Girl In The City
"Talk." I deadpan as I stand in front of Keegan's desk.
He faces up from his computer and leans back into his chair.
"About?" He cocks an eyebrow up.
"How you fucking lied to me about practically every fucking thing!" I glare at him with folded arms.
"I didn't lie about anything." He leans on his forearms on his desk.
I raise one eyebrow and scoff. "I beg to differ." I say and start pacing around his office. "You know, I just had a very interesting conversation with your ex-wife." I say and he lifts his haze up to me seeming a little shocked.
"Oh, is that so?"
"Yep." I nod. "So Keegan, tell me what the fuck is really going." I deadpan.
"I don't know whatâ"
"God so help me if you say you don't know what I'm talking about!" I cut in off as the rage in me grows.
"Keegan, bua! (Talk)" I bellow.
"Lethabile, Margaret is lying! What ever she told you, it's a lie." He stands up and walks towards me.
"Batamela ho nna o tla ikoahlaea. (Come near me and you'll regret it.)" I threaten.
He stops a few meters away from me as though he understood what I said.
"Were you or were you not the orchestrator in the drug ring area?" I stare at him in the eyes.
He looks anywhere but at me. "Keegan!" I bellow and he looks me in the eyes.
"I was but I can explaiâ"
"Bullshit!" I cut him off. "Absolutely bullshit. You told me that you 'inherited' your part in the drug and trafficking ring but you built from scratch." I let out a heavy sigh of frustration.
"Lethabile would you just letâ"
I put my hand up to stop him from talking.
"You lied to me. You fed me lies and I believed you. Then you went and made me believe I was in love when you in reality it was all a game to you. I vowed to you Keegan, I vowed till death do us apart. But it seems that in this case, it might be till papers confirm us apart." I turned around to leave but he grabbed my elbow.
I turned around and collided my backhand with Keegan's left cheek.
He didn't let go of my elbow.
"Beat me all you want but please just let me explain. Let me tell you the whole truth from where it started until now." He said pleading.
I looked at him, glaring daggers at him.
Then I slapped him again on his right cheek.
"I deserve that." He said and I huffed. "Can I explain now?" And I nod.
I walk to his couch and take a seat as I look at my burning red hand as it's about to turn purple.
"Here." He hands me a cloth filled with ice.
I take it without a word or glance at him.
I place the cloth on my beaming hand.
Damn. What is this man's face made of? Bricks?
He walks over to his desk and sits at the edge.
I don't need to look him in the eyes to know that they're filled with guilt and regret.
"My family wasn't always wealthy." He sighs heavily. "My father had a gambling problem and so when he buikt the company, things got worse. It was bad to the point that we'd go a week without food because there was no money what so ever. So I hustled."
"You sold drugs, you mean." I interrupt.
"Yes. Then I went to college and I needed to pay off student loans so I couldn't just leave the business. When my father died he left me the company but it was insolvent. So Jake joint me in the drug ring and we made it an entire empire. I used as much money as I could from the drug empire to fix the company. That was about two years ago and then I'd told myself that I'd quit."
"But you didn't." I interrupt once more.
"Because Jake never let me. He built his own trafficking ring that was associated with my drug empire and he wouldn't have that I left. I shut my empire when Jake and I ended up with an argument and he kidnapped you to spite me. That's when things got worse between because he knew that you meant a lot to me." He finished and my cold stare didn't quiver a bit.
I got up from my seat, cloth still on my hand and I walked till I was standing right in front of him.
"I love you. But you lied and for that I'm not sure I can forgive." His eyes changed from guilty to sad or heartbroken even. He nodded timidly. "But Margaret needs our help. We need to kill Jake for this whole shit storm to finally end."
"I'll do whatever you want." He looked down.
"If that's the case. Kill Jake for me."
