Chapter 102
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 102
âThereâs no hurry. Thereâs still time for you to eat,â Old Mr. Smith said calmly.
Jane Smithâs lips curled into a satisfied smile. When she raised her glass, she raised her eyebrows at
Rachel Grey, who was sitting near and facing her. There was a hint of provocation in her eyes.
In the past, Rachel had never attended Old Mr. Smithâs birthday banquet, so she naturally prepared a
gift this year.
Jane especially went to look at the item that Rachel had sent. The packaging of the box looked
ordinary, and it was evident that it was not anything valuable.
Rachel noticed Janeâs gaze. Rachel just calmly picked up the glass of water and took a sip.
After the gathering ended, the servants presented Janeâs gifts. There were at least dozens
of them.
The relatives opened the carefully selected gifts one by one, placing them on the table for Old Mr.
Smith to look at.
As everyone knew, Old Mr. Smith loved paintings and art pieces, so most of the congratulatory gifts
were to his liking.
Surprisingly, Mr. Lewis from a powerful corporation even gifted a famous Baroque sculpture.
Jane unwrapped the gift that Olivia Cruise had meticulously prepared. âGrandpa, do you like this
painting?â Jane asked.
Jane handed it over to Old Mr. Smith.
Old Mr. Smith looked up at the painting and was overjoyed. âThis is⦠a painting from the Baroque
period?â
Then Rachel raised her head and smiled meaningfully.
Olivia replied, âYes, Grandpa Smith. I specially visited a collector and bought this painting. from him. I
hope you like it.â
âThis painting is very valuable. Whatâs there not to like about this?â Old Mr. Smith joked.
He carefully held the painting. It was not exactly exquisite, but even its canvas seemed to be made of
special material.
Before the painting fell into the hands of others, it was monopolized by the nobles. They were a
common gift among the nobles then, so commoners rarely came across them.
Old Mr. Smith looked at it repeatedly and caressed it lovingly. Even though he did not like Olivia, he
could not help but say sincerely, âThank you, Miss Cruise.â
âIâm glad you like it,â Olivia said. She appeared to be generous, seemingly not asking for anything in
return.
However, other gifts paled in comparison to Oliviaâs gift.
âOlivia has lost a lot of weight recently. She refused to say anything when I asked her. I see. she has
been trying to think of a way to please Old Mr. Smith. What an affectionate child.â
With Mrs. Smith praising Olivia, some also pitched in, âMrs. Smith is so lucky. Her son is outstanding,
and even her future daughterâinâlaw is competent. How enviable.â
âIf I get such a considerate daughterâinâlaw, I might thank the gods.â
âGood girls like Oliva are hard to come by. Louis, you must hurry up. Otherwise, youâll regret it when
Olivia is sick of you.â
âIn my opinion, Olivia and Louis are about the same age. The two of them grew up together. They
should get engaged as soon as possible to carry on the Smith family bloodline.â
Seeing that everyone was being increasingly straightforward, Olivia shyly leaned into Louisâs arms.
However, she vaguely realized that he was a little distracted.
Olivia leaned against Louisâs chest and followed his line of sight. Then she saw Rachel sitting not far
away. Olivia secretly gritted her teeth, but there was still a gentle smile on her face. âLouis, whatâs
wrong?â
Louis snapped back to his senses and heard his second aunt say, âLouis, Olivia is in love with you. You
canât let her down.â
Louis tightened his grip on Oliviaâs waist. He looked at the woman in his arms with a gentle smile. âI
definitely wonât.â
Seeing this, the Smith familyâs relatives revealed ambiguous smiles.
As everyone spoke, they secretly sized up Rachel, who was sitting not far away, trying to spot any
change in her expression.
However, Rachel just sipped her tea as usual, as if she was uninvolved.
Everyone could not help but purse their lips. They were amazed at how Rachel could pretend to be
unfazed. They wanted to see how much longer she could put up the act.
Then Jane said casually, âMiss Grey, I havenât seen your gift. Speaking of which, this is your first time
attending Grandpaâs birthday banquet. I think your gift must be an extraordinary
one!â
As Jane spoke, she looked at Rachel with a smile on her face. There was a hint of schadenfreude in
her eyes.
âItâs nothing special,â Rachel said flatly.
