Chapter 24
The Betas Alpha
Carson^^
Jay's POV
The last week and a half had been eventful, to say the least. Carson was finally on his plan to help him recover from his eating disorder and going to therapy twice a week; while things weren't necessarily perfect, they were better. It was an uphill battle, to say the least, but that was okay. He and his dad went to the follow-up appointment with his nutritionist, Mike, yesterday because I've been busy preparing for the alpha title transfer; I was going to be the alpha tonight.
"Where ya going?" Carson groaned when I kicked one of the many boxes spread throughout the room, on my way out the door. It was only 8:00 in the morning, but I had some final details to sort through with my dad before we finally transferred the title in 12 hours.
"Just to finish up some stuff before tonight, don't worry your pretty little head about it. Go back to bed." I walked over and placed a kiss on top of his bed hair before heading back towards the door.
"Okay, have fun; I'll find you later," Carson mumbled before turning back over and curling into my side of the bed making me smile unconsciously.
"Let me know when you eat breakfast," and with that, I was heading downstairs and over towards the meeting house where the leaders' offices were along with the meeting halls used for when other packs came in. I was meeting my dad, Sean, Miles, and Jack-our new gamma seeing as Miles would be moving up to beta now.
We decided to pass the titles sooner than later because we felt it was just time at this point, and Carson and I agreed it would help give him something concrete for focus on while he was going through his recovery process and sorting through his life with his therapist; she also agreed it would be nice to give him something else, aside from himself, to focus on. Luna duties would be perfect for him.
Mike, his nutritionist, was as proud as ever with the progress and promise he was making in such a short period of time. Not going to lie, he did throw up a couple of times, but it became easier and he started going to me when he felt the need to do so. Carson has been stronger than I ever thought someone could be. He was opening up about some things that had happened to me and his dad, and I know his dad was both angry and hurt that he was seemingly blind to everything before.
They were beginning to repair their relationship, however, and I know both were starting to get as close as they were when Carson was growing up.
On the other hand, I was ready to kill his so-called-mother for making someone so precious hurt as she had. It also hurt to know this was all going on while we were together pretty much every day, and he always had some excuse that I believed without questioning the repetitiveness of the excuses. It made me sick to think about it.
"Can you believe how grown up they all are? It feels like just yesterday they were little boys running around the lands refusing to put clothes on, and tonight Jay will be the alpha, Miles will be beta, and Carson will be taking over as luna ." I could hear our parents talking as I approached the alpha office. My dad was moving all of his things out and into a house he had built a few years back for him and my mom for when I took over.
I walked into the office to see Sean, Zayn, my parents, Miles, and Jack all helping put things into boxes to be carried over. Starting tonight, this would officially be my office, and then it would be my kids. It was an odd feeling because all I had ever known was my dad in this office; as much as I dreamed about becoming the alpha and eventually taking over, I never thought to be standing here.
"Are yours and Carson's things packed? I'd like to get that stuff moved into the house now that it's painted." My mom asked when she saw I was there. I nodded and her and let her know that we had some people helping move everything over around noon; it gave Carson some time to wake up and eat some before things needed to start getting done.
"Good, now come help your dad and everyone else clean this office out. I do not know why he ever let it get this messy," My mom threw some serious side-eye at her mate who never let her come in here and organize everything.
My dad just looked clueless.

And just like that, the day flew by. My ceremony wasn't for another two hours, but everything that needed to get done was now done, and I could take a moment and relax. Preferably, with my mate who seemed to disappear after we got our stuff moved into our new house.
I am proud of him and would like to tell him that before we get busy tonight. Zander chimed in with a grunt.
I agree. I'm sure he'll show up in a bit.
Before Zander could comment any further, Carson came into the house with a bag and a smile upon his pretty face.
"Hey, I was just looking for you," I said closing a box I was going through with of things in it.
"Yeah, hi, do you want to go on a walk? I got something for you," Carson's face looked a bit flushed and his eyes seemed dazed, but I nodded nonetheless.
My pretty mate kept the bag in his hand as we headed throughout the pack land. It was nice and peaceful throughout the forest; the majority of the pack was scattered throughout the mainland hanging out and helping prepare for the ceremony tonight. It was a big deal, and everyone enjoyed playing a role in the event.
The two of us ended up at the cliff where we took a seat and just enjoyed the view.
"You're going to be the alpha of the pack tonight. That's absolutely insane," Carson sighed, "I can remember when we used to play, pretending we were alpha and beta, and now here we are."
It was our favorite game when we were younger; we all acted like we were finally in charge. Picked new mates every time depending on who wanted to play with us. Now here we were; I was becoming alpha and Carson is going to be my mate.
"Uh, so you know how you gave me that ring?" Carson asked, making me nod. He recently took to wearing it as a necklace as he got a bit more confident being mates with me.
"Well, I wanted to get you something too. It's nothing much, really just something small because you're going to be the alpha-"
"I'm sure it's great no matter what," Carson looked a bit nervous as he handed me the little black bag. Taking it from him, I grabbed the box out and gave him a questioning look. Carson looked at me expectedly as he waited for me open the box.
