Chapter 192
My Mute Bride
âLook out!â Rachel stopped her assistant from falling. If it werenât for her, the assistant would have crashed into the lighting prop, and thatâd be disastrous. âAre you alright?â
Her assistant paled from the shock. âThank you, Chris.â
The one who shoved her assistant was a harsh-looking young lady. âServes you right.â Then, she picked the chair and left.
Rachel didnât want to get into any arguments, but she wouldnât let her assistant get pushed around like that. âHold it right there!â
The harsh lady frowned. âWhat do you want?â
âApologize.â
âWhat did you say?â The harsh lady couldnât believe what she was hearing. âWhy should I? She tried to take Miss Amberâs stuff. If anyone should be apologizing, itâs her!â
âFirst of all, I donât see Amberâs name anywhere on the chair. And I donât think you brought it yourself.â
âButâ¦â The harsh lady gritted her teeth. âBut Miss Amber has been using this chair all this time. Are you a newbie? Donât you know the rules around here, old lady? Do you know who Miss Amber is?
Sheâs the most popular doctor on the show.â
Rachel ignored her. âAnd secondly, even if this is her chair, that doesnât mean you can push anyone however you want. Youâre lucky sheâs alright, but if sheâs not, thereâll be hell to pay,â she said coldly.
âThatâs just unreasonable!â The harsh lady glared at Rachel. âIâm not arguing with you. Miss Amber is waiting for me.â
âTake one more step and Iâm suing you for battery.â
The harsh lady was finally looking scared.
But just then, a woman said, âI can hear you from the next booth over. Rachel, ever since you can talk, youâve been quite aggressive. And now youâre targeting a helpless intern?â
Obviously, the woman was Amber the b*tch. She was a guest the channel invited, so she had to come for a shoot every week for her show.
Coincidentally, Rachel was also invited to talk about the mass production of Burton Pharmaceuticals, so they ran into each other.
Amber stood before Rachel and told the onlookers, âThis lady here, Chris, used to be a mute. Guess thatâs a surprise, huh? But then, she miraculously started talking after twenty years of being a mute. If it were me, Iâd talk about your experience instead of the new meds. After all, thatâs loads better than some fancy new item, right?â
The crowd was buzzing with excitement.
However, Rachel answered calmly, âIf theyâre interested, then I donât mind sharing my experience, but thatâs for another day. Your assistant almost hurt someone, but sheâs still not apologizing.â
Amber replied nonchalantly, âJust that? Sophie, just say sorry.â
Sophie was surprised, but a moment later, she said reluctantly, âIâm sorry. Happy?â She glared at Rachel and Lisa.
âShe said sorry. Can we go now?â Amber asked, then she told Sophie to take the chair away.
The onlookers were about to go on with their own business, thinking that this was the end of it, but Rachel suddenly said, âAmber, you donât need to work today. Just here to inform you.â
âIâm sorry?â
âNo. Not just today. You donât have to come ever again,â Rachel continued calmly.
âHuh? What makes you think you can say that?â Amber scoffed. âYouâre just Burton Pharmâs sales director. Justin might have let you handle the company, but this is the studio. They invited me to host this show. You donât have the right to fire me.â
âWeâll see about that in a minute.â Rachel called someone right there and then. âDavid, Iâve thought about it, and I accept your offer.â
David? Amberâs face fell. âDavid? Which David?â
Rachel hung up and smirked. âYou should know. There arenât many Davids in the studio.â
Before Amber could form her thoughts, a production assistant came over from the next booth. âIâm sorry, Dr. Hudson, but a situation popped up. We canât record the show today.â
âWhat do you mean you canât record the show?â
âItâs a new notice. Your show is canceled. This week is the last episode. There will be a new show next week.â
Amber looked upset, and Sophie was angered. âHow can you do this? Weâve prepared the content, and the rehearsals are done.â
âIâm sorry. Weâll pay the final sum as soon as possible. Sorry for the trouble.â
âWhy youâ¦â
âSophie.â Amber stopped her. âDonât trouble them. Itâs just normal for the studio. We arenât as powerful as a certain someone, and thatâs on us.â
Rachel replied calmly, âInstead of being all sarcastic with me, you should think about your future after your showâs cancellation. The company wonât tolerate any slackers.â
Amber finally lost her composure. First, Rachelâs team crushed her team, and now her show-which she worked hard for-was canceled. There was nothing else she could contribute.
âLetâs go, Lisa.â Rachel then added, âAnd take the chair.â
Amber almost went on a rampage right away.
Lisa took the chair right in front of Rachel and Sophie, but this time, she was confident. âSorry for the trouble, Chris.â She put the chair down and gave Rachel an apologetic look.
âItâs fine. Itâs not your fault. You canât reason with an unreasonable person, so youâll have to take aâ¦
different approach, so to speak.â
Lisa nodded.
Later, Amber left the recording hall and waited for her assistant in her car, but then she heard the staff members who came out engaging in a discussion.
âDid you see that? One call from Chris and the boss canceled Amberâs show. Awesome.â
âWho is she? Sheâs just a sales director, right? Amberâs Mr. Burtonâs fiancée. How did she even find the courage to stand up to her?â
âOh, you donât know? Chris is Justinâs ex-wife.â
âWait, what? Really?â
âI have a friend whoâs working in Burton Group. Itâs true. Chris is Justinâs daughterâs mother. She even went to see him in the company, and they had dinner together. Iâm sure itâs true.â
âI see. So sheâs legit. Amberâs just a mistress. No wonder sheâs scared of Chris.â
The discussion went on.
