Chapter 16
The Betas Alpha
Carson^^
Jay's POV
"Where is Carson?" My father asked when I walked into his house without my precious mate at my side.
Before I could even answer my mother was speaking, "he better be on his way. Dinner is almost ready and now that's he's officially part of this family he can't bail."
"You're acting like he wasn't part of it before," I commented while stealing a piece of watermelon.
"He was, but now that the two of you are mates it's official. Carson can't have a reason to miss dinner with us." My father answered. It was true, my parents were Carson's second parents from the time he was born until now. The only difference now was that they were now his in-laws.
As if on cue, Carson walked through the door with a small smile on his perfect face.
"Hey, sorry I'm a couple of minutes late." He apologized as walked into the kitchen to find my family and me standing.
"Oh, it's fine dear. We were just saying that you couldn't bail on us. How are you though? I feel like I haven't seen you in weeks." My mother fussed whilst walking over to my mate and hugging him.
"I'm fine, sorry I've just been busy," Carson said sheepishly.
"Too busy to come and visit me, hmm, now you have to because we're in-laws and it's only polite." My mother ruffled his hair before going over to the oven and taking dinner out.
"You're acting like I never saw you before," Carson responded as he walked next to me and leaned back against the counter.
"I haven't seen you in a while. Ever since you two found out you're mates actually. We've been in the same room but haven't actually talked. Now we get to talk all night." My mother was enthusiastic and her and my father brought dinner out to the table.
"How did talking with your dad go?" I asked quietly. Before we had to come over for dinner Carson wanted to go talk to his dad about his mom.
"He wasn't home, Zayn was though. We talked for a bit and I had a piece of apple pie." Mom amour explained with a giddy smile on his face. Ever since we were little kids Carson has always loved apple pie. I remember the one time that we tried to make it.
Flashback: they're six years old.
"That's too much sugar!" Carson screeched while I continued to pour more and more in.
"You can never have too much sugar, so I beg to differ." Sugar was practically my lifeline. Anything sweet, if I was being honest.
"Ugh, just put the crust on it after you mix it," Carson demanded before he began wiping up the mess we had made.
"You're demanding. Since when are you the queen?" I questioned as I pressed down the top crust with my fingers.
"Since forever. You can be the prince I guess." His nose turned up at broken eggs all over the counter from the dough.
"If I'm going to be anyone it will be a king. Then we're equals." I moved the chair I was standing on over to the microwave so I could try heating up the pie.
"So now we're married?"
"Yes." Was my simple answer.
"So if I'm the queen why am I the one cleaning up. You should be doing that." As he said his last sentence I put the pie in the microwave and pushed some buttons to make it go for five minutes. That should be long enough.
"We're equals, meaning we both have to put in work for this. But, since you are my queen I won't make you do too much. You can just sit there and I will break my back trying to please you, your majesty." Carson giggled as he walked over to the trash can and threw away a bunch of paper towels.
"Why thank you, King." Carson looked over his shoulder and batted his eyelashed playfully. Both of us started giggling hysterically.
"No need to thank me, my queen. As long as you are happy I am happy." I bowed causing Carson to giggle even more.
"Stop it," He giggled out as I stood up.
"Never, Queen."
End of flashback
"Come on Queen, we have dinner to eat." I joked as I led Carson to the dining room with my hand on the small of his back. It took him a second to register what I was referencing but when he did he starting laughing hysterically.
"Oh my, I forgot about that part." He giggled out adorably. Both my parents' attention turned towards us as we walked into the room.
"Sit sit, we have a lot to talk about." My father ushered with his hand. He was at the head of the table with my mom to his right and Carson and me to his left.
"So, you two will be the next alpha and luna, meaning we need to do the ceremony sometime soon. Preferably after you, two have mated, but we can figure that out later." The ceremony my father was talking about was how a new alpha, luna, beta, or gamma became that person. It was a long ceremony that passed on the title to the next. An alpha could do it without their luna, or they could wait until they found them. It all depended on the situation. My father didn't wait because his father, my grandfather, was too weak to continue.
Usually, the new alpha, beta, and gamma are all given their title at the same time, but sometimes one is given before the other(s). Miles was given the gamma title a couple of months ago under special circumstances, but he will have to pass that title onto our new gamma and get the beta title from Sean, Carson's Dad. My father will pass down the alpha title to me and my mother will pass down the luna title to Carson. It does help if we're mated because we'd be stronger together already, but it's not required. And I'm not going to pressure Carson to mate with me until he's ready, comfortable, and in a better place.
"We don't have to do it right away, but at some point in the near future you both need to start preparing." He continued as he made his plate. Everyone nodded before we all started eating.
"Carson, why don't you come to the daycare with me sometime this coming up week? The kids will love playing with you and it will give you some sort of idea as to what you need to be prepared for." My mother offered with a kind smile. She had always loved Carson, far before we even found out we're mates. She used to say that he was soft and sweet, which I agree with full heartily.
"I would love to, but I have...some things going on this week so I don't know exactly what day or days I'll be able to, but I definitely will." Carson was eating, just not a lot. As long as he was eating something I'd be happy, and he did just have a piece of apple pie.
"Of course, stop by whenever. I try to go every day ever at least for a few minutes, but you can stay for however long. The teachers will love it." My mother was giddy as she talked about the kids. She's always loved children, but because of some medical issues with her, I was the only one she could have.
"I'll make sure to hang out with them for a little bit."
"Good good, you can also cut back on training a bit. I'm not saying you have to stop indefinitely, but you're not required to train as you have been. Also with...stuff that will be going on you won't want to go train as much." My father paused for a second to look at my mother who just shrugged. "Your body will be going through some changes-"
"I swear to fucking god, if you give us a puberty talk right now I will walk out." I groaned making my mother kick me from under the table.
"No swearing and he-both of you need to know this. And yes we know that you both have a basic understanding but there is more than just what you know. Especially because he was meant to be beta but will now be luna and needing to provide an heir for you," My mother explained with a sympathetic smile; not even towards me, she was looking at my perfect mate who looked as if he wanted to be anywhere else.
"Now, as I was saying," my father turned to glare at me making me glare right back at him. "Carson, your body will change in order to allow you to carry children. You should be expecting to notice some changes soon, and you will go into heat soon too. I don't know if everything will be delayed because of of...everything, but your body will still go through some changes. The most visible one will be your hips widening and your scent changing."
"You better not be noticing these things," I growled with a pout. Carson turned to look at me with his eyebrows drawn together.
"You will be the first one to notice, Jamison. His scent change will be small at first, but become more prominent quickly. That will make your body to...become pregnant." My father sighed. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Carson's red face that seemed to be getting darker by the second.
"We get it," I said through clenched teeth. My father simply smiled before continuing.
"When you mate the first time you most likely won't get pregnant, but you should still be careful and prepared. Now we can stop. Help clean up dinner before you two leave." He finished as he stood up.
