mrs. Vandera, everyone is here..." He gestured around the room. "So fill us all in." He shrugged now. Kale shrugged back.
"We just need everyone's help." He murmured.
Roy's clan members glanced at eachother. There red eyes still made me shutter.
"Why should we help? What do we get out of it?" Kevin asked, frowning.
"Don't be so bitter, Kevin." Anabelle hissed at him.
Stephanie and some other of Roy's clan growled at her. Zero's clan growled back at them as William pulled Anabelle loser to him. Nathan was growling very deeply as Jason held fast to him.
"Enough!" Kale growled at his clan in his Zero voice which I hadn't heard in awhile. For some reason it made me tense. The clan's growling instantly dimmed down. I looked over at Roy but he said nothing to his still snarling clan.
"Be civil for once in your lives!" Maverick suddenly bellowed out at Roy's clan.
This started a whole new round of growling. Roy's clan growled and sneered louder at Maverick. Maverick's pack growled back, looking as though they would change forms. Jason's pack picked up on the growling, then both clans did too. Before anyone from our family could join in, besides Nathan, I stepping out into the circle of vampires and shapeshifters. Kale grabbed my wrist but didn't stop me. He followed, letting me go when I got directly in the center. He didn't stand beside me but he stood close behind and to the side of me.
"What is wrong with you people?!" I snapped, somehow silencing everyone.
"We're not peo--" Jared began to murmur but Kale shot a death glare in his direction, instantly silencing his correction.
"Sure we all have our differences; some of us have different tastes then others, some of us are pale or dark or have red eyes, black eyes, hazel, golden or blue eyes--"
"Green eyes." Kale mock-coughed behind me. I glanced at him, shooting him a smile then turned back to the others again.
"We're even of different species but it doesn't matter. In the end, we all have somethings in common..." I continued.
"Please, enlighten us." One of Roy's clan members said condescendingly. I cocked my eyebrow at his challenge.
"There is at least one person in this room, that is not of your species or of your own clan or pack that you admire." I pointed at him. He looked at me as if stunned.
"Wh-what? No! I...well...h-how did you know that?" He muttered, glancing around nervously. His eyes lingered on Shane momentarily.
"Because I'm not just talking about you, I'm talking about everyone in this circle." I responded. There was silence throughout the tent. I could hear the muffled murmmering of the pack's hearts louder then usual, it was so quiet.
"Deep down we all truly care about eachother. We can all get along." I still continued.
"Impossible." Somebody else from his clan shook his head. Again, my eyebrow shot up as I looked into his crimson eyes.
"There is a werewolf and a vampire in this room that are best friends. There is a vampire, once hated by many, who is adored by those who hated her at one point. There is a Stray, that stayed in one place for three years because he loved that vampire who was once hated. There is a cub who in the end, united us all as a whole, as a family." I gestured to my family behind me. Kale caught my hand, moving beside me now.
"And a human girl is the one that made all of that possible." He added to the list of all the possible impossibilities.
"Nothing is impossible. Especially in this world, I learned that a long time ago. So let's put our differences aside because this pack of werewolves that are charging our way are going to be brutal, because they're out for revenge." I finished.
More silence. But then Melissa spoke up.
"I'm in. Weither or not the rest of you are, doesn't matter to me." She stepped away from her clan.
They glanced at eachother then looked at Roy who had his arms crossed the whole time. He nodded at them. One by one they stepped beside Melissa. Kevin rolled his eyes but did the same.
"Fine. You'll all be crushed without our help anyways." He muttered.
Kale glowered at him. I heard a low, angry, hurt growl come from Anabelle behind us. I sighed, becoming increasingly irritated with Kevin's consuming bitterness. We spent the next few hours developing a battle plan. At the end of the gathering we were all on the same page. Everyone went their seperate ways now. Jason turned to Nathan as everyone left.
"Get back to the tent. Stay there." He growled sternly, sounding like a dad more then ever.
"But Jason--"
"Excuse me?!" Jason grabbed his son's ear.
"Dad! I can help! Kale said so." He pouted.
"When the time comes, Nathan Jay. But until then you are grounded."
We all mutually agreed that it was too much of a risk to send him back home now. But I'm pretty sure none of us were thrilled about the descision.
"I'll take him to your tent." I offered, moving closer to them. "There's alot of tension between you three."
Which was true. Anya was abnormally quiet, she didn't even flinch when Jason grabbed his ear. In any normal circumstance she would have scolded Jason for it.
