Extra - One of a Kind (Pt. 1)
Charming In Handcuffs
*This one is even cheesier than the first one-shot, so don't say I didn't warn you. But this has been requested, and I did my best. I hope you guys like it!*
"Get your shoes off of my bed!" I panicked, trying to push James's feet off the edge of my bed.
He just laughed and I glared at him. He had his arm folded under his head as he grinned at me, "Fine!" He held his hands up in defense and swung his feet over the edge of my bed. He kicked of his boots and resumed his previous position, "Why are you freaking out?"
"Because Jack's coming home in a few hours." I said sheepishly.
James laughed again, "Seriously? That's what's getting you all worked up?" He waved a hand over the length of my room, "Your room is spotless. Also, I seriously doubt Jack is going to notice if a book on your shelf is out of place when he sees you."
"You're probably right, but still. I'm nervous and it helps me."
He raised a brow, "Cleaning helps your nerves?"
I nodded.
"That is sad, Juliet." He snorted, "There are plenty of ways to calm your nerves. I can show you my favoriteâ"
"Thanks for the offer, but no thanks."
"I'm talking about Netflix...what did you think I was talking about?"
I felt my face burn and I heard James's laugh again.
"Oh..." James trailed off, "I mean, that works too, I guess."
I sighed, biting back a laugh, "I'm sorry, ignore me."
James smirked, "I love how you assumed that was my favorite. But that comes in fourth, right behindâ"
I held my hand up to stop him, "I don't need to know."
"Behind video games. Where is your mind?" James looked like he was on the verge of laughing at me again and I was going to let him.
"Clearly it's somewhere dirty."
"Clearly." He muttered and a grin tugged at his lips.
Since Lindy left for school, James became my best friend. Even though no one can replace lindy, but James comes pretty damn close. We're going to the same college, but I haven't told him about my plans to move to New York in the fall. I don't know how he's going to take it.
There has been a few times were there was tension between James and I in the past that we managed to control. I didn't feel anything brotherly towards James and I wish I still did. But I do look at him like a friend and I love Jack more than anything. I couldn't imagine not being with Jack and I couldn't imagine ever being with James in any sense of the word.
James couldn't handle a relationship anyway. His relationship with Lindy did last a year though. They did get back together in passing months, but recently broke up again and I heard that it was pretty harsh. Coming from Lindy's mouth anyway. She's the one that broke up with him the second time.
He seemed bothered by it for a week or two, but bounced back. He went back to one-night stands and nothing that really mattered. I'll let him do anything that makes him happy I guess. I did get mad at him about it, but he just laughed at me and asked me if I was his mom.
He looked at me now with a slight tilt to his head, "You're thinking."
"Something you should do more often." I mumbled.
"I didn't come here for you to be mean to me." He stuck out his bottom lip playfully.
I sat down on the foot of my bed and pushed at his legs, "Quit being a baby. Don't you have somewhere to be? A sister to annoy?" I turned my body to face him.
He had his arm folded behind his head again and his other hand lain across his stomach, "Why would I do that when I have you to annoy?" He grinned with the tilt of his head.
James did have a habit of annoying me, but I was used to it now. I rather enjoyed it sometimes, "One movie and then you have to go. Got it?"
"Yes, master."
One movie later, and I was rushing James out the front door because Jack texted and said he would be here in ten minutes. James was laughing his way out the door but turned around to bring me into his arms, "I'll see you later, loser."
He unraveled himself from around me, "Make sure you see Lindy while she's here."
"Uh, do you want me to die?" His pointer finger hovered over his face as he drew circles, "She'll ruin my only good quality."
"You have other great qualities, idiot. Now go before I ruin your face."
He turned and started walking down the path, sending a wave over his shoulder. I closed the door and ran upstairs. I fixed my rumpled blanket and checked my reflection in the mirror. My hair fell down my back in cascading waves, actually tamed for once. I left on my jeans and tank top instead of changing into something different.
Like James said, Jack won't care.
My phone buzzed with a message from Jack. He was pulling into the driveway as we speak. I walked to my window and a cab pulled into the McKinnon household. Jack got out of the car and retrieved his luggage before paying the cab driver. I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face.
I walked downstairs and waited the two minutes it took Jack to come over.
He was mid-knock when I swung the door opened and jumped in his arms without saying a word. I held onto him, squeezing like I'd never see him again. His arms wound around me, keeping me steady against him, "I've missed you so much." He said, setting me down on my feet.
His arm was still around my waist and he moved a hand into my hair. He pulled me to his lips, kissing me several times before I could even get a word out, "I missed you more." I breathed, kissing him one more time. "Now we won't have to spend time missing each other."
He smiled against my lips, "Keep reminding me because it doesn't feel real."
We walked backwards into my house and Jack closed the door with his foot, "I couldn't sleep last night because I was so excited."
"You and me both." Both of his hands settled on my waist.
I stepped back and took his hand into mine. I pulled him towards the stairs and into my room. His hands were on me again and he pulled me close. "We can start our lives together now." I said softly, placing my hands on his hips.
"Something is missing though, don't you think?" He asked.
I looked at him curiously, "I don't think so? Everything is kind of perfect right now. I'm not sure how this could get any better." I giggled.
He cocked his head to the side and took a step away from me, "Really? Nothing? Nothing at all could make this any better?"
My heart was pounding against my chest, "Everything is absolutely perfect, Jack." I took the step forward that he took back, but he moved back again, "Did I do something wrong?" I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"No, of course not." He stepped forward and took my hands. He brought me towards the bed. My legs buckled and I dropped on the foot of my bed. "I was going to wait until I took you to dinner tomorrow for three years of being together, but seeing you now, feeling you, and kissing you...I can't wait, Juliet."
