CHAPTER 13

TIN

All of Vel's family including Vel himself now look at me with anticipation in their face, I also can see anxiousness in their eyes.

While I just sat here, waiting for them to say something more but nothing, they didn't say anything else.

"Hmm... is that it?" I finally ask them.

They all look at each other, I guess maybe they are confused for my reaction, his mom is the one who answered :

"Yes, that's what we want to tell you, before you and Vel go on a more serious path in your relationship, we think you need to know about this fact."

"Oh..." I tried to find what reaction is appropriate for me to give right now, because really, it's nothing serious or surprising at all for me.

"We fully realize with this fact, our Vel won't be as perfect as you thought he is..."

"'Won't be as perfect'?" Ok this is insulting, "How can that make him less perfect for me?"

They all look at me confusedly, Vel sits next to me looking kinda relieved and there's a small smile on his lips.

"To be honest, since the beginning I kinda can see that Vel is not biologically related to everyone in his family. His facial features, his high nose, his sharp jaw, he didn't inherit it from his parents, unlike his other two siblings who are the splitting image of both of you. Also, Vel is the only Special Alpha with distinctive hair color in this family for generations. Even though, yes, there is a possibility for him to inherit it from his great great great great great grandparent, but that's just not how genetics work."

"So are you saying from the beginning you already have suspicion that Vel is not biologically related to me or my wife?" His mom asked me.

"Yes... and I'm sorry if that is inappropriate but it's just how my brain as a forensic doctor works."

"No, no, it's ok, there's nothing to be sorry about"

"And... I don't think that will make him any less perfect for me" I look at Vel and grab his hand when I said that because my logic said that's the appropriate thing to do "I just don't think there's a big deal in that, Vel is Vel, he won't be less than he is no matter where he come from"

"Oh... That's so sweet" I can hear Jade murmur that slowly with teary eyes.

"We are so glad to hear that, Tin" said his mom. "Ever since we adopted him, never even a day have we thought of him as not a real part of this family."

"We always told him he might not be born into this family but he was born to be part of this family" added his mama.

"I'm glad he found an amazing family that raise him and caring for him like this family" I said, this time I look at them directly "It's not my place yet now, but someday, maybe after our wedding, I hope I will have the right to say thank you to everyone in this family for taking care of him."

I can see my speech is working perfectly. His mama is completely crying now, and his mom is also teary. Even Vel is praising me.

He whispered into my ear "Good job, did you practice that in front of the mirror every night?"

I whisper back to him, "You know I don't need to."

"We are so glad that you have no problem about this, we were so afraid you will react differently from how your father reacted."

I raise my eyebrows hearing that last sentence "My dad already knows about this?"

"Yes, we told him directly the moment we received the first dating request, we usually didn't say this to everyone who gave us a dating request, but I just feel like this relationship will last and we have to come clean from the beginning."

I smile hearing that, but in my mind I curse my dad. That old geezer knew since the beginning and didn't tell me? That's so classic of him!

"Your father said it's our right and we should be the ones who tell you about this ourselves" his mom added.

"I completely agree with my dad, and I'm just glad the time has finally come for mom and mama to tell me about this. I'm actually happy because this means we are getting closer to being a family."

His mom sighs a relieved sigh while her wife is still crying happy tears beside her.

"I'm also glad that everything has become clear now." said his mom.

"Actually... there's still something" his brother suddenly says.

We all turn to him.

"What is it, Sai?" His mom looked puzzled with the sudden interruption.

"We know only one side of Vel's biological parents, we still don't know the one who gave birth to him, and it raises a bit of concern for me, if there will be just a slight possibility that Tin and Vel are somehow biologically related"

I can see from everyone's face that this is his own opinion and the other has no idea he will say it.

"That will be too much of a stretch, son. the possibility will be so low for that..."

"But there is a possibility, right?" He cut his mama "That's why, I propose a DNA test between Tin and Vel."

Everyone looked surprised with that proposal.

"Son, I don't think that's even necessary" said his mama immediately.