"Alright." Anya agreed, kissing Nathan on the forehead.
"I'm right behind you sweetheart." Kale said, turning to the rest of our family, including Melissa who was back at Jacob's side.
The entire tent was empty now besides all of us. None of them spoke, they all just looked at eachother, Melissa was starting to look uncomfortable. I sighed, pulling Nathan out of the tent and leading him to the one Roy actually let them stay in. I hadn't actually had the chance to talk to Nathan yet. But before I could say anything he spoke up;
"So you said they're out for revenge, right?" He asked, looking eager.
"Right." I nodded hesitantly.
"But you didn't go into any specifics about it. It's strange, their scent is terribly familiar. Were they part of the family once? And--"
"Whoa! Nathan, slow down. I think your parents should tell you the specifics--"
"But, wasn't it your fault?" He interrupted me now.
"What?!" I stopped walking, he turned to me.
"Well, maybe that's not the right word; Dad said everybody was trying to protect you. He never said why." He said quickly. I felt myself wince.
"It's complicated stuff. It confuses me sometimes when I think about it. Girls like Emily...When werewolves don't get their way, they get viscious." I explained.
"Shane doesn't have a bad temper." He pointed out as we continued to walk now. I laughed.
"Shane is rare. I was lucky to have met a werewolf as sweet as him. We're all lucky."
"So it is just because we know a werewolf that their scent is so familiar?"
I shook my head as he held the tent door open for me.
"He used to be their pack leader."
"What?" He gasped. I looked at him and frowned.
"You know, you shouldn't even be here Nathan. I'm going to leave the rest to Anya and Jason."
"But Jamie--" He whined in his ten year old way.
"Nope. I'm not telling you anything else." I told him stubbornly.
He pouted. I crossed my arms. We were still glowering at eachother when Kale came in.
"Hey, what are you picking on Jamie for?" He was instantly defensive as he moved over to me in a flash, winding his arm around my waist.
"What? I am not picking on her!" Nathan continued to pout.
Kale and I burst out laughing. He looked so much like his natural age when he did that, it cracked us both up...
~#~#~#~#~#~#
A couple days actually passed. Emily's pack had gotten closer in that first night, but their scent stayed in one place now. They didn't back off but they didn't continue forward either.
"I have no idea what they're doing." Shane shook his head.
The fire cracked in the self made pit as we sat in the back of the canyon. The packs had to be in the canyon while we waited. We weren't about to go attacking them. So they felt most comfortable with a fire going. When it was, Roy's clan stayed away for some reason.
Shane had just been out checking the perimeter around the canyon. He didn't go alone of course but they all only went as far as they assumed safe. Which as of now, was pretty far. Now Kale, the clans, Jason and Maverick's packs were out on a larger scale scouting the perimeter.
This left me (which Kale stubbornly didn't let me go), Shane, Jacob, Nathan, Anya, Melissa, a few others from Roy's clan who were watching the canyon enterance, Anabelle and William.
"They're waiting." Melissa offered.
"But for what?" Shane murmured.
Jake shook his head. "Whatever there plan is, it's not good."
"Obviously. This whole situation isn't good." William added.
Everyone became quiet again.
"Why can't we just do it now?" Nathan asked impatiently. "Why do we have to wait for them?"
"Because if they don't attack us, then there will be no point in fighting." I told him instantly. Nathan looked at everyone pleadingly.
"Jamie calls the shots, Nathan. She knows what she's talking about." Anabelle said when he looked at her.
He growled, frustrated, falling back into the desert canyon sand. Again, there was silence. I only heard the crackling of the fire and Shane, Anya and Nathan's hearts beating. The silence lasted long enough for my mind to wander.
I was gazing at Jacob and Melissa. She was leaning against him, his arm comfortably around her. They were falling fast and hard for eachother. I could see it in his eyes as he gazed down at her, obsorbing every detail. It almost reminded me of the way Kale looks at me. Kale...He's been gone for an hour now. I missed him so much it ached. I couldn't help the sigh that came out of me.
"What's wrong with you?" Nathan asked, looking up at the stars as he layed on his back. He looked so calm.
"Kale's been gone for over an hour." Anabelle explained, leaning against William.
"Ohh right. I forgot you guys have anxiety attacks when you're away from eachother for too long." He said lifting his hand toward the sky, stretching his fingers out.
