Chapter 35
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Instantly, everyone in the meeting room was struck silent.
Rachel raised her eyes and looked indifferently at Louis. âHasnât Miss Green already made it very
clear?â she asked. âIf you need me to repeat it, I donât mind.â
âJeez, Louis said. His chin tensed, and his hand on the chair tightened as he spoke in a low voice. âOur
relationship issues are private matters. If it werenât for you stirring up trouble, how would Miss Green
know? Moreover, do you think anyone would believe that Miss Green suddenly withdrew her
investment just because of our relationship problems?â
As she sat on her chair facing the reprimand from Louis, a trace of a mocking smile appeared on
Rachelâs face.
Stirring up trouble?
It turned out that in Louisâs eyes, Rachel was the kind of person who stirred up trouble.
Upon hearing that, the others in the room looked at Rachel with disapproval.
âMiss Grey, we should prioritize the overall situation. Your personal relationship with Mr. Smith is a
private matter. As someone who is aware- and thoughtful, you should understand the importance of
putting the collective interest first. How could you bring this matter to the investors? Itâs simply
senseless.â
âI opposed the idea of allowing a woman with no background or qualifications to enter the company
from the beginning. But you didnât listen to my advice. Now youâve let a woman manipulate and control
all of you. Letâs see how you clean up this mess.â

âShe was able to instigate Miss Green to withdraw her investment with just her words. Who knows what
methods she may use to persuade other investors to do the same behind our backs?â
Upon hearing the othersâ words, Rachel felt dejected.
That sense of dejection was not quite the same as feeling betrayed by Louis.
She felt that all of her efforts were in vain. In the end, she only managed
to move herself.
Louis looked at the silent Rachel. His eyes were filled with anger. âRachel, say something.â he said.
Rachelâs face was marked with a mocking smile as she looked at Louis sitting in the main seat. âItâs
your fault. Why should I bear the
consequences of your mistake?â she replied. âAs the direct person in charge of the company, you
should know that your image and reputation directly affect the company. You donât even have this
awareness. What qualifies you to sit in that position now?â
The resounding words echoed through the air, instantly silencing the conference room and making it so
quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
To everyoneâs surprise, Rachel, who was usually composed and wellâmannered, spoke rudely to Louis,
openly questioning his competence and intelligence.
This was no different than slapping Louis in front of everyone.
Louisâs handsome face suddenly turned dark, and he glared at Rachel with a gloomy expression.
âRachel Grey,â Louis said as he gritted his teeth and suppressed the anger that was about to burst.
âYouâre just a department manager in this company. Your top priority should be to do your duty well. Itâs
not your place to lecture me.â
âDo my duty well?â Rachel raised an eyebrow and looked at Louis sarcastically. âWas it my duty to
come up with strategies for the Smith Group, or was it my duty to work late into the night for the
company? If you think those are my duties, then you are absolutely wrong. There is no such thing as
âdutyâ for me, only things I want to do or not.â
Just as Louis was about to speak, Rachel suddenly raised her hand and fiercely threw the prepared
resignation letter at Louisâs face, saying, âIâm calling it quits. The Smith Group is too small a company
for someone who is as important as me. Youâd better find someone else to do it.â
Upon hearing this, the dissatisfaction on everyoneâs face vanished instantly. One after another, the
people in the conference room stood up to persuade Rachel to stay.
Louis looked at the resignation letter that Rachel had thrown in his For the first time, he felt a sense of
panic.
The only reason he dared to hurt Rachel without restraint was that he relied on her feelings for him.
He knew that no matter what happened, Rachel would never leave him.
But now Rachel left him with a wave of her hand, leaving him caught off guard.
Louisâs fingertips suddenly tightened, gripping the resignation letter tightly.
