Chapter 484
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
hapter 484
After Marina left, the tense atmosphere eased a little.
Sam Turner, the head of the Chamber of Commerce, called for someone to clean
up the broken pieces on the ground and replace Rachel and Davidâs cutlery.
As the both of them sat down, they exchanged a look for just a second before averting their eyes
simultaneously.
Davidâs eyes could not help but darken a little as his gaze swept over Jimmy. Then, he turned to look at
the others. âEveryone, please be at ease and go on as usual.â
âMr. Jones, you had declined our invitation in the past. Itâs an honor that you could come today.â Kyle
Green held up his wine glass, the first to speak to warm up the atmosphere.
Seated next to Kyle, Mary rolled her eyes like she was disgusted.
After all, they were one of the four wealthiest families in Seaxas. The way he was fawning over
someone else was really embarrassing.
âMr. Green, youâre too kind.â David looked up at Kyle. âI was busier the past few years and didnât have
time. I hope I didnât disturb everyone with my sudden appearance.â
Whether it was his elegance or the way he spoke, not many wealthy young men could match up to
David.
In particular, Davidâs refined facial features made all the young socialites present look at him shyly.
As time slowly ticked by, everyoneâs stomachs were almost full, but no one left early.
The reason was that Davidâs aura was too strong from where he was seated at the head of the table.
No one dared to act out of turn.
But Lucas was different.
He was the first to stand, raising his chin at Rachel. âRae-Rae, letâs go!â
Rachel pursed her lips and did not answer. She glanced at David seated at the head of the table, her
eyes holding a hint of reluctance.
However, it was not appropriate to get too close to David now. It was not the time for romance.
She took a deep breath and got up to leave with Lucas.
David raised his eyes slightly, stroking his finger against his wine glass as his thin lips curled up slightly.
âMiss Grey, please wait.â
His deep voice was cold as usual, making it impossible for anyone to hear any emotion in it.
However, the short sentence made Rachelâs heart skip a beat.
The young socialites present had been trying to get close to David. As they heard David initiate contact
with Rachel, their expressions changed rapidly.
At that moment, if envy and jealousy could materialize, Rachel would have been riddled with holes
under the glares of the other young socialites.
Rachel glanced toward David and smiled calmly. âHow can I help you, Mr. Jones?â
Davidâs wrist moved slightly, his thin lips curling up into a faint smile. âNo help necessary. I just heard
that the scenery around here is lovely. I hoped Miss Grey would be able to show me around. How
about it?â
His cold voice was slightly deep, naturally putting distance between himself and others, but it also
strangely warmed peopleâs hearts slowly.
âMr. Jones, Iâm afraid thatâs not appropriate!â A delicate voice suddenly spoke up.
As everyone heard this, they turned to look at Hannah Shain.
Hannah quietly gritted her teeth, trying her best to ignore everyoneâs gazes. Sincerely, she spoke, âTo
be honest, Miss Grey is fresh off the boat. Iâm afraid she wonât be familiar with this area. I know of a hot
spring in the back mountain. Itâs said to have healing effects. Mr. Jones, if you donât mind, why donât I
bring youâ¦â
At this point, her face turned red, almost like a shy flower waiting to bloom.
