Chapter 667
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 667
As Rachel casually leaned on Davidâs shoulder, her nonchalant demeanor suggested she wasnât
concerned about the three heavy-duty SUVs at all.
Yann. persistent as ever, inquired, âMiss Grey, feel free to cry out if youâre scaredâ¦â
âWhy donât you give me a demonstration first?â Rachel teasingly raised an eyebrow, giving him at
playful smile.
Yann was speechless.
âThese vehicles have merely been upgraded for speed after modifications; theyâre not as ferocious as
they appear, Rachel remarked indifferently. âIf you lose your cool now, wouldnât I have a legitimate
reason to question your capabilities?â
From the passenger seat, Billy nearly burst into applause!
This was the woman his boss had taken a liking to. Even in moments like these, she managed to
remain incredibly level-headed.
Yann was somewhat persistent but lost his previous mischievous intent, asking genuinely, âMiss Grey,
are you well-versed in modified cars?â
âJust a random interest during my downtime,â she replied nonchalantly.
In the midst of their conversation, one of the SUVs suddenly accelerated, cutting the convoy in half.
Another car, seemingly out of control, charged toward the one carrying David and Rachel.
The intense collision caused the passengers to lose their balance.
Instinctively, David pulled Rachel into his arms for protection.
âMr. Jones, Miss Grey, hold on tight!â Yann exclaimed, aggressively turning the steering wheel. As the
SUV hit once more, he managed to swing the rear end out of the way.
Simultaneously, the car trailing behind kept pace. Both vehicles worked in tandem, forcing the
aggressive SUV to flip over onto the ground.
Yann did not ease up, continuing to press hard on the gas pedal, pushing the car a few yards forward.
until it finally collided head-on with the massive boulders.
At this moment, the car came to a stop and the convoy halted in an orderly fashion. The doors opened
simultaneously, and the well-trained bodyguards in black exited the vehicles, forming at circle around
the three SUVs.
Yann and Billy unbuckled their seatbelts and stepped out of the car together to assess the situation.
Inside the car, Davidâs arm was wrapped tightly around Rachelâs waist, while his other arm rested on
the door frame, appearing both languid and casual.
He gazed down at Rachel in his arms.
Their eyes met unexpectedly.
David slightly raised his eyebrows, a faint smile playing on his lips. âAre you scared now?â
âYes,â Rachel said, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she nestled her head into his arms and feigned
a frightened voice. âIâm really terrified.â
David played along, comforting her, âDonât be afraid. Iâm here.â
At this moment, Billy and Yann returned to the front of the car and knocked on the glass window.
David slowly rolled down the window, and Billy reported, âSir, thereâs no one in the car.â
Hearing this, Davidâs face remained expressionless, impossible to discern his emotions.
He glanced indifferently at the overturned off-road vehicle. Leave a large group of people to handle the
scene. The rest can returnâ
Yann furrowed his brow, clearly wanting to speak up, but upon noticing Rachel in the car, he swallowed
his words.
The group readied themselves and headed towards Peckham Palace once more.
However, this time, Yann was noticeably less lively than before, preoccupied and nearly colliding with
other vehicles. Thankfully, Billy quickly grabbed the steering wheel.
Sweating nervously, Billy glanced at David and Rachel in the backseat and scolded in a low voice,
âWhat the hell are you thinking!
Yann snapped back to reality, glancing at David and Rachel in the backseat through the rearview
mirror.
He pursed his lips, ultimately unable to resist asking, âSir, aside from the old residence, who else
knows about your return to Aureliana?â
Yann had always been careful to keep Davidâs whereabouts a secret, as there were far too many
people lurking in the shadows, watching their every move.
The three cars that suddenly appeared clearly came prepared.
David heard Yannâs question and lifted his indifferent gaze.
He didnât say anything, but his eyes pierced straight into Yannâs soul like a sharp knife.
Yann shuddered and quickly explained, âL.. I just feel that this situation is too strange. Those three cars
clearly came prepared. They calculated the time we left the old residence and deliberately ambushed
us on our only route. Moreover, there was no one in those three carsâ¦â
That was the strangest part.
They had brought people to surround the vehicles, yet found them empty..
Furthermore, no human traces had been left behind.
At this moment, Rachel, who was lazily leaning on Davidâs shoulder, chuckled. âAutonomous driving
technology.â
Yannâs brows furrowed with annoyance.
He thought that Miss Grey was utterly lacking in perception, causing trouble at such an inopportune.
time!
David tenderly held Rachelâs delicate hand in his, his fingers gently caressing the protruding bones. on
the back of her hand. He looked deeply into Rachelâs eyes, the corners of his mouth curving into a
faint, yet affectionate smile, before asking with genuine curiosity, âDid you find anything?â
Rachel took a deep breath. âThatâs an assembled car. It shouldnât be surprising to have autonomous
driving technology.â
âWhat else?â David asked in a doting tone.
Rachel raised her eyebrows and glanced at him. âAside from the exterior, the rest of that car is custom-
built. I bet you wonât be able to track down the owner at all.â
Upon hearing this, a contemptuous smile flashed across Yann. âMiss Grey, you might not be aware, but
even a custom-built car leaves traces. The frame and the engine each have unique codes. As long as
we follow those codes, we wonât come up empty-handed.â
âReally?â Rachel looked at Yann with an enigmatic smile.
The smile on her face was non-threatening, but it revealed an undeniable edge.
Yann telt a lump in hus throat. The words he wanted to say lodged there.
Just then. Yannyâs phone rang
Instinctively, he picked up the call and spoke with a hint of unidentifiable irritation, âWhat is it!â
The person on the other end of the phone happened to be the bodyguard who had stayed at the
Tjunction to deal with the accident.
The bodyguard quickly reported everything.
The words fell upon Yannâs ears, and he abruptly slammed the brakes, halting the car.
Yannâs eyes grew wider with each passing moment, staring at Rachel in absolute terror.
It wasnât until the phone call ended that he began to regain his composure, his gaze fixated on Rachel.
his voice strained and h o ar se. âYou⦠Could you be the mastermind behind all this?â
Before he could finish his sentence, Billy, seated in the passengerâs side, smacked him on the back of
the head. âWhat kind of nonsense are you spouting!â
Was this kid tired of living?
How dare he accuse Miss Grey in front of Mr. Jones!
Why was he in such a hurry to impress the King of Hell?
Yann belatedly realized his mistake, blurting out his suspicions, and found himself at a loss,
overwhelmed by embarrassment.