"We don't have anxiety attacks..." I rolled my eyes at him.
Shane snickered beside me. I glared at him. He shrugged, throwing his arm around my shoulder and messing up my hair playfully. I didn't try to pull away, I just winced under his hand in my hair. His warm body against my cool one made me feel comfortable.
"We don't." I muttered, glancing up at him.
"Whatever you say, Jamie." Shane and Jacob spoke in unison.
Of course I was used to this by now, but Melissa wasn't. She glanced at both of them amazed, then at me. I just smiled at her and leaned back under Shane's arm. Shane's heart began to thud a little louder but it did that often when I touched him. As usual, I ignored the faster pace of his heartbeat against his chest. And okay, so maybe I did have some type of anxiety when Kale was gone. I couldn't help it. I mean, I love him more then anything. He is my everything. Also, the fact that our bond is still as strong as ever from him turning me has a lot to do with it too.
"I think you have abandonment issues." Nathan murmured.
"Abandonment issues?!" I sat up slightly, glaring down at Nathan again. He sat up now, his hair was tossled and he looked back up at me in a tired "innocent" sort of way.
"Nathan," Anya sighed. "Quit picking on Jamie."
Anya understood better then anyone. Her and Jason had been together longer then any of us and she still misses him terribly like I do with Kale and vice versa. Only, Anya just gets really quiet sometimes when they're apart. Usually she's good at hiding just how much she misses him. I was still learning how to hide it. Nathan murmured under his breath then stood up, stretching out his entire body, which made cracking and popping sounds. Anabelle hopped up, pulling William up with her.
"Let's take a run, Nathan." Anabelle suggested. He looked at her in the middle of cracking his back. His eyes were suddenly wild.
"Just us?" He asked, hopeful. Anabelle laughed.
"You and me and William, little boy." She teased. Nathan sighed but agreed.
"Alright. I could use a run."
"Shane will go with you..." I nudged Shane with my shoulder.
It was a hard enough nudge to jostle him away from me a little bit. I looked up at him meaningfully. He looked back at me and nodded, understanding why I was suggesting he go with them. He stood now and as they began to head toward the front of the canyon, I grabbed Anabelles arm.
"Thanks." I smiled at her. She grinned back.
"No problem. He obviously needs to run off some of his energy." She looked at Anya as I let her arm go. "We'll keep him safe." She promised.
"I know you will." Anya nodded at her. Then Anabelle began to walk away.
"IfâIf you run into Kale, tell him to hurry up!" I called after her. She let out an amused laugh.
"Will do!"
The only reason I didn't just call him was because he turned off his phone, like they all did before they left. Well he didn't want to turn it off but I forced him to. I didn't want to risk them being heard. Even though Emily's pack could hear for miles. I'm not sure, I think it was just a feeling I had.
"He bet them in an arm wrestling match." Anya suddenly said, shaking her head.
"What?" I asked. Jacob looked at her curiously too. I was the one she looked at though.
"Nathan bet that if he could beat them both at the same time, they had to let him go. They didn't think he could, so they agreed. They lost and before they could stop him, he took off."
The two watching Nathan showed up a few hours after he did. This was the first time I heard of how he got away from them.
"He's reckless." I muttered. She nodded but also had a smile on her face.
"Just like Jason when he was so young."
"And just like Kale is now." Jacob pointed out.
"True." Anya laughed. I giggled because he was right.
"How long have you and Kale been together." Melissa interrupted our amusement.
"11 years." I answered with a smile.
"And you were human?"
I nodded. Jacob was looking at me now, seeming to be lost in his head at the moment.
"Did he really turn you out of love?" She looked almost anxious. Jacob shook himself out of his thoughts now.
"That was one of the reasons." He shrugged.
"He didn't want to, really. He fought against it for a long time." Anya added now.
"Why?" Melissa frowned for a moment.
"Because he loves her. He didn't want to cause her pain, he didn't want her to be like us. But in the event of certain things happening, he had to give up in the end." Jacob explained.
"Did he used to look at her the way he does now? When she was human?" She stopped asking me and just started asking the others since I wasn't even the one answering now.
"He's been looking at her the same way since they met. I think even if she would have been a werewolf, he would have fell for her." Jacob winked at me.
I shook my head then turned my gaze toward the fire. Would Kale really love me if I was a werewolf? It was a strange thought but I had no doubt he would. It probably would have taken a little longer to happen though.
