Chapter 412 - 412 New Nurse
Conquering His Cold Heart
412 New Nurse
Vincent was leaning on the wall while watching the newly appointed nurse performing a routine check-up on Tilla.
After he watched the nurse take Tillaâs pulse and check her eyes and tongue, he walked closer to the bed and asked, âHowâs her health, Mrs. Abney?â
Mrs. Abney was a middle-aged woman with quite a few years of experience in her field of work. Her warm voice and innately caring nature for the patients was what got her selected among a few other candidates who appeared at the doorsteps of the Warmane Mansion for the job interview.
She turned to look at the Lord and answered him in her comforting voice, âOther than her back, her vitals are showing improvement, Milord.â
She looked back at Tilla and gently held her palm. And she further said, âThe Mistress was telling me that she was having a problem with her arms and legs.â
This was the first time Vincent was hearing about it. Thus, he asked in a shocked tone, âWhat? What happened to her arms and legs?â
Tilla, who was listening to their conversation silently until now looked at that restless expression on Vincentâs face and said, âNo, itâs nothing. You donât have to worry.â
Mrs. Abney understood that Tilla didnât want Vincent to worry too much about her.
Thus, she supported what Tilla was saying, âNot having full control of motor function after such a bad fall is a normal reaction. With some light routine exercises, like this one for exampleâ¦â She demonstrated by pumping her fists and said, ââ¦she will be back to normal in no time.â
.....
Vincent furrowed his brows and asked, âAre you sure about that?â
âYes.â Mrs. Abney gave a warm smile and said in her comforting voice, âI have treated a few patients with similar problems. So, you can rest assured, Milord.â
Vincent let out a deep sigh and gave a nod. âI will leave her in your care then,â he said while entrusting Tillaâs health to the nurse.
Mrs. Abney then turned to look at the tray that a maid had brought earlier. The tray was lying on the bedside table and contained a water bag filled with cold water.
She gently picked it up and then asked for Vincentâs help, âMilord, will you help the Mistress to lay on her side? I need to press this on her back.â
âWhy, of course.â Vincent quickly took off his shoes and climbed on the bed because there was no other way to get closer to Tilla. She was sleeping on the other end of the wide bed and that end was occupied by the nurse. So, he walked on his knees and reached Tillaâs side.
Tillaâs heart was racing when she felt Vincentâs cold hands slipping under her body. She drew in a sharp breath and clutched her gown when the cold seeped through her relatively thick clothes.
Vincent glanced at Tillaâs blushing cheeks and said after smirking, âPlease excuse me. I am going to turn you now.â
Tilla bit her lower lip and turned her head to the other side before giving a nod.
Vincent was very gentle and careful when he helped Tilla. Tilla felt a stinging pain in her back but she closed her eyes and didnât make a sound. And yet, Vincent could see that she was in pain.
âDid I hurt you even more?â he asked while looking guilty for not being gentler.
Tilla shook her head and mumbled, âNo, itâs not because of you, Milord. It hurts when I try to move even a bit.â
Vincent kept on furrowing his brows as he intently stared at Tillaâs delicate face.
Mrs. Abney was waiting for the Lord to move aside from her patient. But when he did not, she cleared her throat because her hands were already freezing as she was still holding that cold water bag.
Vincent broke out of his daze and sat down on the bed instead of hovering over Tilla.
Mrs. Abney looked at Tillaâs back and then tried to loosen the layers of the gown so that the cold from the water would easily reach Tillaâs back. And while she tried to do so, she mumbled so as not to fill the room with awkward silence.
âIt would be really nice for the Mistress if it snowed. We could use the snow instead of cold water. Snow is more effective in such cases.â
She was unsuccessful in what she was trying to do even after she tried for a while. Thus, she smiled at Vincent and asked another favor from him, âMilord, will you help me remove the Mistressâ clothes? I need toââ
âWhat? No!â Tilla exclaimed while glaring at the nurse in shock. She was feeling embarrassed for something that she didnât even say.
Even Vincent was feeling mortified by the demand of the nurse. So, he turned his head away and fisted over his mouth while pretending to cough.
âAh!â A soft whisper of realization escaped the nurseâs mouth. She bowed to both of them and apologized, âPlease excuse my insolent behavior. I had assumed that you two were a⦠married couple.â
âNo!â Tilla looked at the nurse with wide eyes and shook her head, âWe are not.â
âYet.â Vincent smiled at the nurse and corrected Tilla, âWeâre not married yet.â
Tilla would have loved to give a death glare to Vincent for saying such things in front of strangers. âIf only he wasnât sitting behind me right now!â she exclaimed in her head.
Mrs. Abney looked down and smiled. Although the two of them claimed that they werenât married, she could clearly see some spark between the two of them. And she didnât judge them for their feelings.
Thus, she boldly asked Vincent, âJust help me loosen her gown around her back then.â She flashed the water bag in her hand and said, âI need to press this directly on her skin.â
Tilla opened her mouth to protest, âMilord, I think it would be better if you called for aââ
However, by the time she was about to make her request, Vincent was already reaching for the laces around her stomach.
She drew in a sharp breath and bit her lower lip when she felt his cold fingers dancing on her back as he slightly pushed the gown towards her bottom.
She thought that he would stop but when he kept on going lower and lower than what she expected, she suddenly lifted her hand and grabbed his palm.
âI think thatâs enoughâ¦â she said in a ragged whisper.
âAh!â Vincent snapped out of his dazed state and apologized, âIâm⦠Iâm sorry.â His face soon turned red with embarrassment and he decided that it was better to leave Tilla alone with the nurse.
âI will wait outside,â he mumbled before rushing out of the chamber.