I sucked in breath when he kneeled in front of me, "Jackâ"
"I love you so much and I don't think I say it enough. I don't think I show it enough, but I love you. I can't imagine my life without you, and I don't want to. Everything about you drives me crazy in the best possible way." He smiled, "I want to make you mine forever, Juliet. I'm ready for our forever if you are." He put his hand in his jacket pocket and fished something out.
A small, black velvet box lay snug in his hand.
My hand went to my mouth to suppress a cry.
Jack opened the box to reveal the silver band with a small diamond sitting on top. "I know it's nothing major, but when I saw this ring, my first thought was of you and how it would be perfect to show you that I'm serious. That I'm ready to settle down and make you mine forever."
Tears poured down my cheeks as I looked at Jack again. The boy that's lived next door for so long. The boy that would tease me and pull my hair because he thought it was funny. The boy kneeling in front of me asking me to marry him now...
"Yes." I chocked out behind my hand. I dropped my hand into my lap and said it again, "Yes, a million freaking times."
Jack's smile reached his ears and he plucked the ring from the box. He gently picked up my left hand, sliding it down my ring finger. The second the ring touched the base of my finger, I gripped his face and kissed him. I told him how much I loved him. I told him I couldn't wait to start our lives together. "How long have you waited?" I asked, my fingers brushing over his jaw.
"I was going to ask you when we were in the city, but I wasn't prepared to ask you and then have to let you go. I would've been on that plane with you instead."
I laughed, "I'm glad you didn't wait any longer."
"It definitely was not easy." He bumped his nose against mine, "I planned a fantastic dinner in the city tomorrow, but I couldn't wait. I didn't want to. I'm sorry it wasn't as special as plannedâ"
"Are you kidding me?" I dropped my hands from his face and twisted the ring around my fingers, "Everything about this is perfect. The ring, the moment, you..."
"So it did get better, right?" He smirked.
"Is that even a question?" I threw myself at him again and we toppled to the floor.
Jack groaned, but chuckled, "I take that as a definite yes."
I maneuvered myself so I was straddling his lap. I leaned down until we were pressed together again, "Did that really happen?"
His lips curved, "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to ask you."
"I love you, I love you, I love youâ"
He sat up on his elbows and connected our lips before I got another word out. He smiled against my lips and leaned back again. He cupped my face, his lips working effortlessly against mine. I braced myself on my hands resting on the ground on either side of his head.
Jack's hands moved from my face, tracing down my waist and to the small of my back. He pressed my body harder against his and he moaned. I moved my head back a tad, catching a sight of his brown eyes before kissing his jaw, his chin, and the corners of his mouth. I kissed down the middle of his throat, stopping at the top of his button up shirt.
I pushed myself up and stood up off of him. I offered him my hand, which he accepted. But the second we were both standing, he tackled me to the bed. I yelped and let out a giggle I couldn't contain. He was quick with his motions. Kissing my neck, my bare arms, and stopping at my wrists. He left chills in the wake of his kisses.
His lips were on my jaw, kissing down the center of my chest and back up the side of my neck. He kissed the weak spot behind my ear and finally his lips found mine again.
I smoothed my palms up his chest, my fingers finding the first button of his shirt. I fumbled a little with the first two, but had it down with the rest. I pushed the fabric from his shoulders and Jack dropped the shirt beside my bed. After that, we became a mess of tangled limbs, our breath mingled together, our skin came in contact and everything made sense again.
------------
Jack nudged his nose against my neck. He lifted his head slightly, letting his lips brush over my ear. His warm breath trickled down my skin as he nibbled on my ear. It tickled and I couldn't help my laugh. His arms tightened around me and he kissed behind my ear.
I melted against him, letting his body envelop mine. We were a tangled, but comfortable mess. My arm was wrapped around his shoulders as he held onto me. His face was pressed against my neck and his arms encircled me in comfortable warmth. I leaned my head down and kissed the top of his head.
"Where are your grandparents anyway?" Jack asked and tilted his head back to look at me.
"Savannah for the weekend." I grinned. "Which means we have the house to ourselves for another twenty-four hours."
Jack moved back a little and leaned on his elbow. He looked down at me, his finger absentmindedly tracing over my jaw, "How are we going to tell them?"
"We'll set up a dinner with both my grandparents and your parents and tell everyone at once. They'll be happy about it."
"Your grandpa and your dad both know about it..." He bit down on his lip.
My eyes widened, "What? How?"
"I needed their blessing, but between me and you, I would've asked you anyway."
I smiled again, "That was very nice of you to do that and I'm guessing it did go over well."
He nodded, "Your dad was so excited and your grandpa was a little on the hesitant side because of my past." He reached for my hand, "But they know how much I love and care for you. They know I'd do anything to make you happy and make sure there's always a smile of your face. I know we'll fight, just like any other couple. Just the thought of losing you is something I can't bear to think about."
Tears threatened to spill again, "I don't know what I'd do without you." I whispered, searching his eyes. "You're one of a kind, McKinnon."
He smiled and leaned down to kiss my lips, "You are too. That's why I need you all to myself." He gripped the edge of the blanket and threw it over us.
I giggled as he attacked my face with more chaste kisses.
"I don't share." He muttered against my cheek, "You're all mine and I'm all yours, Juliet."
My heart swelled and my lips met his.
We eventually made it out of bed and down stairs. By then, night had fallen. I decided to just order a pizza instead of cooking. We huddled on the couch and found a movie to watch. Everything about this felt so unbelievably right. From having Jack next to me, to our future, and everything in between.