My mind continued to wander, then with a sudden jolt the scent of Emily's pack became stronger. They were headed into the canyon. We were all quick to jump up. I heard the distant snarling of Roy's clan. Kale, Jason and those who had been checking out the perimeter's scent was following quickly behind them. Nathan, William, Anabelle and Shane were quick to show up at their flanks. This was it. We were obviously prepared but I was still tense. It all came down to fighting again. Someone was going to get hurt and I wasn't happy about it.
"Don't attack first." I reminded everyone as we stood just at the enterance.
Roy's entire clan was terribly tense. Anya and Jacob were standing on either side of me. No time past at all and the pack was standing before us. Emily and the others all looked the same and angry as usual. As soon as Emily saw me she sneered. There were new faces in the pack, faces that didn't look to sure about what Emily was doing, picking a fight with us. But they would stand by her side either way. I was sure of it. The familiar faces, Ivan, Zane and the others looked even more bitter then they had ten years ago.
"Don't you guys have anything better to do?" I growled as if I had no control of what I said.
The others tensed around me. Emily sneered a little more. She glanced at her brothers, who nodded at her as if encouraginly. She rolled her eyes then looked at me again.
"You caused us alot of trouble in the past." She hissed between her teeth. "But despite that, we're not here to cause trouble..." She murmured.
"Sure you're not." Jacob growled.
"We..." Emily let out a frustrated grunt. "We need your help..."
"What?!" I gasped, taken by surprise. Of course I wasn't expecting that.
"Well, it's more like a favor." Ivan shrugged.
"A favor from Shane." Zane added. I stared at Emily, couldn't take my eyes off of her.
"What?" Anya and Jacob let out in unisoned confusion.
Very suddenly, the others showed up. Kale was standing between me and the pack now.
"What kind of game is this?" Shane's voice hissed. He was standing beside Kale. None of us expected this. No one knew what to do. Jason and Maverick's packs had already taken their true forms, their ears were back.
"It's not a game!" Emily snapped. "We truly need your help, Shane." She then pleaded.
"Just hear us out and we'll leave." Milo was speaking now.
There was a silence for a long time. I pushed my way between Kale and Shane. Kale caught my hand.
"If this is some kind of trick..." He threatened, looking down at me for a moment then back at the pack.
"It's not." Emily interrupted him in a timid voice. "One of our brother packs needs our help. They're at war with some clans." She explained. All I could think is how it never ends.
"Where?" Shane asked. It scared me how interested he sounded. I stared up at him.
"Europe. We'd rather not say the exact location in front of these clans." Emily murmured.
"Then how do you expect us to help you?" Kale snapped. Emily glowered at him.
"We said we need Shane's help. Not yours." Dane snapped back. More silence. I watched Shane.
"I'll make you a deal," He finally answered. I tensed at his words. The pack in front of us waited. "Keep the peace between you, these clans, packs and my family, and I'll join you. Not as a pack member, but only as someone who is helping some old friends."
Emily's pack members all looked at her. She stood up a little taller. Her eyes wandered over us, before looking at me and holding my gaze. Her lip twitched into an almost snarl again. She ripped her eyes away, looking back at Shane. He had followed her gaze and took hold of my other hand.
"If that's what you want, then we'll abide by your conditions..." She agreed after a long moment. "We'll be waiting for you just outside of this...canyon...Don't take too long." She added, then they just walked away, leaving us all slightly confused and stunned. It felt like eternity before it finally processed.
"Shane," I breathed, turning to him. "You're going with them." I stated with a pained realization.
"That was all they wanted?!" Kevin growled behind us. "We're not fighting?!"
"Kevin!" Anabelle hissed. He muttered under his breath, annoyed.
"Things are changing, Jamie. I need to help them."
"But Europe is very far away." I continued to state. He smiled at me.
"Don't do this to us." Jacob pleaded, standing before us. Melissa was surprisingly not at his side. Shane turned to him.
"You two make it sound like I'm betraying you, or leaving for good, or you'll die without me." He shook his head.
"We will die without you." Jacob muttered.
"No, you won't." Shane let out a slight laugh. "You'll be fine." He promised.
He looked back and fourth between me and Jake. It hit me that he was really going. He was serious. No more thinking, I couldn't bare it. I let go of Kale's hand and threw my arms around Shane. I heard myself let out a sort of whimpered cry. He pressed his hand into my hair.
