Chapter 748
Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David)
Chapter 748
The men sitting on the stools felt a little aggrieved and even looked a little comical.
âAre we just going to sit here and eat? Arenât we going to have some beer?â Jimmy looked at the coffee
and milk on the table and could not help but twitch his lips.
Mary took a bottle of milk and twisted the lid open. âWho said we have to have a beer with barbeque?â
David did not say anything. He chose a cup of warm milk among the drinks.
âDo you have a problem?â Rachel raised her eyebrows and glanced at Jimmy.
Jimmy immediately corrected himself. âAlright, alright, of course.â
âCome, since you canât keep your mouth shut, why donât you do some work?â Landon said as he
handed the skewers that the boss had just served to Jimmy.
Jimmy rolled up his sleeves and roasted a skewer over the small furnace.
âDavid, we wonât be leaving anytime soon, right?â Jimmy handed the pork skewers to Mary and
gestured for her to try them.
Mary was stunned for a moment and quickly reached out to take it.
âYeah,â David replied indifferently. He handed Rachel the bottle of coffee that he had placed a straw
into. âWhatâs the matter?â
âArenât we targeting the plots of land around South Valley?â Jimmy asked calmly.
Hearing this, a dark look flashed across Rachelâs eyes.
However, there was no expression on her face. She just continued with her food.
South Valley had always been the Smith familyâs market. Moreover, the
Smith familyâs latest bid was also at South Valley. Wouldnât Jimmy
interfering with South Valley at this time make them the obvious bad guys?
David raised his eyes and looked at him meaningfully. âAre you also planning to enter the Seaxas
market?â
Seaxas had been developing steadily over the years and had a stable economy. It was indeed a good
place to build a business.
âThat would depend on whether the richest family in Seaxas, the Johnson family, is willing to let us in.â
Jimmy was still smiling cheekily, but his gaze was clear. âBesides, Iâm the only person represented by
the business this time. Thereâs no other meaning to it.â
In other words, not only would he not sway the Johnson familyâs position as the richest family in
Seaxas, but he would also support the Johnson family from behind.
Rachel lowered her gaze to hide the expression in her eyes.
The Johnson family had occupied the position of the richest family in Seaxas for many years, which
means that it was not something others could snatch from them overnight. However, the interference of
Aurelianaâs Shain family would definitely affect the Johnson family.
It was like how Marina had relied on the influence of the Jones family to fool others into taking sides
and how she had coveted the Johnson familyâs position as the richest family in Seaxas.
What Jimmy said just now was both a promise to David and a statement to Rachel.
The seemingly frivolous Jimmy was always able to see through the core of the matter at a glance and
immediately make a smart choice.
Though, that was natural. How could he, as the next head of the Shain family, be a playboy who only
knew how to indulge in pleasure?
âThe Smith family is already bidding for South Valleyâs land. Itâs very likely that they intend to use it for
their development in the future. Are you sure you want to snatch it from them?â Davidâs dark eyes were
like a bottomless
cold lake, making it difficult to see through his true thoughts. âReal estate investment is not a small
industry. Once the property is developed, it will definitely attract the attention of many parties.â
He was afraid that the other members of the Shain family would not let the matter rest and would take
the opportunity to fight for a piece of the pie when the time came.
âHow could a cultured person like me do such a thing?â Jimmy slowly folded a piece of bread and
dipped it in seasoning. Then, he picked up a skewer from the pit and placed the meat in the bread.
âNaturally, Iâll try to convince them, logically or otherwise.â
He placed the meat-filled bread he prepared on Maryâs plate and said unhurriedly, âWith the Smith
familyâs qualifications, they might not be able to fulfill their promise in a short period. Who knows what
kind of trouble will happen in the future? Anyone with a brain will know who to choose, right? The Smith
family has done so many unpresentable things before. Everyone remembers what they have done.
This time, someone has deliberately offered me the South Valley project. I have to show them the due
respect, right?
âAlso, Rachel will be able to freely enter South Valley in the future if I manage to develop the plot of
land. Isnât that equivalent to benefitting yourself?â
Hearing this, David did not say anything else. It was obvious that he agreed with what Jimmy said.
âThe Smith family is determined to get their hands on South Valley,â David said.
Rachel had begun to snatch the Smith familyâs developmental projects in the east of the city after she
left the Smith family.
The Smith family competing for South Valley this time was nothing more than them shifting their
development to the south.
Jimmy smiled. âWhat a coincidence. Me too.â
In the end, the better party would win.
Rachel did not say much and just listened quietly.
Who would have thought that a project worth millions of dollars would be negotiated in a roadside stall?
However, she wondered what would happen if the Smith family really lost the South Valley project this
time.
Mary looked at the dazed Rachel and kicked her with the tip of her foot. âDo you want to go to the
washroom?â
Rachel came back to her senses and nodded. âLetâs go.â
When the two of them got up and left, Jimmy stared at Rachelâs back and said thoughtfully, âI didnât
drink any alcohol today, but why do I feel that Rachel has become different from before?â
Landon kicked him. âStop talking!â
âLandon, lookâ¦â Jimmy turned around and met Davidâs calm gaze.
He felt a chill run from the back of his head down his spine and could not help but gasp.
He smiled awkwardly and said, âCome, come, come. Letâs eat.â
After dinner, the group parted ways at the barbeque stall.
Rachel leaned lazily on Davidâs shoulders and fell asleep after she got into the car.
âSleep well.â David wrapped his arms around her waist and lowered his head to kiss her forehead.
Rachel was really exhausted.
When she opened her eyes again, it was already nine in the morning.
After changing her clothes, she got up and went downstairs to eat.
She looked around but did not see David.
Mrs. Brownâs eyes hid a smile as she explained, âMr. Jones went out this
morning because he had something on. He specially instructed us not to wake you up.â
Rachel nodded and continued sipping her soup.
At this moment, a text message suddenly popped up on her phone.
Racheâs eyes flashed with cold hostility when she saw that the message was from Hans Grey.
The message basically said that today was her motherâs death anniversary and that he wanted to visit
her to pay his respects.
Rachelâs red lips curled into a mocking smile. She thought, âHe sure knows how to shed crocodile
tears.â
She quickly ate, tidied up, and left the house.
âI have a private matter to attend to. You donât have to follow me.â Rachel glanced at Chris before
bending over and getting into the car.
Chris hesitated for a moment and finally decided to follow her from afar.
