Chapter 45
Conquering His Cold Heart
45 Playful Bickering
âGood morning, dear wife,â Caspian whispered. He waited for his wife to take that blanket off and show her face to him.
However, Anastasia neither showed her face nor said a word to him. She kept on staying curled up inside the blanket.
Caspian playfully bit his lower lip. And he gently tugged the blanket.
But his shy wife tightened her hold on the blanket even more.
âAnna...â Caspian teasingly pinched her waist and successfully made her squirm. But that was it.
The Vampire King couldnât help but chuckle at his shy wife. And he asked, âWife, are you going to stay inside that blanket for the whole day?â
There was no answer. Nor any kind of reaction.
Caspian got a great idea to further tease his wife. âAh! I get it. You must already be craving to kiss me until you are breathless. Here I come then.â
âNo!â Anastasia suddenly squeaked and peeped from under the blanket.
.....
She furrowed her brows and chastised Caspian, âWhy didnât you wake me up before Zenon entered the room? He saw us in one bed!â
Caspian lay down on the bed and rested his head on his palm. He gazed into his wifeâs emerald green eyes and asked playfully, âSo what if he saw us? Weâre not having a secret affair now, are we?â
âNo, but...â Anastasia covered her face again and said in a muffled tone, âHe saw us! And why are you still na... Why arenât you wearing any clothes yet?â
âBecause you are wearing my robe, remember?â Caspian started poking Anastasiaâs shoulder so that she would stop hiding from him.
Caspian heard Anastasiaâs muffled voice again, âFine. I will go back to my chamber and change into my gown. And I will have this robe sent over if this is what you will be wearing for the rest of the day.â
Anastasia suddenly sprung up and threw the blanket away with a jerk. She unintentionally threw away the only thing that was covering her husbandâs family jewels.
âOh, good lord!â Anastasia turned her neck so fast that it even made a cracking sound.
âAh!â She instantly held her neck with her palm.
Instead of pulling the blanket and covering himself, Caspian labeled his wife as a perverted woman. âOh, wife! Are you that desperate to see me naked? You could have just said so instead of making me look indecent when the door is wide open.â
âT-Thatâs not it!â Anastasia shouted in denial.
She then pursed her lips and tight shut her eyes out of embarrassment. She subconsciously began to sway her body back and forth while inwardly cursing herself, âWhy did I have to throw that blanket so enthusiastically? Now he thinks I did that on purpose!â
The friction from the blanket earlier had caused Anastasiaâs hair to be static, and quite a few strands of her hair stood up as if they wanted to escape from Anastasiaâs head.
Caspian was enjoying seeing her static hair move when she was restlessly swaying her body. He puffed his cheeks and pressed his lips together to prevent himself from laughing at his wife.
But that only made it worse for him. He ended up laughing out loud, prompting Anastasia to turn her head towards him.
âWhy are you la- haaaaaa... Cover yourself up, will you?â Anastasia jumped out of the bed and ran.
She wanted to lock herself up in her bedchamber so that she wouldnât embarrass herself anymore. She also didnât have the intention to learn about the male anatomy today.
However, in her hastiness, she forgot that the robe that she was wearing was too long for her. And she ended up stepping on the robe and tripping down head first.
Thankfully, Caspian managed to grab the collar of the robe and prevented his wife from hitting her head on the floor.
âAre you okay?â
Caspian swiftly picked Anastasia in his arms. He had a few frown lines on his porcelain face when he scanned his eyes all over his wifeâs body.
It took a few seconds for Anastasia to know what happened in those few seconds. And when she realized that she was in Caspianâs arms somehow, her heart started to hammer in her chest.
As if it wasnât already embarrassing for her, her husbandâs sculpted chest was right up her face. And she didnât know where to look. Or rather, she was having a hard time trying not to look at her husbandâs chest.
âYour knees look red,â Caspian announced himself.
He took her back to his bed and made her lay down.
And he scolded her, but in a gentle voice, âWhy did you have to sprint like that? I was just teasing you a little.â
Caspian swiftly pulled the blanket from the bed and wrapped it around his waist. He didnât want to make his wife run again.
He then pushed his wifeâs robe to reveal her knees and gently pressed his cold palms over them. âI heard once that the cold prevents the bruises from turning blue.â
He glanced at his wifeâs face only to see her gaze fixated on his chest.
Caspian chuckled at that sight, and he asked her, âAnd you donât have to be so shy around me. You can stare at me to your heartâs content. Iâm all yours, arenât I?â
Anastasia was so lost in the beauty of her husbandâs marvelous body that she didnât hear a word he had said till now.
She suddenly jumped back to her senses and saw Caspian gazing at her.
She quickly looked away and asked, âDid you say something?â
Caspian chuckled again. He looked at his wifeâs rosy cheeks and said in his low but deep voice, âNow youâre back to being shy. I wonder how long it will take for you to get completely comfortable around me.â
Anastasia didnât answer because she was not in a state to. Her mind was busy scolding her for ogling her husbandâs body. She pressed her palm on her cheeks and kept on staring at the window.
And Caspian wondered silently, âAnd I wonder how long it will take for you to madly fall in love with me. Because I am already at your mercy. I want you to fall deeper than me.â
Suddenly, Caspianâs sharp ears caught the sound of some vampires running in the direction of his private chambers.
âIt must be the servants. Wait right here,â he said to Anastasia.
He locked the door to his bedchamber as he stepped outside to his antechamber.
He didnât want his wife to feel more uncomfortable than she already was.
Unlike what Caspian had thought, Zenon and Vincent walked inside his antechamber.
Vincent couldnât help but laugh at the condition of his friend. âWhat in the hell? Why are you wearing a blanket? Did the King suddenly get poor overnight?â
Vincent held his stomach and kept on laughing out loud.
Caspian rolled his eyes at Vincent and then looked at Zenon. He mockingly asked his advisor, âDo you finally have something to say?â
Zenon awkwardly cleared his throat and informed the King, âYour Majesty, we are ready to head towards the residence of Lord Bartholomew. Bethâs accomplice in poisoning the Queen is also ready.â
A subtle smirk danced on Caspianâs lips. He then asked Zenon, âDid you make it clear to that traitor what he is supposed to do there?â
Zenon gave a polite nod and answered, âYes, Your Majesty. Weâve made sure that he will do as weâve asked him. Weâre going to take one bird down today.â