"I love you, you know that?" He murmured softly. I let him say it, Kale let him say it.
"I love you too, Shane." I almost let out a cry. "Don't stay away too long. We all love you. We're all going to miss you."
Jacob then came over, putting his arms around both of us.
"I don't know what I'm going to do without you." Jacob's voice cracked. It took a long time for Shane to respond.
"I won't stay away long." He promised. His voice was deep and thick.
At the same time, we all took a step back, gazing at eachother. I was the first to crack a smile. They both did the same. We instantly knew it was going to be okay. By this time, the packs had changed back to their human forms. Shane said his goodbye to them.
"I was hoping for a fight." Nathan pouted. Shane laughed.
"We got lucky, kid. That's all I can say."
Nathan shrugged.
"Keep yourself safe." Jason told him.
"I have no doubt he will." Kale added. Shane nodded.
"I'll come back alive and well, no problem."
We all knew he would. After promising to keep in touch until he finally did return to our family again, he was walking away from us and it felt like it was happening much too soon. As he walked away the canyon began to feel empty. It made me sad. I looked over at Jake, who stared after Shane. His jaw was tense like he was holding it all inside.
"Jacob..." I breathed at him.
"I'm fine." He instantly said, then looked at me. "It's fine. We'll be fine." He was trying to convince himself I think. All the while his face was getting distorted into pain.
I took his hand, squeezing it. But before I could do much else, Melissa was there comforting him. He hid his face into her hair. Shane's words suddenly made sense; things are changing, he had said. I realized that him going away for awhile, might be good for him, even as sad as it made all of us. Kale grabbed my arm, turning me toward him.
"That was unexpected." He said quietly.
I nodded. He pulled me closer to him. By this time, everyone had left the enterance of the canyon where we now stood alone. I could hear alot of relaxed talking in the distance. For the most part, everyone was relieved that we didn't have to fight the werewolves.
"Are you going to be OK?" He asked in my ear.
I looked up at him then around us, realizing very suddenly that our entire family, well, almost our entire family, stood close by. Melissa was comforting Jacob, Anya and Jason were talking with William and Anabelle as Nathan stood beside Anabelle, staring at her adoringly. Despite what Shane believes, there are just somethings that never change.
"Yeah." I nodded again. "I'm going to be just fine."
He smiled down at me handsomly, kissing my forehead.
"Then let's go home." He suggested.
"Good idea." Jason's voice spoke out before I could.
We looked over at them, they were right in front of us now.
"But you two look like you could use something to drink first." William pointed out.
"Probably." Kale shrugged.
"Wouldn't doubt it." I agreed. Kale and I looked at eachother.
"We'll see you guys at Jason and Anya's later." Kale glanced at all of them. Jacob and Melissa had joined our little circle now.
"Sure thing." Jason nodded.
"Try not to be late this time, right dolcetto?" Anya scolded us.
"Will do." I nodded, puffing out my chest determined to make sure we aren't late as usual.
Kale looked at me again, giving me a quick, deep, loving kiss on the lips then spun around and instantly took off running. "Cheater!" I called after him, taking off and hearing his beautiful, amused laugh echoe across the canyon.
"And look in the mirror this time, Jamie! Your hair is always wild and it just makes what you two do before you show up that much more obvious!" Anabelle called after us.
Our family was now in the distance when they burst out laughing. I was at Kale's side. We both were trying hard to get past eachother as we laughed. He moved toward me, pressing his lips against mine again while we ran. It was an even longer, deeper kiss then it had been when we were standing still. He pulled away finally, I rolled my eyes at him.
"Show off." I teased.
"No," He laughed. "I just couldn't help myself, that's all." He looked at me carefully. "If I win..." He began. I already knew what he was going to say.
"Sure, you can have me, if you win..." I teased again.
He smiled, then we both picked up our speed, taking off even faster. Both of us were eager to have one another. We didn't really care who the winner would actually be. Sure, we had our family. We loved our family. And no matter how far away any of them were from us, they would always be apart of those we adored most. But at the end of the day, everything always came down to just me and Kale; Laughing with eachother, loving eachother and sending eachother's frozen, dead hearts flying back to life.
It never gets old...

I know I get all teary eyed everytime I read it, but that might just be me since I spent two years with these characters and have a strong connection with them. haha. or just let me know what you thought about the story in general
Thanks for reading, voting, commenting and fanning. It means alot to me :)
