Chapter 543
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 543
Rachel seemed to have sensed that something was amiss, and she tightened her grip on Davidâs hand
subconsciously. Trying to divert Davidâs attention on purpose, Rachel asked, âWhat do you want to
eat?â
âIâm not picky.â David replied.
Knowing that Rachelâs feet were injured and it was difficult for her to move around, David slowed down
his pace on purpose as he tried to accommodate Rachel.
Rachel thought for a moment and suggested, âHow about soup and a main course with sides?â
With raised eyebrows, there was a glint of happiness that flashed in Davidâs eyes as he looked at
Rachel meaningfully and said, âYou seem to know quite a lot.â
âMy maternal grandfather had never had any restrictions to the things that I wanted to do, and he had
never requested me to do anything either. As long as itâs something that I wanted to do, he would let
me do it.â Rachel said unhurriedly. âIn addition, when I was in middle school, I did not know what was
critical to learn. and what wasnât. In the end, I learned a lot from Darcy in private.â
As they spoke, the two of them arrived at the stairs.
David bent down and carried Rachel in his arms. David asked casually, âDoes that include
equestrianism too?â
Rachel nodded.
Of course, for all these years with Darcy by her side, Rachel knew more than just equestrianism.
Entering the kitchen, David rolled up his sleeves and asked, âDo you need my help?â
Shaking her head, Rachel pushed David out of the open kitchen area slowly and declared with
confidence, âLeave it to me.â
With quickened steps, Billy hurried into the house. A hint of surprise flashed in Billyâs eyes and he was
taken aback when he saw Rachel in the kitchen.
Quickly after, Billy regained his composure and greeted respectfully, âMiss Grey.â
Rachel acknowledged with a light nod and continued with her work on the salmon in her hand.
Rachelâs technique was adept. In a few simple strokes, Rachel separated the fish fillet from the bones
perfectly.
Billy was almost dumbfounded when he saw Rachelâs cooking skills. However, Billy suddenly recalled
that he had something important to report to David, and
could not afford to be delayed even for a second. With quickened steps, Billy hurriedly made his way
toward the study.
However, before Billy left, he could not help but turned his head to take a last glance at Rachel.
At this moment, David was reading a document in a file with his head lowered. When David heard
footsteps coming from the door, he slowly lifted his head.
A piercing sharp gaze was coming from Davidâs dark eyes. Billy felt as if there was an invisible hand
that was wrapped around his throat, and the tension in the room made him feel as if he was
suffocating.
Billy adjusted his breathing slightly and said respectfully, âMr. Jones, there have been many unfamiliar
faces seen around Seaxas recently.â
âWhatâs their background?â David closed the file in front of him and asked. Leaning backward, David
crossed his legs elegantly, although his gaze was still cold.
âSome of them were sent by Hell, and they seemed to be looking for someone. As for some of themâ¦â
A dark glint flashed across Billyâs eyes as he replied. Pausing for a moment, Billy continued, âTheyâre
from the Elders.â
Actually, Billy was not surprised that the Elders would send people to Seaxas.
After all, the fact that Mr. Jones had stayed in Seaxas because of a woman was bound to be exposed
sooner or later.
Over the years, the people from the Elders have been trying to force Mr. Jones into an arranged
marriage so that they would be able to restrict Mr. Jonesâs authority and even, disperse it.
Now that the people from the Elders knew about Rachelâs existence, they would definitely not let the
matter rest.
Hearing this, Davidâs face suddenly darkened. The maliciousness that was present in Davidâs eyes
made his gaze seem icy cold. If one were to look into Davidâs eyes, one would feel that he had the
power to destroy everything.
Billy, who was standing opposite David, felt his heart tighten. In his heart, Billy was breaking out into a
cold sweat and pitied the people from the Elders.
In the next second, Davidâs deep and cold voice slowly sounded in the quiet study. âSince they donât
know how to behave themselves, then we should teach them. well!â
Davidâs tone was one of indifference and he spoke slowly without showing any emotions. However, the
words from Davidâs casual tone were filled with arrogance and made one shudder.
With eyes filled with shock, Billy replied, âAlright.â
Just as Billy was about to turn around and leave, Davidâs voice sounded again. âYou will personally
lead a team and protect Rachel in secret.â
Billy was stunned for a few seconds before he quickly caught himself and replied, âYes.â
It was not that Billy was making a fuss.
Itâs just that in the past, Billy had always been in charge of Davidâs safety and security. It would not be
an exaggeration if one was to say that Billy was Davidâs personal bodyguard.
But now, Billy was tasked to protect Rachel. From Davidâs instructions, Billy could tell that Mr. Jones
treated Miss Grey differently from the others.
