Chapter 267
My Mute Bride
Chapter 267 We Have All the Evidence Soon, night enveloped the summer villa. As Justin had expected, the family dinner had already ended when he arrived. Just as he was about to enter, he heard Julian and Sue talking inside.
âJulian, you arenât young anymore. Itâs time to start a family. Youâve met the Harper Familyâs second daughter once. Her appearance, education, and personality are very good. She excels in all aspects.â
âMom, Iâm very busy. I donât have time to date.â
âWhat are you talking about? No matter how busy you are, you have to get married, donât you?â
âYour mother is right, Julian. If Coraline doesnât fit your tastes, Iâll get someone to find someone else for you. You should meet her too and settle this important matter so that your mother can finally be at peace.â
âGrandpa, you donât need to worry about this. I know what to do.â
âWhat do you know about?â Sueâs expression suddenly darkened. She accused, âI know what youâre thinking. Youâre still thinking about that little mute girl, arenât you? Youâve been bewitched by her!â
âMom!â Julian frowned in displeasure, his expression changing as well. âPlease mind your language.
How could you call her a little mute girl?â
âShe was mute in the first place. If I knew that youâve been treating her abroad all these years, I wouldnât have let you go back then.â
Irritated by Sueâs cold words, Julian stood up and said, âGrandpa, I have other matters to attend to, so Iâll be leaving.â
Arthur nodded slightly. Although he cared about Julian, Julian was not a child of the Burton Family, and it was not easy to intervene in matters involving Rachel. In fact, he hoped that Julian could get together with Rachel to save himself the trouble.
âJulian!â Sue chased after Julian in an attempt to stop him, but the mother and son unexpectedly bumped head-on into Justin who had just entered.
âJustin.â Sueâs face paled a little when she saw Justin. âWhen did you arrive?â
Julian greeted him indifferently. âHey, Justin.â
Justin said, âI just reached a while ago. Whatâs wrong, Aunt Sue? Are you trying to get Julian a girlfriend?â
Sue replied with a smile, âYes, he isnât young anymore. Look at you two. Youâre just a few years apart, but Charlotte has already grown so much, and he still hasnât found someone to date.â
âI happen to know a few friends. Perhaps I could introduce some to him.â
âNo need.â Julian flatly refused, his tone a little displeased. âJustin, I donât want to worry you about this.
If you have this much free time, you should introduce them to yourself.â
âBut I donât need to, do I?â
Julianâs brows furrowed slightly, and his usually warm eyes turned cold as he said, âI need it even less.â
A cough sounded in the room, breaking the stand-off between the two.
Justin narrowed his gaze as he entered the house. âGrandpa.â
Julian stood at the door for a while. Then, ignoring Sueâs nagging by his side, he turned and walked away.
As soon as Arthur saw Justin, his expression turned serious. âWhere have you been these two days?â
âThere was an outdoor parent-child activity at Charlotteâs school.â
âIâm assuming that woman went with you as well.â
âShe is Charlotte and Samuelâs mother. How is it surprising that she went with us?â
âYou really didnât take what I told you to heart at all, did you?â Arthur slammed the teacup in his hand down loudly, and the tea splashed across the table as he ordered, âThat woman canât continue to stay by your side. If you donât chase her away, I will go to her myself and ask her what she had promised me.â
âItâs my decision to keep her around. No matter what she had promised you, it doesnât count without my consent.â
âYouâ¦â
âIâd also like to remind you not to worry about my personal affairs in the future.â
âYou better watch your words!â Arthur roared, his expression turning livid.
On the contrary, Justin looked unfazed except for his eyes that had turned dark as he continued, âThereâs one more thing I want to ask you. Except for business matters, do I have any history with Jason?â
âWhat history?â
âDonât try to hide it from me anymore. Bring him in.â As Justin cast a glance outside, the bodyguard standing by the door entered with a bound skinny man and threw him on the floor.
The skinny man let out a cry of pain and was forced to raise his face. As soon as he saw Arthur, he begged for mercy profusely. âOld Mr. Burton, save me!â
Arthur rose from behind the table at once. âWhatâs going on? Heâs one of Jasonâs people.â
This skinny man was one of Jasonâs people. Arthur had seen him a few times and was familiar with him.
Justin said coldly, âI should be asking you that question. Why are Jasonâs right hand men sent to assassinate people? Is he planning to get rid of me and inherit the Burton Group?â
âWhat did you say? Jason sent someone to kill you?â Arthurâs face fell immediately.
The skinny man on the ground widened his eyes and hurriedly defended himself, âNo, thatâs not it.
Master Jason asked us to killâ¦â
Before he could say anything, Justin raised his foot and stepped on the skinny manâs face fiercely, asking in a chilling tone, âDid I allow you to speak?â
The skinny manâs screams were lodged in his throat, like a duck that had its neck stepped on, and his face smeared a gruesome trail of blood on the ground.
Arthur frowned. âHow could Jason try to hurt you?â
âWe have all the evidence. What do you think?â
Justin extended his hand to the side, and the bodyguard immediately put a knife wrapped in a sealed bag in his hand. Even though it was separated by a layer of plastic film, the sharpness of the knife was very clear.
âThereâs poison on this knife. I donât know exactly what poison it is, so Iâve asked someone to analyze it. In case you didnât believe me, I specially brought this physical evidence to you. You can also let someone you trust investigate it themselves.â
âThen, Iâll have Dennis investigate it.â
Saying this, Justin slapped the knife on the table with a loud smack.
Given his old age, Arthur rarely saw knives and swords, so he had quite a shock. Jason and Justin had been at odds for a long time and always had their fair share of rivalries, so it wasnât unbelievable that Jason wanted to kill Justin. However, after that incident five years ago, Arthur had already warned Justin, so why would he dare to attempt it again?
âI will have this matter investigated.â
âIf youâre saying that, does that mean that Jason really has some sort of history with me?â Justin lifted his foot off the skinny man and pulled out a chair to sit down. âI have enough time today to listen carefully to what you have to say.â
âWhat do you want to know?â
âI want to know why that arrogant Jason suddenly left the Burton Group five years ago to start some unethical entertainment businesses by himself. Why did he come back less and less often and even change his name to something like Caleb?â
There were many other things that Justin couldnât recall.
Arthur replied, âHe isnât cut out for business. Him staying in Burton Group will only cause you trouble.â
âIs it that simple?â
âOf course.â Arthur looked at Justin calmly. âOther than this, what other reason would make Jason leave Burton Group?â
Justin narrowed his eyes and replied, âI hope thatâs only the case as well.â
