Chapter 170
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
As soon as David finished speaking, the atmosphere at the table instantly. became so quiet that one
could hear a pin drop.
Everyone looked at Rachel with a hint of curiosity.
Everyone who sat at the same table with Old Mr. Shain was directly related to the Shain family in
Seaxus.
Therefore, David was not a stranger to them. On the other hand, how could they not be curious when
Mr. Jones, who had never been close to women, personally invited Rachel to sit beside him?
Under everyoneâs watchful gaze, Rachelâs red lips curled up slightly into a faint smile, and walked
calmly towards the chair that was pulled out.
âRaeâRae!â Old Mr. Johnson suddenly called out to Rachel with a serious expression. Although Old Mr.
Johnson was not scolding Rachel, one could tell that Old Mr. Johnson was not pleased by his tone.
Rachel turned to look at Old Mr. Johnson.
Initially, Rachel only suspected that her maternal grandfather had some conflict with David. However,
Rachel was certain now that her maternal grandfather did not like that Rachel was being close to
David, and was strongly against the idea.
âCould it be that my maternal grandfather knew about my relationship with David?â Rachel pondered.
However, Rachelâs intuition told her that things might not be as simple as she thought.
Old Mr. Johnsonâs eyes met Rachelâs probing gaze and knew that he had overreacted just now.
Old Mr. Johnson regained his composure and his facial muscles visibly relaxed. âThat seat is not a
place where you should be sitting at. Come and sit beside me.â
David said, âItâs fine. Miss Grey and I hit it off at first sight. Itâs my honor to have her accompany me.â
As David had put his words so bluntly, Old Mr. Johnson could only give
1. up.
As soon as Rachel had sat down, she could smell Davidâs fresh and wooden scent. The fragrance was
unique to David and was now surrounding Rachel.
Rachel turned to look at the man beside her subconsciously.
David took off his diamond cuffs slowly and rolled up his sleeves, revealing a portion of his arm. The
faintly bulging veins on his muscular arm made David look especially powerful and strong. David was
just like a cheetah who was lying in waiting and was ready to attack anytime. No one would have dared
to underestimate him.
âMiss Grey, do you have something to tell me?â
Hearing Davidâs words, everyone at the table turned to look at Rachel in unison.
Old Mr. Johnson also turned to look at Rachel.
Rachel, who was sharp and clever, noticed the flash of unease and nervousness in her maternal
grandfatherâs eyes. Several thoughts and doubts flashed in Rachelâs mind.
Rachel really wanted to ask David and her maternal grandfather if they were hiding something from
her. Unfortunately, now was not the best time to do so.
After calming herself down, Rachel let out a smile and said, âThank you for your kindness, Mr. Jones.â
Eddie, who was standing behind Rachel and was serving her tea, almost spilled the tea as his hands
trembled.
With a perplexed look, Eddie took a quick glance at Rachel as he thought to himself. âWhatâs Miss Grey
doing?â
Hearing Rachelâs words, David slowly lifted his head. David looked at Rachel with his dark eyes as he
studied her. A few seconds later, the faint smile on Davidâs face slightly deepened and he said, âThereâs
no need to thank me.â
Due to Davidâs arrival, everyone was more or less unable to feel at ease and felt restrained.
The tense atmosphere continued until Iris, who was wearing a gown. walked over with the groom for a
toast.
Other than a few elders who remained seated, almost everyone stood up. However, David was an
exception and did not stand.
But even so, no one dared to say anything.
After all, David was not someone they could afford to offend.
The moment when Iris saw David, she was slightly taken aback. Then, the corners of her mouth curled
upwards as Iris asked, âMr. David, why are you here alone? Whereâs Louis?â
âIris, donât be rude!â Old Mr. Shainâs expression was stern as he berated.
However, Iris ignored Old Mr. Shain.
www
Iris was the only girl in her generation in the Shain family. Hence, Iris was doted on and spoilt by the
Shain family.
One could also say that the reason why the Shain family had its current social status was partially due
to the main familyâs love for Iris, and was willing to accommodate her family too.
Iris had stayed by Jimmyâs side since young, and everyone had doted on her as if she was their little
sister. Hence, David was not a stranger to Iris.
