Chapter 187
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Louis understood Old Mr. Smithâs conjecture. A hint of shock flashed across his eyes. âAre you
suspecting that Rachel Grey is a member of the Johnson family?â
Old Mr. Smith frowned slightly and looked at Louis with a solemn expression. He nodded lightly.
Louis could not help but think of Rachel being treated as a distinguished guest by the merchants and
chatting happily with Linda Galler.
He couldnât help but become silent, deep in thought.
A strange stillness fell across the room.
However, very quickly, Old Mr. Smith shook his head again. âThis doesnât make sense. Everyone
knows that Old Mr. Johnson dotes on this granddaughter very much. Although she has an outsiderâs
surname, she has always been the apple of the Johnson familyâs eye and has been long announced as
the Johnson familyâs successor. If sheâs really a member of the Johnson family, with Old Mr. Johnsonâs
love for her, why would he let her stay in the Smith family for so many years?â
Regarding Rachelâs identity, it seemed to have hit into a dead end. No matter what, it did not make
sense.
âMaybe all of this is just a coincidence?â Louis guessed. âIâve investigated her identity and background.
There shouldnât be any mistake.â
When he said this, he felt inexplicably uneasy.
Old Mr. Smith put down the cup in his hand. âYou still have to spend some effort to investigate this
matter again in private.â
âI understand.â Louis pursed his lips and hesitated for half a second before continuing, âActually, I still
have something I need your help with.â
âYou want me to contact Rachel?â Old Mr. Smith looked up at Louis.
Louis met the old manâs sharp gaze and felt a little ashamed. âI tried to get her forgiveness, but Rachel
insisted on not reconciling with me. Thatâs why I have no choice but to ask Grandpa for help.â
Old Mr. Smith understood Rachelâs character.
Once she hated someone, it was very difficult to get her forgiveness.
Originally, Rachelâs feelings for the Smith family were not that deep. Coupled with Louisâ betrayal, it
was enough for her to completely give up on the Smith family.
After that, Jane Smith had made a scene at the birthday banquet. He wanted to protect Jane and retain
the Smith familyâs dignity.
Now, that girlâs attitude towards him was not as good as before.
Even so, under the premise of choosing between the Smith family and Rachel, he would still choose
the Smith family without hesitation.
After all, it was the blood and sweat of a few generations.
âYou can go back first. Iâll handle this matter.â
After Louis left, the servant looked at the hesitant Old Mr. Smith and could not help but say, âSir, if you
make the request, it will really ruin the past three years of friendship with Miss Grey.â
How could Old Mr. Smith not know? However, in the face of the Smith familyâs future, he had no choice
but to choose this friendship with Rachel.
Finally, he dialed Rachel.
âRaeâRae, itâs me.â
Upon hearing Old Mr. Smithâs voice, Rachel was not particularly surprised. Her tone was even and
calm. âMay I help you with anything?â
âItâs nothing serious. I just wanted to ask if you can attend the Smith Groupâs anniversary celebration
this weekend.â
Rachel twirled a pen between her fingers. âThe Smith family has nothing to do with me, so Iâm not
obligated to participate.â
âRaeâRae, I know you hate the Smith family. Grandpa is willing to make it up to you as much as
possible, so can youâ¦â
âThanks for your care over the three years in the Smith family. I can agree to one of your requests.
However, after this request, we will not longer have anything to do with each other.â Rachel interrupted
Old Mr. Smith coldly. âAs for this request, I hope you can consider it carefully before contacting me.â
With that, she hung up.
Mary propped her chin on her hand and looked at her. She could not help but click her tongue. âWhen
will you change your reluctance to owe people favors?â