"I think it is, mama, we don't want them to get married, having children and those children born with disabilities because Vel and Tin turn out to be biologically related"

"I agree with P'Sai" I said quickly before anyone else defy him "I want a relationship lasting for a lifetime with Vel, and I want to make sure we will gave birth to perfectly healthy children, that's why I'm willing to do the DNA test"

"You don't have to do that if you don't want to," said Vel in a low voice just to me.

"I want to and I'm willing" I answer him.

I have my own reason, but I don't want to say it outloud here.

"I have the same opinion as Sai" said his mom, surprising his mama and Vel too "DNA test is necessary to prevent any unwanted tragedy in the future. We want the best for our children and we want their happiness to last forever. And if Tin willing to do it, I think we need to do it"

Silence in the room, no body voicing more objection after the head of the family supports this idea.

"Very good then, I believe our university's research center will be able to do the test, the result will come out in a few days." said Sai in conclusion "And until the result comes, I think Vel and Tin need to keep a distance from each other."

"What!?" said me and Vel at the same time.

"What if you two turn out to be half brothers or first cousins? That will be a very inappropriate relationship both socially and biologically." reasoned Sai "That's why I say it's better for you two to not be together until everything is clear."

VEL

My brother is being ridiculous and I can't believe both mom and Tin support him. Tin even agreed we shouldn't get together until the stupid DNA test result came out.

But I won't just give up easily. I demand the test to be done right now and my mom agreed with me. As a result, 2 people from our university's research center came to our home to take mine and Tin's DNA samples.

They must be so confused being called here to the director's private mansion in the middle of the night to take some DNA samples from the director's son and the most eligible Enigma in the country. Nevertheless, they didn't ask anything and just did their job quietly.

I told them to do the test as soon as possible because we need the result urgently. They promise we can expect the result to come out as soon as tomorrow.

My mom supported me again and told them to work on the test immediately. That's why they hurriedly go back to the lab after they finish taking our samples.

I hope I can spend more time with Tin, but with him agreeing to not be together with me until the test result comes out, he has to go home and wait for the result patiently.

After Tin goes home, I drag my brother to my room and confront him.

"Why did you do that?" I immediately ask him after I close the door.

My brother smiled, "It's good to become a cockblocker once in a while."

I kick him in the knee, a bit hard, he jumps in pain but the smile is still there.

I was ready to kick him more but he stopped me.

"Wait, wait wait" he raised his hand to block my feet "I just want to test the psychopath a little bit, I want to make sure that the psychopath truly deserves to be with my little brother."

"By being a cockblocker?"

"No, but that's not wrong either"

I furrowed my brow "What is your point?"

My brother sighs "The way he speaks during dinner is so fabricated, too much fakeness in there, he clearly just wanted to say what he thinks is right to our parents."

"And I clearly can see that too."

"And I also know you can clearly see that too." said my brother "Being manipulative through their words is one of psychopaths main traits, it's their natures, and like I said before not all psychopaths are red flags. I can clearly see he's not a red flag for you, because you can always see through him."

"If you already know that, then why with the DNA test?"

"I just want to see if he has patience" answered my brother "Sex seems like the main drive in your relationship with him."

"Your relationship with your husband too."

"That, I agree, but my husband is not a psychopath. Yours is, that's why I want to see if he is willing to make a little sacrifice, just a day or two without sex with you. If he can endure it then I will also see him as a non red flag psychopath."

I stay silent for a few seconds, somehow I can see my brother's reason. Anyone will feel uneasy when their sibling is having a relationship and planning a future with a psychopath. Especially after the psychopath shows off his manipulative self. So my brother uses this DNA test to see if this psychopath truly deserves me.

"You are my brother, I technically raised you together with our parents. I saw how far you go from that skinny pale boy to become the you who stands in front of me now. I just want you to have the best partner, and can spend the rest of your life in peace and happiness with him."

I don't need to use my ability on him but I already know everything he said is 100% genuine and I will always be thankful for that.