Inside was a leather braided bracelet with our packs crest hanging off of it on a pendant the size of a penny; it was gorgeous.
"It has clover and some other things braided through it that are thought to bring good luck and prosperity. The witch I got it from gave me a whole list of what it's good for, but I can't remember everything right now. I thought it'd be nice, ya know? Kinda like your good luck charm as you become alpha," Carson was blushing while picking at the grass under us.
"Witch?" I questioned. There weren't many around here that anyone knew about due to people killing them off, and you had to be on good terms to get them to do something nice for you.
"Yeah, Ken, the medic, he knows a small coven not too far from here that were happy to help me when they realized I couldn't find something for you. They enchanted it too! So you can shift without anything happening to it; they did the same for my necklace," he paused for a moment to reach up and touch it, "I can find something else if you don't like it, though," Carson finally met my eyes with a shy smile. I couldn't help but kiss him; it was perfect.
"Put it on me?" My mate took the untied bracelet from my hands and pulled my left hand to rest on his lap to tie the leather around my wrist. The two of us stayed there for a few more moments, just enjoying each other for the time being.
Carson and Jamison, come back towards the mainland. You both need to get ready for the title passing, and we would like to have a few minutes to talk. My dad's voice rang through both of our heads. I stood up, pulling Carson with me, before picking him up bridal style and swinging him around.
"Jay, what are you doing?" He giggled out as I began to carry him on the path out of the forest.
"Carrying my mate like the oh so wonderful alpha I am," we both were laughing like fools as we came up to the mainland where the finishing touches were happening for the ceremony in an hour; it was nerve-wracking, knowing I was going to be in charge of all these people soon.
I saw Miles and Jack talking with our parents, so I reluctantly put Carson down and pulled him over to where they all were.
"Miles and Jack will have their ceremony tomorrow night and Jay will be having his tonight; technically Carson will too, but the official luna title will not be his until they mate, any questions?" My dad was saying as Carson and I came to stand in front of them. Nobody spoke up, so he had us follow behind him to finish up the rest of the preparations.
An alpha is only good if they help with everything.
-- -- --
At eight o'clock on the dot, the entire pack was gathered around the small stage waiting for my parents and me to make our way through the crowd. We were all going around and talking with different members as the senior elder within our pack got ready to pass the title. Carson was not with me at this moment because we haven't mated yet, so while he is going to be the acting luna, the title will not be his until we mate. He will still be recognized because he is my mate, however.
As we finished greeting everyone, I could feel the nerves beginning to set. My dad took a war-torn and broken pack and built it into a strong, respected, and humble family. From the bottom of my heart, I know he would do whatever needed to protect each member. Now, it was my turn.
"Thank you, everyone, for joining us on this beautiful evening. I am proud to be passing the title of the alpha of this pack onto on son, Jamison, and I am grateful that you all can bear witness," my dad begun, drawing everyone's attention to us on the stage. From the corner of my eye, I could see Carson smiling up at me; it was reassuring knowing my mate was standing by my side even if not literally.
He's going to make a wonderful luna; he already loves playing with the kids and keeping peace with everyone. Zander was proud. I was proud.
"If there are any objections for the leader of the Blue Woods Pack to be Jamison, son of Erik, speak up now. You must be willing to challenge him if you shall object," the senior of the pack's voice broke me out of my thoughts with Zander, waiting for someone to speak up; however, not a single person looked apprehensive of me taking over when I looked out.
The senior continued going through the steps of blessing my parents and allowing the pack to thank them for their services as leaders before bringing me forward to go through a similar ritual.
"Today, my boy, you leave behind your boyhood in order to lead this pack in amazing ways. Your father was able to fix this pack from a young age, and we all expect you to continue in his legacy; you were raised by greatness, so you will do great things." The senior gave me a warm smile before turning my father and me to face each other.
"Alpha Erik, we thank you for everything you have done as leader of the Blue Woods Pack, but now it is time your son follows in your footsteps. Please willingly pass the title of alpha onto your first-child, Jamison." With that, my father took my hand in his and passed his title; officially releasing him and my mom of their duties.
"I hereby step down from my duties as the alpha of the Blue Woods Pack and pass the role to my son, Jamison," Both of our eyes turned red as I felt Zander howl in my mind. My father's eyes dimmed before mine as we both turned to face the pack; my pack.
Everyone was cheering as I stepped off the stage and began shaking the rest of the elder's hands in congratulations. When I was done shaking everyone's hands, I quickly went over to my luna and pulled him into a kiss.
"You're the alpha," he whispered with a blush as we pulled away from each other.
"You're the luna," I responded as quietly. Carson pulled away slightly with a bit of a grim smile.
"Not yet, you heard what your dad said, we have to mate first. I'm sorry; I just-"
"Don't apoligize, you're still my luna." Even under the moonlight, Carson's blush was as prominant as ever and he looked more beautiful than ever.
"And you're my alpha."
