Chapter 747
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 747
Rachel turned around and picked up her phone. The corners of her lips curled up involuntarily when
she saw Davidâs message.
She looked at Davidâs profile picture in a daze.
She remembered that Davidâs original profile picture on WhatsApp was pitch-black, with nothing able to
be seen.
However, a small dot of light appeared in the darkness at some point.
Although the speck of light was small and unremarkable, it was the most attention-grabbing thing in the
darkness.
At this moment, her phone vibrated again.
It was a message from Mary Green.
The smile on Rachelâs lips faded a little when she saw the short blessing Mary sent, but she replied to
her accordingly.
Then, she opened her chat with David and slowly typed a reply.
David called as soon as she sent out the message.
âWhy arenât you asleep yet?â The manâs deep and magnetic voice slowly traveled from the phone to
Rachelâs ears.
The manâs voice was low and magnetic, making Rachelâs ears itch.
She raised her hand to dig her ears and turned over to lie on the bed. âArenât you the same, being
awake this late?â
There was a hint of fatigue in her voice.
âI was missing you,â David suddenly said.
Rachel was stunned for a moment, and the smile on her lips grew
wider. âMe too.â
Previously, she had not felt bored of David when they were stuck
together all day in Aureliana. Instead, spending time together became a
habit.
Because of this, she felt off staying with the Johnson family tonight.
David, who was sitting in his car, heard her words and a faint smile appeared in the depths of his eyes.
He turned to look out of the window. âWhy didnât you come to see me if you miss me?â
âLadies have to be reserved sometimesâ¦â
Before Rachel could finish her sentence, she heard David say, âItâs so
cold outside Johnsonâs Mansion.â
Rachel immediately got up from the bed when she heard that.
She ran barefoot to the window, but she realized that the bedroom was
miles away from the manorâs door. She could not see anything at all.
âWait for me.â Rachel hung up the phone and ran into her walk-in wardrobe to change before leaving in
a hurry.
She deliberately slowed down when she passed by Old Mr. Johnsonâs study. She tiptoed like a cat that
had just done something bad behind
its masterâs back.
Rachel only heaved a deep sigh of relief when she reached the bottom of the stairs.
She thought that she would be unnoticed. However, little did she know, Old Mr. Johnson had expected
all of this.
He had expected this outcome from the moment he learned that David had appeared outside
Johnsonâs Mansion.
Old Mr. Johnson looked at the game of chess in front of him. Then, he carefully placed a chess piece
down. âLook, isnât this beyond your expectations?â
Hearing this, Tom, who was sitting opposite him, frowned slightly.
The chessboard was a battle of black and white chess pieces. The game state was still unpredictable,
but there were already signs of who was going to win.
The black pieces were in a good situation. They could extinguish any chance of the white kingâs
survival with one move.
However, Old Mr. Johnson let go of the opportunity to take the white king.
There was a complicated flicker in Tomâs eyes. His expression was dark as he looked up deeply at Old
Mr. Johnson. He said meaningfully, âFather, youâre soft-hearted after all.â
âThis game of chess has already been decided. It has long exceeded our control.â Old Mr. Johnson
slowly stood up and walked to the window. He looked at the night scene outside the window. âPerhaps
it has been predetermined by fate. All our hard work over the years has
been in vain.â
Tom stood up and walked to Old Mr. Johnsonâs side when he heard this. âFather, the outcome has yet
to be determined. Anything is possible. Itâs still too early to conclude.â
âAlthough we have both interfered in this game, the outcome of this. game is no longer up to us to
decide.â Old Mr. Johnson frowned slightly. His deep voice was low and hoarse. âMoreover, weâve
already become pawns in the game. How can we control its outcome?â
âSo youâre giving up, Father?â Tom looked at Old Mr. Johnson with a sharp glint in his eyes.
Old Mr. Johnson stared at him for a moment and sighed softly. âHow could I bear to?â
Otherwise, he would not have let go of the last chance to strangle the white king just now.
âIt would be best if this situation can be settled. Otherwiseâ¦â Tom
paused for a moment, and a sharp cold light shone in the depths of his eyes. âThen, we will turn this
situation around!â
At most, he would fight to the death. In short, he could not watch helplessly as Rachel went all the way.
Seeing how persistent his eldest son was, Old Mr. Johnsonâs eyes revealed a gratified smile.
To be honest, all these years, he had been worried that Rachel would suffer and not have any
protection after he died.
He finally felt more at ease now that he saw Tomâs attitude.
He took a deep breath and did not speak. He just looked into the distance.
Rachel walked out of Johnsonâs Mansion and immediately saw David standing under the street lamp.
The man was wearing a black suit. The warm light shone on him, warming up his sharp and terrifying
aura.
His exquisite and well-defined facial features looked even deeper half-submerged in light.
He had one hand in his pocket and was making a call with his back facing Rachel.
Sensing that a figure had suddenly appeared around him, the corners of his lips could not help but curl
into a faint smile.
He turned around and saw Rachel. A cold glint flashed across his eyes. He immediately had a gentle
smile in his eyes.
âIâll hang up first.â
After saying that, he hung up the phone and extended his hand toward Rachel.
Rachel quickly walked over and placed her hand in his palm.
The next second, David tightened his grip and pulled her into his arms.
Rachel leaned in his arms and greedily sniffed the unique woody fragrance on his body. She could not
help but smile. âWhen did you come over?â
âWhen I sent you the first message.â David lifted Racheâs chin with his well-defined fingers, leaned
over, and pecked her lips. âDo you want to get supper?â
âWhat are we eating?â
âHow about barbeque?â
âSure.â
It was late at night in midsummer. It was a good time for barbeque.
At the food stall.
The late night did not affect peopleâs enthusiasm for barbeque. The boss was busy.
However, the people at the stall would occasionally look at the group of people at the table in the
corner.
The aura of the person sitting at the table was really unique.
The man sat on the stool in a suit and leather shoes. Not only did he
not look out of place, but he also had an intimidating aura. People did not dare to offend him easily.
Although the woman was dressed simply, she also looked extremely eye-catching. Every move she
made exuded a noble aura that could not be ignored.
It was obvious that she was some daughter from a rich family who had come out to experience what
the masses ate.
âWhere did this big shot come from? Why havenât I seen him before?â
âAs expected, birds of the same feather flock together. Good-looking people will only hang out with
other good-looking people.â
âOh Lord, there are so many rich and beautiful people in the world. Why canât I be one of them?â
âIf Iâm not wrong, the watch on that manâs wrist is worth more than 200,000 dollars!â
âNo wonder heâs so eye-catching. It turns out that heâs filthy rich!â