"Ok, I can see your reason."

"Good"

"And I'm sorry for kicking your knee."

"Apology accepted."

"I also agree we should test his patience a little"

My brother grinning from ear to ear hearing my last words.

"I bet he will call you for some sexphone tonight."

I widened my eyes hearing that "Brother!"

"What? I know I'm right, I was a horny Alpha too, well, I'm still a horny Alpha, and as a fellow horny Alpha, I know you are expecting that too."

I open my mouth to answer him but I don't know if I should deny it or agree with it.

"I challenge you to not accept or initiate any sexy conversation with Tin until the DNA result comes out."

"What?! What kind of challenge is that?"

"A challenge to make this test working, we want to test if he has patience or not so you also should give him a total sex fasting. No sexphone or sexting at all!"

TIN

It's weird that Vel didn't pick up my call at all after I left his home. My dad is also the same, I text him and call him yet still no answer at all. It's really annoying when people ignore me like this. I was thinking of going to go meet my dad directly or back to Tin's home to see why he didn't answer me, but I know both will be so unnecessary.

I take a deep breath and exhale loudly. I need to calm down and not act rashly. They will call me back soon.

I choose to take a shower and hope the water will make me more calm. It didn't. But at least the moment I step out from the shower, my phone rings. I run as fast as I can to grab it. It was my dad. I accepted the call quickly.

"Where have you been? I've been trying to call you for the last half hour."

"Khun Narissa just called me, she said she's sorry because she invited you to the first family dinner without sending an official invitation beforehand."

"You were talking to Vel's mom? That's good then, I don't need to explain much."

My dad laughed shortly in another line "Yeah, she told you that Vel was adopted and she said she's impressed with how calm and wisely you take the fact. Good job, son"

"You know about it since the beginning, why didn't you tell me before?"

"Like I told them, I think it's their right to tell you directly, not mine. I know you won't have any problem with this fact and I want you to show them how perfectly accepting you are as a person. And you did just that during this dinner."

"As usual it goes as smoothly as you planned."

"Of course it is, every plan I make will eventually work one way or another" he said proudly.

I scoff. I want to answer him but he is 100% right in his words.

"Speaking of plans, I heard the Commissioner kick Vel out of the investigation team and even suspended him from the force"

"Yeah, for the time being, he's not a treat for me anymore."

"Everything is going perfect, isn't it? Now you just need to concentrate on making children with him. Your aunt invited me to lunch this afternoon and told me about your visit."

I sigh, of course my aunt will tell my dad about my visit.

"I want that too, but he's been avoiding my call and text since I left his home"

"Don't worry about anything, everything will go smoothly from now on. I will send an invitation for the second family dinner this weekend and we will announce the official courting next Monday. He will be fully yours soon."

"Yeah, But I don't know why I feel like Vel won't give up about the case so easily. A person as smart as him will surely find a way to keep investigating this case until he gets the suitable suspect."

"Hmm... That's possible" my dad agreed with me "But, maybe you can ask Ten to put a tracker on him or clone his phone, just in case, so you can watch his movement closely."

That is actually a very good idea. Why did I need to worry if I still have Ten who can casually listen to conversation inside the Nasional Police Commissioner's office without leaving any trace or even breaking any sweat.

"I will asking for his help soon"

"That's good, and if he really does something that will possibly endanger you again, we will make other plans to counter that."

"Let's just hope he won't."

"Khun Narissa told me Vel will probably take a teaching job at one of their universities, that will make him busy enough to stop meddling in the case." Said my dad "Or, if that didn't make him busy enough, you can always make him busy with baby making activities."

I rolled my eyes hearing the last sentence "Dad..."

My dad laughed again, "I called your grandparents and told them about your prospect of courting an Alpha."

"Why did you have to call them?"

"Why not? They were so happy that our family finally has another Enigma that will possibly have an Alpha as a partner. They said you should visit them so they can share their experience and information with you and Vel."

