Chapter 172
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Rachel immediately detected the manâs evasiveness through his words.
Clearly, David was not going to be forthcoming without prompting.
This made Rachel feel a little depressed and unhappy.
She felt like everyone around her knew something she did not, which was a very unpleasant feeling.
After hanging up, she lay on her back and stared blankly at the ceiling above.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open.
She sat up abruptly and saw Lucas walking in. She gasped, âWhat are you doing here?â
âTo take you out and clear your mind?â Lucas pulled out a chair and sat down with his legs wide open.
Rachel looked at him, feeling very irritated and indeed in need of venting her emotions.
She hesitated for a moment and suggested, âThe usual?â
âSure,â Lucas said.
The two of them walked out one after the other and bumped into Old Mr. Johnson coming out of the
room.
Old Mr. Johnson furrowed his brows at Rachelâs attire and then turned to Lucas with a stern
expression. âAre you taking Rachel out to have fun again?â
âGrandpa, weâre just going out for a walk,â Rachel grinned and hooked her arm around his, supporting
him as they walked down the stairs. âIâll be staying at Uncle Tomâs tonight, but I will come back this
weekend to have dinner with you.â
Her words left Old Mr. Johnson speechless.
He looked into Rachelâs eyes which were strikingly similar to Sophiaâs and sighed helplessly. âBe
careful and stay safe.â
âDonât worry.â Lucas said, âAs long as RaeâRaeâs with me, she will be fine.â
Old Mr. Johnson sneered coldly. âYou have the nerve to speak. Itâs only when youâre with her that she
acts unruly like you.â
âAlright, alright. Letâs go.â Lucas wouldâve developed a headache if he had continued to listen to Old Mr.
Johnsonâs nagging. He quickly tugged on Rachelâs wrist and left.
As Old Mr. Johnson watched Rachel leave, his face immediately became solemn.
â
âSir, are you worried about the matter of Miss Rachelâs marriage?â the butler asked.
Old Mr. Johnson turned to look at him and sighed. âWhat do you think of it?â
The butler glanced at him and smiled knowingly. âIn my humble opinion, our children have their own
destiny. Sir, why worry about it?â
Old Mr. Johnson pursed his lips and remained silent, turning his head to gaze into the distant horizon.
He watched the birds flying in the sky, and a hint of imperceptible loneliness appeared in his eyes.
Of course he understood what the butler was saying, but he just couldnât bear to let go.
At five in the afternoon, Lucas drove Rachel to the Apex Supercar Society.
After both of them had changed their attires, two cars were brought out by the club staff.
Rachel walked straight to the deep purple Lycan after adjusting her outfit. Lucas naturally opened the
door of the sleek black Shelby and got into it. He lowered the car window, rested his hand on it, and
gave Rachel a provocative look. âRaeâRae, donât cry if you lose later.â
âStop talking nonsense!â Rachel averted her gaze.
She focused on the countdown ahead and then floored the accelerator.
The car took off like a rocket.
Lucas guessed that Rachel would be unfamiliar with the car since she had
not driven for many years.
Unexpectedly, she was performing exceedingly well.
With clean cornering and expert use of racing techniques, Rachel smoothly gained speed through two
consecutive turns.
Lucasâ grin disappeared as he saw Rachel about to outmaneuver him in a
turn.
They were locked in a tight battle, both refusing to give up any ground.
This spectacle instantly piqued the curiosity of other members of the club.
