Chapter 100
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
At Mrs. Smithâs words, a trace of hesitation flashed across Rachelâs eyes.
Old Mr. Smithâs birthday had been held grandly in the past three years, but it had nothing to do with
Rachel.
The Smith family always kept her in the family because they were worried that Rachelâs background
would be ridiculed.
Would Mrs. Smith be so kind as to ask her to stay for dinner?
Narrowing her eyes, Rachel gave Mrs. Smith a deep and long look and said, âMrs. Smith, I appreciate
your kindness, but I gotta go
now.â
Facing her indifferent attitude, Mrs. Smith had a hint of displeasure emerging in her eyes. âI know you
hate me in your heart. I want to make up to you for the past. Are you gonna turn me down?â
âJust because you want to make up to me doesnât mean Iâll let it go and forgive you,â Rachel said in a
cold voice and walked away.
Rachel had never owed the Smith family a thing. Instead, the Smith family owed her too much.
Perhaps it was because of what Rachel had been through in her childhood that she had trouble
accepting othersâ kindness, so she would remember their kindness and charity.
During the Smith familyâs most difficult time, Rachel stepped forward bravely. However, in the end, not
only did the Smith family not show any appreciation, but they even devalued her three years of hard
work. They treated her sincerity toward Louis as oneâsided.
From the moment Rachel broke up with Louis, she and the Smith family were like fire and water. It was
impossible for her to be with Louis again.
If Old Mr. Smith had not personally made the call, she would
never have set foot in the Smith family.
Without any hesitation, Rachel walked toward Old Mr. Smithâs courtyard room.
As Old Mr. Smith got old, he grew weary of the lively atmosphere. Instead, he liked to stay in a
secluded garden, lie on a rattan chair, listen to music, and drink coffee.
As expected, when Rachel arrived at the small garden, she saw Old Mr. Smith sitting on a rattan chair
from afar. He was holding a birdcage in his hand and playing with the parrot in it.
This parrot was specially found by Rachel back then, but it had been raised by Old Mr. Smith all these
years.
Looking at the parrotâs smooth fur, she knew that it had been carefully raised.
âMiss Grey, youâre finally here. Old Mr. Smith has been talking about you all morning.â When the nanny
saw Rachel, her face was filled with joy.
Old Mr. Smith hurriedly put down the birdcage in his hand and sat up from the rattan chair. With a
smile, he waved at Rachel. âYouâre. finally here. Youâve made me wait.â
As he spoke, he clenched his fists and coughed a few times.
âAre you feeling unwell?â
âItâs an old problem.â
Old Mr. Smith looked at Rachelâs worried expression and hurriedly explained, âI know my body. Itâs not
a big problem. It wonât kill me.â
âPfft, pfft, pfft!â Rachel turned her head and spat a few times. She darted Old Mr. Smith an angry look
and said, âToday is your birthday. Itâs so unlucky to mention that.â
Old Mr. Smith was amused by her actions and laughed heartily. Then, he held her hand and patted it
gently. The smile on his face faded a little as he said, âI know about you and Louis, I donât ask
you to forgive anyone. I just hope that you can get over it as soon as possible and not make things
difficult for yourself.â
Rachel flashed him a smile. She knew that Old Mr. Smith cared about her.
âI was struggling with how to put this to you before. Since youâve mentioned, this is much easier for
you.â
As Rachel spoke, she took out a red brocade box from her bag. Inside the box was a green bracelet.
âSince Iâve broken up with Louis, Iâm supposed to return this to you.â
Seeing this bracelet, Old Mr. Smith was not happy at all. Instead, his heart felt even heavier. He sighed
deeply. âRachel, Iâve seen everything youâve done in the past three years. The Smith family owes you a
huge favor, and so does Louis. We can never repay the debt we owe you in this lifetime.
âSince this bracelet is given to you, itâs yours. Keep it well. Treat it
memento that I left for you.â
