Chapter 393
My Mute Bride
Chapter 393 Theyâre Even Now âPresident Burton.â
Frankie stared at Justin in disbelief. âBurton Group is the work of generations of Burtons. Are you just going to hand it over? And to Julian?â
Justin merely replied, âJulian is also a member of the Burton Family.â
Frankie took a deep breath. âPresident Burton, thereâs something I didnât want to bring up because you wouldnât let me check, but now it seems like I have to. If Julian is a Burton, who is his biological father?
Others donât know, but I figure you should.â
Justin frowned slightly.
After Jasonâs incident, Julian sent Sue abroad at once. Even he couldnât contact her. It wasnât hard to figure out the relationship between Julian and Jason.
âHave you ever thought that President Hudson had nothing to do with Old Mr. Burtonâs death? Perhaps ââ
âThatâs enough.â Justin interrupted Frankie and said in a low voice, âDonât bring this topic up again.â
âBut Old Mr. Burton was clearly poisoned. Are you going to continue deceiving yourself? Whether it was President Hudson or Dr. Peters who did it, this is murder. They can go to jail!â
âThereâs no evidence, so who are you planning to send to jail?â
Justin shot Frankie a glance, startling him.
Justin continued, âThereâs no need to talk about this, and thereâs no need to tell me about the affairs of Burton Group anymore. Iâm not interested.â
Frankie was taken aback. âAre you saying that I have a big mouth? Fine. I wonât say anything more in the future. Just treat it as me coming here to gossip because I was too bored!â
Once he finished his rant, Frankie left in a huff.
He was obviously rather frustrated at the very least.
When leaving, he bumped into Gloria, who had just arrived. She saw Frankie coming her way and politely greeted him, âAssistant Beckham.â
Unfortunately, Frankie was utterly livid, so he nodded indifferently, greeted her, and stalked off.
Gloria was confused.
Whatâs up with him?
In the study, Justin was still looking at his calligraphy work.
As soon as Gloria entered, she asked, âWhat happened to Assistant Beckham? He ignored me when I talked to him. Did you scold him?â
âNo.â
His answer was concise, with no intention of explaining whatsoever.
âWhy are you here?â
âOh.â Gloria lifted the pastries in her hand. âI bought some pastries from Levain Bakery. There are croissants and other stuff in here. Iâll put it here for you.â
âYou know I donât like sweet stuff.â
âItâs not for you.â
Gloria rolled her eyes at him. âThis Saturday, bring this to Triburg Valley when you come to find us, then give this to Charlotte and Samuel.â
âThis Saturday?â
Justin was slightly startled. âDonât you have something planned for Saturday?â
âWhat? You know about it?â Gloria stared at him in surprise. âWe do have something planned. Who told you that?â
âRachel mentioned it, so I wonât pick Charlotte up this week.â
âMiss Rachel met with you? What did you all talk about?â
âNothing much. We just had a meal together.â
âYou even had a meal together? Didnât I say that Miss Rachelâs attitude toward you has improved? Itâs different from before. You have to take advantage of this opportunity. This Saturday, why donât you take the initiative toââ
âIâm not going.â
He interrupted Gloria with three decisive words.
Initially, Gloria was excited to arrange some activities, so when she heard this, she felt as if her enthusiasm had been splashed with cold water, causing her expression to change. âWhy arenât you going? Are you backing out again?â
âRachelâs work and life are very tiring, and she hardly gets any rest. You guys have fun. I donât want my presence to bring any unhappiness.â
âThis is all your assumptions. How do you know that sheâll be unhappy to see you?â
âIf anyone else had experienced those things five years ago, they wouldnât be happy.â
âThen, why did she have a meal with you? You havenât been back for long, and even I havenât eaten with you yet, but Miss Rachel has already had a meal with you? That means that itâs all in the past.â
Justin had a complicated expression on his face as he repeated what Gloria said in a low voice, âItâs all in the past.â
He still remembered when Rachel said that they were âevenâ now, referring not only to hatred but also to gratitude or resentment.
âI donât care. You have to come this Saturday. Youâll definitely regret not coming. Julian is closely pursuing Miss Rachel now. If you donât work harder, itâll be too late.â
âArenât they already engaged?â
âEngaged? Who told you that?â Gloria frowned. âAre you kidding me?â
âTheyâre not engaged?â Justin was surprised momentarily.
âIf Miss Rachelâs engaged, Iâll definitely tell you right away. Who said theyâre engaged?â
When Justin heard this, he suddenly remembered Rachelâs surprised look when Julian said âfiancéeâ in the restaurant.
Theyâre not engaged.
âWhat are you thinking about? If Miss Rachel could accept Julian, she would have accepted him long ago. Why wait until now? Your imagination is running wild from staying home all day. No way. You will be in attendance this Saturday. I will send you the address.â
Gloria immediately took out her phone and sent Justin the gathering address on Saturday.
Ding! Justinâs phone rang, and a message from Gloria popped out.
âItâs settled then. Remember to bring the pastries when the time comes. Both Charlotte and Samuel love them.â
After that, Gloria left in a hurry.
Soon, it was Friday night.
As the gathering was located in an old town at Triburg Valley, which was 100 miles away from the city, they all went over at night and stayed in the old town for two nights.
Initially, Rachel planned to drive there on her own, but as soon as she packed her things and went downstairs, she saw a car parked at the door.
When their eyes met, the atmosphere was a little awkward.
She asked with difficulty, âWhy are you here? Didnât we decide that everyone will drive there on our own in the group chat?â
Julian simply said, âGive me your things.â
Rachel was still stunned when the sound of doors opening sounded behind her.
Jolly dragged several bags out. âJulian, what are you standing there for? Hurry up and help me.
Theyâre cumbersome. Put all of these in the car.â
Rachel was even more stunned. âWeâre just going there for two days. Why are you bringing so many things?â
âTheyâre all essentials!â
As she saw Julian silently stepping forward to help, she didnât need to think to know that Jolly had called Julian over to be their workman.
It took the three of them half an hour to move the things into the car. The trunk was stuffed full, bags fully occupied the passenger seat, and even the legroom at the backseat was so full that Rachel and Jolly pretty much had no place to rest their feet.
âJolly, are you moving houses? Even if youâre moving, why did you ask Julian to help and not your boyfriend?â
âWhy? Are you distressed?â
Jolly didnât even consider the fact that Rachel and Julian were still at an awkward stage. When she said that, the atmosphere in the car turned stilted.
The atmosphere, which had finally eased, went back to how it was at the start just because of her remark.
Rachel reached out and gave Jollyâs thigh a fierce pinch.