I am actually thinking about visiting my grandparents and asking them about many things. Even Auntie Jill said she doesn't know much about the Enigma and Alpha conceivement process. So who else will have better info other than another Enigma and Alpha pair, which happen to be my own grandparents? Besides, it's been a few years since the last time I visited them, so it will be very appropriate for me to take my partner and introduce him officially to them.

"I will spare some time to visit them with Vel only after the official courting announcement."

"That's good, they will be so happy to hear that"

I ended my phone call with my dad and lay awake in my bed. Vel still hasn't answered me at all. This is getting more and more annoying. I'm super horny because I haven't touched Vel at all for the last 24 hours. Well, we did sleep together this afternoon but we were really just sleeping. He promised me he will let me do anything to him after I talk to his parents and I already did, now it's his turn to keep his promise.

Around midnight he finally called me. I accepted his call in a millisecond.

"Hello."

"Hello, Tin, why haven't you slept yet?"

"I'm waiting for you to call me back."

He sighs loudly "Tin... can you be patient?"

"Huh? why suddenly ask that?"

"P'Sai, he actually suggested the DNA test because he wants to test if you have enough patience to not have sex with me for some time."

It took me a few seconds to understand his words before I got it.

"Oh..." is my first reaction "And why did he do that?"

"Because I told him you are a psychopath and he wants to make sure you are not a red flag for me."

Another "oh" from me, then my brain going automatic and give him the best answer that my logic can give ;

"He did that because he cares so much about you and I understand him."

Vel laughed hearing my answer "Are you for real?"

"No, I don't" I answer honestly. Who am I fooling? This is Vel after all, he knows me too well "I actually wanted to punch your brother right now."

Vel laughed some more. "Me too, don't worry, I kicked him once for both of us."

"Thank you"

"But..." he quickly added "I agree with him, you do need to prove yourself to my brother."

"Oh... No..."

"Let's see this as a challenge for both of us, if you can pass this you will gain my brother's trust."

I sighed loudly "Just your brother's trust is not enough to make me do this challenge, I need extra motivation."

"Of course you are."

"Now, ask me what I want."

he chuckles "What do you want, my dear Khun Pooh?"

I smile widely hearing his answer "Let's have a retreat. I will take a leave for three days and we can go somewhere for vacation, just the two of us."

"A leave? really? when the police force still has a serial killer on the loose?"

"My subordinates can always work with just me giving them instructions through text or phone, besides it's just for a few days, I'm not leaving them forever."

He sigh "You are really determined, aren't you?"

"I am. We will start to seriously make babies, won't we? Because now I have already talked to your parents."

He giggles "Where do you want to go, anyway?"

"To the beach" I answer immediately "I want to just stay near the ocean and eat fresh seafood everyday there."

He giggles again "That sounds good."

"So you agree?"

"If you agree to do my brother's test."

"It's only until tomorrow, right?"

"Hopefully yes..."

"I'm still ok if it's for a day or two, as long as we can spend more time together after that."

"Happy to hear that" he said, but then quickly added "Oh, my brother also said no sexphone."

I widen my eyes when I heard the last sentence "What?! I didn't..."

He cuts the phone call before I finish my sentence, and I automatically curse. Is he for real? Not even a sexphone? I was about to call him back when he sent me a text message.

"P'Sai also said no sexting so go to sleep now, good night."

I was so ready to argue with him but I remember it's all a challenge, and I love winning a challenge, the prize is already set to and I just need to follow the rules.

It's only for one or two days, right? It's easy, I can do this!

I text him back a simple "Good night for you too, Babe"

Then I put my phone down and go to sleep. Like my dad used to say, sleep will make time go faster and I really want to skip to tomorrow, when the DNA test results come out. I hope Sai won't be silly and hold back the result until a few days later. If he really does that, I don't care who he is, I'll go to his house and choke him to death in his sleep.

VEL

It feels weird waking up in the morning and not needing to get ready for anything, I'm not a student and I'm also jobless. This time should be a relaxing time for me but I end up frustrated because I have nothing to do. I have breakfast with my family then go back to my room and watch TV because I absolutely have no idea what I should do.

