Chapter 700
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 700
The news was so sudden that when Rachel heard it, she froze.
âWhy so sudden?â
From the other side of the line, Vulture pressed his lips together and briefly summarized the call heâd
had with Lone Wolf earlier. âThereâs some unrest at the border. We need to go over and control the
situation urgently.â
When Vulture finished, he added, âBy the way, Lone Wolf asked me to ask you something. Do you
have family in Aureliana?â
âWhy do you ask?â Rachel frowned slightly, a hint of contemplation flashing in her eyes.
âMaybe Lone Wolf got the wrong information.â Since there was an emergent situation, Vulture didnât
explain much but repeatedly reminded Rachel, âThe Jones familyâs situation is complicated. You have
to be careful.â
âGot it.â
After hanging up the phone, Rachel frowned slightly, her eyes filled with contemplation.
Why did they say that she had family in Aureliana?
For some reason, what Mr. Davies had said about her looking like a friend of his resounded again in
Rachelâs mind.
Could this so-called family be the friend that Mr. Davies had mentioned?
Just as she was feeling baffled, David approached Rachel, bringing with him a crisp woody fragrance.
David reached out his finger and tucked Rachelâs hair behind her ear. âWhat are you thinking about?â
Rachel looked up and suddenly met Davidâs deep black eyes.
Rachel pursed her lips. âNothing. Vulture called just now and said that something urgent came up and
he had to leave early.â
âSo urgently?â David asked.
Rachel responded affirmatively as she looked at David, her lips moving slightly.
âYou want to send him off?â David watched as Rachel lowered her eyes and figured out what she was
thinking. David placed his palm on the top of her head and caressed it gently and lovingly. âGo.â
âGo where?â Rachel looked up at him.
Perhaps it was because of the tacit understanding that they had developed after interacting with each
other for so long but the moment their eyes met, Rachel immediately understood what David was
saying.
âThen youâ¦â

Before Rachel could finish her sentence, the butlerâs voice came from behind them. âMr. David!â
Rachel turned and saw the butler who was hurrying towards them. The butler nodded slightly at Rachel
and said, âMr. David, Mr. Jones, the heads of the other branches, and the Elders have been waiting in
the meeting hall for a long time.â
The banquet prepared by Old Mr. Jones was coined a family banquet, but it was actually a family
meeting before the cabinet meeting.
As the head of the family, David naturally could not leave.
Moreover, now that the Elders were here, it was all the more reason David couldnât leave.
The Elders had already picked up on the fact that David had dealt with the nine branches in a swift and
decisive manner a few days ago. If David left at this juncture, the Elders would probably be dissatisfied
and take the opportunity to get a hold of his weaknesses.
Rachel tugged at the corner of Davidâs shirt. âQuickly go. Donât worry about me. Chris will accompany
me.â
Rachel wasnât officially married to David yet so strictly speaking, she wasnât considered part of the
Jones family.
As such, it didnât matter if Rachel participated in this so-called family banquet.
Just as Vulture had said, as the only female around David, Rachel was like a walking target.
In that case, regardless of whether Rachel wanted to see those people or not, they would always find a
way and reason to see her.
David pursed his thin lips.
The butler sized up the expression on Davidâs face and spoke at just the right moment, âMr. David,
since Miss Grey has to leave, why donât I arrange for her to take Mr. Jonesâ car? No one will dare to
crash into Mr. Jonesâ cars.â
âNo need,â Rachel said. âA car is a car.â
Rachel figured that based on the Jones familyâs status inâ Aureliana, no one would carelessly crash into
a car leaving the Jones familyâs estate.
David waved his hand to dismiss the butler, taking Rachelâs hand and walking towards the old
residenceâs exit.
When he reached the door, David was still holding Rachelâs hand tightly. David turned to look at Yann
and Billy behind him. âYou guys escort her personally.â
In unison, they both cried, âYes, sir!â
After Rachel had said goodbye to David, she leaned forward and
climbed into the car.
Rachel lowered the window and waved at David before the car was started and they left.
âIs this the legendary loyal husband who watches his wife until he turns to stone?â Yann glanced at
David, who was still standing by the door, through the rearview mirror.
When Rachel heard this, she turned around and looked behind her.
David was still standing at the exit where theyâd said goodbye and even though they were far away
from each other now, Rachel could clearly sense his worried expression.
Rachel pursed her lips helplessly and sighed softly.
Ever since Rachel came to Aureliana, she could feel that David was in a highly tense state, as if
something bad would happen to her at any time.
As the car slowly moved out of sight, David turned around with a cold expression and walked into the
old residence, heading straight for the meeting hall.
On the other side, Vulture and Blackhawk quickly packed their things and prepared to leave.
However, since they had received Rachelâs call, they deliberately waited for a while.
A blade of grass stuck out from the corner of Blackhawkâs mouth as he looked out at the gradually
sinking sun in the distance. Blackhawk couldnât help but mutter, âTo be honest, before I saw Twelve, it
didnât bother me. After seeing her, I suddenly donât want to leave.â
Blackhawk couldnât help but miss those days when they had gone through tough times together.
âSince we know where she is, she wonât be able to run away from
us.â Vulture glanced at the time on his phone. âWith Lone Wolfâs navigation system, Iâll be able to find
her even if she runs to the ends of the earth.â
As he spoke, a message from Lone Wolf popped up.
Vulture clicked on the picture.
The picture was a blurry side profile and although it was blurry, one could tell from the facial outline that
it was Rachel.
No!
To be precise, it was someone who looked a lot like Rachel.
âWho is this woman?â Vulture muttered thoughtfully.
âLet me see.â Blackhawk spat out the grass in his mouth and took the phone to have a look. âIsnât this
Twelve?â
The moment the words were out of his mouth, Blackhawk added, âLooking closely, it doesnât seem like
it either. Who is this woman?â
âHow am I supposed to know?â Vulture rolled his eyes at Blackhawk, figuring they would know more
once Rachel arrived.
Vulture looked down at the time. It was now the time that he and Rachel had agreed upon, but there
was no sign of her. Vulture frowned slightly. âShe should be back by now.â
âLetâs wait a little longer. Women have so many things to do before they leave,â Blackhawk said.
However, after 20 minutes, Rachel was still nowhere to be seen.
Vulture had a bad feeling about this.
Twelve had always delivered what she promised. She would never promise anything she could not do.
Since Rachel had said that she would send Vulture and Blackhawk off, she would definitely be here.
Could it be that she was in trouble?
With that in mind, Vulture took out his phone and dialed Rachelâs number.
A mechanical voice came from the other end of the line. âIâm sorry, the number youâve dialed is
temporarily unavailableâ¦â
