Chapter 39
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
David looked up and glanced at him indifferently.
Eddie immediately understood. âIâll get to it right now.â
Ten minutes later, Eddie entered the conference room with a gloomy expression on his face. A cold
breeze blew in, causing the temperature in the conference room to plunge to zero.
It seemed that someone ignorant had angered David again.
Eddie sorted out his feelings before eagerly walking toward David and handing him the electronic
tablet. âSir, take a look at this.â
David took the tablet, only to see the scene of Rachel entering the Smith Group.
Staring at the womanâs slender body, David asked with an austere gaze, âWas her resignation
successful?â
âYeah,â Eddie said, not daring to hide any details of Rachelâs resignation. He gave a clear explanation
of everything to David. However, toward the end, he began stuttering a little.
David frowned and glared daggers at Eddie.
Eddie cleared his throat and said carefully, âWe couldnât find any traces of where Miss Grey went. After
she left the Smith Group, the surveillance cameras within the vicinity all malfunctioned.â
That could only mean that someone had deliberately hidden the details of where Rachel went.
Sure enough, as soon as he finished speaking, there seemed to be a massive snowstorm in the
conference room.
With a sullen gaze in his eyes and his lips pressed tightly together, David exuded a terrifying sense of
oppression.
When he sensed the manâs austere aura, Eddie, who stood at the side, couldnât help but have a layer
of tiny sweat droplets break out on his forehead.
He knew that David was really exasperated.
After hesitating and dillyâdallying for a moment, he carefully said, âMr.
Jones, Iâve already sent people to check on this. I believe weâll have an outcome soon.â
âHow soon is soon?â the man asked in a slow and deep voice that would make one shudder.
Eddie trembled with a feeling of dismay, thinking that he was definitely going to get criticized for his
inefficiency.
Just as he was about to speak to make up for it, David suddenly stood up and said, âThe meeting shall
end here.â
After saying that, he strode away and left the conference room. His legs were long and slender.
Eddie frantically packed up the things on the table and chased after David. At the same time, he called
his friend and urged him to speed up the investigation.
By the time he reached the office, he had received the information. After skimming through the content
quickly, Eddieâs gaze became complicated.
The moment he entered the office, he didnât dare to delay and hurriedly handed his mobile phone to
David. âMr. Jones, please take a look.â
While looking through the information, Davidâs stern face eased a little, and his menacing aura faded
too.
There even seemed to be a faint smile on his lips. He muttered softly, âSo itâs the Johnson familyâ¦â
âMr. Jones, do we continue investigating further?â
After that experience just now, Eddie didnât dare to relax when it came to Rachel.
In fact, he even secretly made up his mind to inform David immediately whenever there was new
information about Rachel.
Eddie stood still for a long time, but David still had not reacted.
Eddie looked over in puzzlement, only to see clearly Davidâs every move in the reflection of the floorâ
toâceiling glass window, which seemed to be a mirror.
The man had his back facing Eddie and was sending a text message with his head hung low. Eddie
couldnât help but smirk.
Since he got Rachelâs number, David had never chatted with her properly. The last message in their
chat was of Rachel suggesting they visit Old Mrs. Jones.
David tapped his long and slender fingers against the keyboard. [What are you doing?]
Before sending it, he hesitated and decided not to do so as he thought that he might be prying into her
privacy by asking that.
He frowned and quickly edited the text message. He retyped, [Have you eaten?]
However, he thought it wasnât a good idea either because it sounded corny and insincere.
After editing the message for a long time, David eventually sent a rose emoji without any words.