I'm watching TV but not really watching it because I do that while texting Tin. He really behaved like a good child, no flirting, and nothing sensual about our text, just a normal text like what I eat, or what I do. Generic things like that.

Despite being bored, my mood the whole day is pretty much good, until I watch the news and The Commissioner's face appear.

I was about to change the channel. But then I heard him start to talk about the Thumb Collector case and I was totally baffled with what I heard.

He blatantly said the Investigation team has concluded that the Tumb Collector is not just one person but a terrorist group and they are connected to an organ trafficking organization. He even mentioned the New Valuer who tried to bomb the restaurant during my dinner with Vel was part of the same terrorist group.

That is total bullshit! Thumb Collector has nothing to do with New Valuer. They might be not just one person, but they are totally not a group of terrorists. Maybe a main suspect and one person who assisted them but definitely not a group of people. This person didn't believe in any Value. They probably looked like a true Old Valuer in their daily lives but they didn't really believe in it. They are surely not a New Valuer and will never be in the same group with someone who gets into a restaurant with a vest bomb and screams insult to The Old Valuers.

To add more bullshit into his speech, The Commissioner also said I voluntarily retired from the investigation team because of the news that spread on social media about me and Tin.

I really want to throw something at the TV, but my phone rings and it stops me. It's not from Tin like I thought, the call was from Ping, why did he call me?

"Hello, Ping?"

"Vel, are you home?"

"Yes, I am. what is it?"

"Did you watch the news?"

"Yes, I just saw your dad on TV."

He sigh "As you can see, my dad tried to derail the investigation completely, he will blame anyone except the one who really did it just because they didn't fit his own mindset."

"Yeah, I kinda expect this."

"I'm just a name in the Investigation team now, I'm still the leader on the paper but he didn't give me any authority. He's taking over the investigation completely and soon he will catch some people just to make them take all the blame and close the case ASAP."

I'm gritting my teeth just hearing that, but as much as I hate it, I really can't do anything about it. He made me go to New Zealand the last time, I believe he will send me to the South pole if I make him even more angry this time. Yet still, I have a feeling Ping called me because he has some kind of plan and wants me to join him.

"You have some plan, don't you?"

"I kinda do, but I'm not sure if I can actually do anything about it, that's why I need your help." he sounds quite desperate when he said it "Yesterday when my dad told me to clean up your room I smuggled some of your investigation file to my home, and I also smuggle some from my own team, I was thinking to start my own investigation with all the file I have and I want you to join me."

"I'm in." I answered him without really thinking about it. I really really want to do something about it, whatever it is.

I can hear Ping chuckling "I know you will say yes, thank you."

"But wait, you said the files is at your home? Did your husband know about it?"

"He knows, he was complaining about the unorganized box that makes our home become untidy, but when I told him what's inside the box, he fully supported me. You know, he... doesn't really like my dad, somehow."

I scoff, of course he doesn't. I have known Nut for years, he is many things, abnormally tall, big personality, loud voice, unfiltered. But one thing I always admire about him is he never likes bullies and people who control other people's lives too much. The Commissioner definitely falls into the second category.

I can imagine Nut keeps saying no to whatever The Commissioner told Ping to do, and he must be pretty annoyed with Nut. If Nut is not coming from a famous and rich athlete family, there is no way The Commissioner will accept Nut as his son in-law. Now, I kinda can see why Nut fits perfectly with Ping, he can make Ping become not so much of The Commissioner's obedient son. The old Ping will never have a thought to do an investigation behind his dad's back.

"I'm glad we don't need to hide it from your husband."

"Yeah, but what about you, should we tell Tin about this too."

That is a very hard question. Tin will surely hate it if I spend too much of my time and mind on this secret investigation, especially when it's no longer my job. Besides, deep in my mind, just a small fragment of my mind still somehow has a little suspicion toward him.

"No, I don't think we should tell him."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, we shouldn't involve him in this."
