The Temporary Wife: Chapter 39
The Temporary Wife: Luca and Valentina’s Story
I stare down at the dance floor from the glass-encased platform in Hunterâs office, Ares and Xavier by my side.
Xavier glances at his brother in annoyance, but Hunter merely shakes his head. âDonât look at me,â he groans. âI called you guys the second they walked into my club, and security has been keeping an eye on them all night. I had nothing to do with this.â
I frown at Xavier, surprised by his anger. Why is he so annoyed that the girls are out clubbing? He catches me looking and raises his brows. âWhat?â he snaps. âThey ruined poker night. Donât tell me they didnât know you two would come here if you found out. I bet Sierra came here because she knows my brother owns this place. Sheâs no doubt trying to get on my damn nerves again.â
I ignore him and watch as Valentina, Sierra and Raven dance together, the three of them laughing in such a carefree manner that it brings a smile to my lips. When is the last time I saw Valentina laugh that way? I donât think she ever has â not around me.
Ares runs a hand through his hair and groans before heading to the door, clearly intent on taking his wife home, but I place my hand on his arm and stop him in place. âLet them be,â I tell him, my voice soft. âThey look like theyâre having fun.â
My eyes trail back toward my wife, my heart overflowing with an emotion I canât quite decipher. It feels like heartache and regret, mixed with a tinge of jealousy. I wish I couldâve made her laugh like that.
I never wondered how much she mustâve missed out on by working for me. I never gave her a chance to have a social life, because she was always on call. She spent her twenties working long hours with me, never once taking a real break. Even her holidays were spent with her family.
I suppose thatâs why she quit her job so suddenly. Somehow, I didnât truly understand it then, but I see it now. Itâs in the way she laughs, the way she twirls on the dance floor and leans into my sister. She finally gathered the courage to choose herself, and I clipped her wings the first chance I got.
A chill runs down my spine when I see a man approach my wife. He speaks to the security guard near them, and much to my fucking annoyance, heâs let through. The second his hand wraps around Valentinaâs waist, Iâm out the door, my blood boiling.
It only took a split-second for me to realize that she knows this guy, and that look in her eyes told me everything I need to know. She may have spent nearly every second with me at work, but she clearly made time for whoever the fuck that dude is. They have history, and Iâm going to make sure he stays in the past.
Heâs got his hand wrapped around my wifeâs wrist as I walk up to them, and I nearly see fucking red. âHow about you take your fucking hands off her before you lose them altogether?â I snap, yanking his hand away.
My arm wraps around Valentinaâs waist, and I pull her into me. Seconds later, security catches on and escorts the guy she was with away. Valentinaâs arms might be wrapped around my neck, but her eyes are on that manâs back as he walks away.
âValentina,â I growl. âWho the fuck was that?â
She looks back at me, clearly flustered and no doubt a little drunk. âNo one,â she says, before forcing one of those dreadful smiles onto her face. Why is it that I always get these fake smiles, but Sierra and Raven get genuine laughter?
âIt didnât look like nothing.â
She looks up at me with such vulnerability in her eyes as she tightens her grip on me, her body pressed flush against mine. âLuca, itâs fine. Itâs nothing,â she reassures me.
âWeâre going home,â I tell her before reaching for her and lifting her into my arms.
She gasps and looks around. âWhat about Sierra and Raven?â
âAres will take them home,â I tell her as I carry her straight to the car.
Valentina is quiet as the divider between our driver and us rises, giving us some privacy. She glances at me with an expression that makes my jealousy boil over. She looks haunted and heartbroken, and I have no doubt the fucker she was just with is the cause of it. Is he the reason she told me she didnât want love? Is he the reason she insists on ending our marriage in three years, no matter what?
âWho is he?â I ask, my voice soft. Iâve never seen her look at a man that way. Sheâs never looked at me that way.
âLuca,â she murmurs as she turns toward me. In one swift move, I pull her onto my lap, her short dress riding up all the way to her hips. She looks at me like Iâm all she can see, as though the man that had her looking so heartbroken ceases to exist when Iâve got my arms wrapped around her. I want nothing more than for that to be true, but I know it canât be.
My hands wrap around her waist, and she inhales shakily as the tips of her fingers trail up my chest. Her fingers glide over the back of my neck as she pulls me in for a kiss, and my resolve wavers. I should pull away and continue questioning her, but she makes me so fucking weak. Sheâs doing this on purpose, no doubt. Itâs a trap, but Iâm willing prey.
I groan when I feel her soft tongue brush against mine, her touch slow yet urgent. She tugs at my jacket, and I shrug out of it before sliding my hands up her thighs and underneath her dress.
âValentina,â I groan. âAnswer the fucking question.â
She leans back a little to look at me, the lust in her eyes making way for despondency. She lifts her hand and brushes her fingers over my cheek, a weak smile on her lips. âHeâs the reason youâll never have to worry about me falling in love with you.â
My stomach drops as I tear my gaze away from her, longing and heartache warring for dominance. It never even occurred to me that the heart I pretended not to want was always out of my reach anyway. âWhy are you doing this to me?â I whisper. âWhy do you drive me fucking crazy at every turn? Do you enjoy seeing me suffer? Is this payback?â
She cups my face, her thumb brushing over my lips for a moment before she leans in and kisses me hungrily, as though sheâs trying to erase the words I shouldâve left unspoken. Itâs so easy to lose myself in her, but if I do, Iâll never recover the parts of me that sheâs taking.
I pull her closer and kiss her deeply, taking my time to tease her until Iâve got her writhing in my lap, her hips betraying her desire. âLuca,â she moans against my lips. Iâll never tire of hearing her moan my name. Itâs such a fucking rush. Nothing comes close to it.
I canât be the only one who feels this way. I canât be the only one falling. âValentina,â I whisper, needing more of her than sheâs willing to give me. âLook at me.â
Her breathing is uneven as she lifts her face, soft pants escaping her beautiful lips as she reaches for my shirt. âGood girl,â I whisper. âI donât want you looking at anyone but me, you hear me? Donât you fucking dare even think about anyone but me.â
She nods, a hint of vulnerability shining through. âOnly you, Luca,â she promises me. My hand disappears between her legs, and a smile makes its way onto my lips when I realize sheâs already wet. This is all I need. That look in her eyes⦠as though I fill her mind to the brim, pushing out every other thought.
My wife unbuttons my suit pants and grabs my cock, her eyes falling closed for a moment as a wicked smile lights up her face. âDo you want it?â I ask her, my voice low.
She nods at me, her gaze pleading, and I canât help but smirk. âThen ride me, baby. Take what you want. Iâm all yours, Valentina.â
Her expression morphs into something that looks like a whole lot more than lust, and it makes my heart race in a way it never has before. Our eyes lock as she sinks down on me slowly, taking all of me. âYeah,â I groan. âJust like that, baby. Take your husbandâs cock, just like that.â
She rides me slowly, my hand wrapped in her hair, soft moans escaping her lips. Sheâs a fucking sight to behold, and sheâs all mine.
I just need to make sure she never forgets it.
