Chapter 513
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 513
âYouâve always said that this marriage is not suitable for me. Youâve repeatedly asked me to break off
the engagement, but you owe me an explanation on this.â Rachel had always felt that Arthur was
particularly against her and Davidâs marriage.
Since he was so against it, why didnât he stop her mother from getting engaged back then?
Arthur became very enraged and bitter after seeing Rachelâs obstinacy.
If it was Lucas, Arthur would have beaten him to death if he was like this! He rubbed the watch in his
hand in frustration. After pondering for a long time, he spoke again. âLetâs put other matters aside first.
Once your relationship with David is exposed, those who are enemies with David will start to target
you! Itâs easy to fend off an open attack, but you can never avoid an unexpected attack. Can you
guarantee that you are able to come out unscathed?
âPerhaps David can protect you for a while, but there will be times when he is careless. If that happens,
it will be too late for regrets!â
As one basked in the glory of unrivaled honor and the adoration of the masses, the inevitable tide of
opposition would soon follow suit.
The existence of Rachel was precisely the bargaining chip these people would use to threaten David.
Once Davidâs enemies found out about Rachelâs existence, they would definitely do everything they
could to get their hands on Rachel.
However, Rachel had already thought of what Arthur said.
She had also convinced herself to let go, to attempt to settle for the mundane existence of a regular
person, and to find contentment in that.
Yet it was her own selfishness that led her to take the risk.
Sheâd given him her everything in the hopes that heâd settle down and spend the rest of his life with her.
Rachel rubbed the edge of the cup with her fingertips and said, âBut I might not be his weakness.â
David might not be able to keep harm at bay for her at all times, but she would never allow herself to be
dominated.
She did not need David or the Johnson family as her support. She was the most trustworthy of all.
As Arthur saw Rachelâs intransigence, he felt nothing but frustration.
He sighed deeply. âForget it, forget it! I canât change your decision. I really hope that you can keep your
cool and not do anything irrational when you have to deal with this situation.â
âGot it, grandpa,â Rachel replied.
After leaving Arthurâs room, Rachel returned to her room.
She entered the room and saw Lucas sitting on the sofa.
âCome here and sign this,â Lucas handed a document to Rachel.
Rachel took it and asked casually, âWhat is it?â
Lucas lit a cigarette and answered, âThe shares of my company.â
His tone was too slack and careless to suggest he was talking about anything of significance. Rather, it
seemed like he was inquiring as to whether or not she had
eaten.
âWhy did you give me this for no reason?â Rachel stared at him with a raised brow. The transfer letter
was tossed on the table before she turned and headed to her room. âAre you feeling uneasy because
youâve accepted Davidâs privileges behind my back?â
âWhat do you mean by feeling uneasy? Itâs as if Iâve done something wrong to you,â Lucas muttered.
He admitted that he was indeed tempted by David this time.
However, what else could he do? After all, the other party had offered the entire research and
development team.
If David had been slightly stingy, Lucas wouldnât have pulled such a move for the sake of the money
and lost the Johnson familyâs face.
Rachel walked to him with the first aid kit in her hand, demanding, âTake off your shirt.â
âItâs just a small injuryâ¦â
âTake it off,â Rachel interrupted him coldly.
Lucas was most afraid of Rachelâs cold expression. Putting down the wine glass, he dutifully removed
his shirt as instructed.
His back was covered with what looked like vicious scars, and his flesh and skin seemed like being
ripped apart.
This time, Arthur was especially brutal.
