Chapter 27

Unfortunate Friends 1: My Best Frenemy

Georgina

After deciding that the booster seats for his little sisters won’t fit in my little Bug, AJ reluctantly hands over his car keys to me as well as his house keys.

I settle myself into the driver’s seat.

“So, where am I going?” I find myself gazing into his deep brown eyes for a second too long.

He seems to notice, and his cheeks turn a light shade of pink, blinking his eyes a few times to bring himself out of his daze.

“~Ahem~…I-uh I’ll just…” AJ leans over me, his firm chest pressed against my thigh, and programs in the address for his sisters’ pre-school into the sat nav.

Even through his T-shirt, I can feel the defined muscles, and I feel a tingling in the apex of my thighs. “There. I’ll come find you after the game?”

“Yeah. I’ll be the one with the kids!” I mentally facepalm myself when he gives me a quizzical look. “Good luck tonight.”

Lottie and Sammy are very excited to see me when I collect them. After taking them home and feeding them, we get ourselves ready to watch the football game.

As we are about to leave the house, Sammy starts crying.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” I crouch down in front of her, anxiously scanning her for anything obviously wrong.

“I…I…~hic~…~” ~She can barely get her words out through the sobs.

“Shhh, shh. It’s okay.” I rub her arms, trying to comfort her.

“I…w-wet myself!” Sammy wails. I bite my lips to stop from smiling.

~Thank the lord it’s nothing serious!~

I then notice the dark stain on her jean dungarees I’d just changed her into.

“That’s okay, sweetie. Let’s go get you cleaned up, hey? It doesn’t matter if we’re a few minutes late to see your brother.

“And I’m sure he’ll take you out for ice cream to cheer you up afterward if you ask nicely.” The mention of ice cream stops the tears, and a wobbly smile appears on her pink lips.

As I walk up the bleachers to take a seat, Sammy’s hand grasped on one side, and Lottie held onto my hip on the other, AJ waves to us from the field.

His little sisters both frantically wave back, and Drew, PJ, and Jake all see them and wave too, eliciting excited giggles from the little girls.

The team does amazing. Thanks to Jake and AJ, we steal the game in the last quarter. They really are the dynamic duo on the field.

I hang around near the doors to the changing rooms, watching Sammy and Lottie play with one of the footballs that had been overlooked.

Before too long, AJ emerges, freshly showered. His wet hair looks even blacker than usual, falling into his eyes like a GQ model, and his cologne swirls around him in an amazing scented cloud.

“Hey! Where’re my two beautiful girls?”

He’s so adorable with his sisters, picking them both up and swinging them around while they both smack little kisses onto his cheeks.

~I can almost feel my ovaries swoon~.

“Hey Gina, thanks for doing this. It’s…uh, well, it’s really cool of you.”

“It’s whatever. I did it to help your mom out.” I shrug, trying to act nonchalant, but the rapidly spreading blush I can feel working its way up from my chest isn’t really helping.

“I had an accident, Andy.” Sammy pouts.

“Oh no! Not a bad one, I hope.” AJ does the same scan of her little figure that I did.

“She wet herself,” I whisper.

“But Gina made me better. And she said you’d take us all out for ice cream!” Sammy grins at me.

“Oh, Gina said that, did she?” AJ grins at me, too, one eyebrow raised. My cheeks are on fire now.

“Well…I meant you’d take your sisters out…” The floor suddenly becomes very interesting to me. AJ walks over to me and leans closer to my ear, his breath on my skin making me shiver slightly.

“If you wanted me to go on a date, you could’ve just asked. You didn’t have to use my little sisters.” He pulls back and winks at me.

“I wasn’t!” My indignant rant is interrupted by Lottie slipping her little hand into mine.

“Ice-keem! Geeena come ice-keem!”

“Well, the master has spoken! You’re coming for ice cream with us.” AJ chuckles, pressing a kiss on Lottie’s chubby cheek. I roll my eyes.

“Well, if it’s an order, I guess I’ll have to!”
